[Rumor] Russell Westbrook Expected To Sign With The Sacramento Kings

Exactly, these reports could all just be smoke from agents or teams looking to push an agenda, or media just looking for something to talk about. Or they could be pieces the Kings use to upgrade the forward spot/frontcourt. Let’s wait and see what actually happens before coming to conclusions based on these reports.

It's starting to feel like all our eggs are in the Kuminga basket. And that we were confident we could balance the roster by trading out some of the guard glut, bring him in and have the room to immediately plug in Dennis as a starting PG and Russ backing him up.

Even then, we can't be done. Assuming some version of Monk+Carter goes out for Kuminga, then where do you put DDR? Because Kuminga certainly isn't signing here to come off the bench. Does that Heat rumor have any juice?

The biggest knock on him headed into the draft was shopping high schools, his dad coaching the AAU team, and Duke basically having to dumb down their system for him. He basically was the textbook coast on athleticism and physical tools until he ran up against his own peers and then couldn't compete.

How's his flow?

Didn’t bother listening was just amused that he came up on my stream and comments were filled with how we took him over Luka but he never addressed them haha

That could all be possible, but there could also be other deals out there that we haven’t heard about it.

I’m willing to roll with this. Kuminga is young with boat loads of potential, Russ is old but has more triple doubles than any player in nba history.
I reckon we need to do something, even Jerry Reynolds wasn’t convinced after summer league that Carter has the chops to be a starting lead guard. As far as DDR goes, it’s already been explained that if Kuminga is in he’s being moved to a good team, likely Miami for Rozier who has no future here and draft compensation.
Just get it done already so I can focus on something else.

I think if we get Kuminga in some sort of trade that we then move DDR for rozier and maybe. 2nd rounder and probably wave rozier. Losing Carter is like losing your favorite hangnail. Not much there. He is 6’2 and not a point guard. He is Quincy Douby 2.0

You may be right, I don’t know. I have only heard from some more knowledgeable than me, Jerry Reynolds for example, that he really didn’t impress that much in summer league. Also Monte, a flaming idiot drafted him so wouldn’t be surprised if Perry has little attachment.

Next we sign Jordan he has six championships

It seems pretty obvious that this roster has little room for Westbrook as it is currently constructed. Even if we accept the departure of TD and his unguaranteed contract as fait accompli and we call DDR a SF, there's still a ton of guard depth on the current roster, even if PG isn't exactly over-represented.

Schroder/Monk/Carter
LaVine/Ellis/Clifford

There's just not a lot of room for Russ in there. You can't just bump LaVine to the 3 to make some room because DDR is already camped out there.

So, for fun, let's look at the roster as I think it "really" stands in terms of "true" positions, with players that have to be in the rotation in CAPS, possible rotation players in lower case, and deep bench in gray:

SCHRODER
LAVINE/DEROZAN/MONK/ELLIS/CARTER/clifford/[davis]
[...]/mcdermott
MURRAY/jones/saric
SABONIS/raynaud/eubanks

If that's not imbalanced to the point that bringing in another combo guard is ludicrous, I don't know what is. Which is why we should step back and consider that maybe there are some moves (possibly the recently widely speculated moves, possibly something else) that would need to be made to balance this roster out before bringing in another combo guard. Maybe Monk or DDR or both are as good as gone with us getting some size back. Maybe this move is never going to happen. Maybe that one reporter doesn't know what he's talking about. Maybe it's all agent spin to get Russ a bigger deal elsewhere.

Look, Perry hasn't done much to convince me he's a good GM yet, but I'm not going to assume he's an absolute moron based on something that hasn't even happened.
I think all the players between Schroder and Sabonis are more or less interchangable depending on matchup. I look at the list of players in rotation, and I see 1 guard, 1 big, and 6 wings in the rotation. If I were trying to make this team competitive (and I am not advocating for that course of action) I would add a bench level guard, and a bench level big behind Domas, and then I'd call it a team.

True, but it's generally pretty difficult to get stuff done heading into August. Most teams are pretty well set and happy heading into training camp in a month and a half.

Now this off-season might be different with so many high profile RFA's still unsigned, so there's some potential to make some bigger moves. But IF we are insistent on bringing in Russ, we pretty much have to follow that up with massive team changes. That's going to be tough to pull off

If we add Russ, I’m having trouble seeing a realistic best case scenario at this point that doesn’t feel like a disappointment.

What is the best case scenario?

Best case scenario could be a playoff team that is entertaining.
He’d bring toughness, leadership and playmaking to a team that badly needs all of the above. I think he’d just be part of Perry’s vision to establish an identity.

Dennis|| Russ
LaVine|| Keon
Keegan || Nique
Kuminga || IJ
Domas || Raynaud

In a perfect world, we keep Carter, but any best case scenario is essentially bringing Kuminga on board and Monk and DDR head out in some capacity. And you move forward with a young core of:

Keegan
Kuminga
Keon
Nique
Raynaud
IJ

With your vets being
Dennis
Russ
LaVine
Domas

With all our picks intact, some draft capital heading our way for taking Rozier from Miami.

Short of this happening though, unless theres a secret deal in play, I dont see how Russ could bring any sort of a positive to a team that currently has 5 guards that need to play.

I actually like Westbrook, but do I want to add him at the expense Monk, Carter, or Keon? Not really.

If our roster situation was different I’d be all for it.

I meant more specifically regards to how the roster will shape up. I’ll be disappointed if Keon isn’t playing essentially starter-like minutes and I’ll be disappointed if we lose Monk when this is all said and done.

Would of course be a great scenario to be a playoff team that’s entertaining!
