Playoffs

I wouldn't be mad if we don't make the playoffs, that way we would add a lottery pick to our new core and have a whole training camp with everybody together plus whatever they will add. I just want them to play some exciting basketball for the rest of the season.

I personally would love to see us make the playoffs and actually see us shut down teams instead of the other way around, but realistically, it wll take the rest of the season and the summer for this team to really start gelling together. Next season i expect us to be in the top 4 teams in the west and possibly in the league.

unless you WIN the lottery, an upper level lottery pick is just a couple of places awayfrom a lower level playoff team pick, and your chances of winning the lottery from that position are mighty slim.

I just don't see the Kngs being absolute bottom of the barrel, so a mediocre just barely inthe playoffs kicks the heiney of mediocre just out of the playoffs- but pick two positions earlier.

That is true but there is always that chance we could get lucky and I would take that rather then getting swept by the Spurs.

I want us to make the playoffs. That would mean that (get this gem of wisdom:D ) we would WIN more games than we would lose for the rest of the season. Also, the more games we play together, the better next year will be. It will be great for the "kids" and SAR to get playoff experience for next year when we may actually have a shot of going deep. The more were play as a team, the better.

As others have said, unless we get one of the top 1-3 picks, there really isn't much difference from just getting in the lottery or just getting in the play-offs. I hoping for a quick turn around and 8th straight playoff berth!

I agree but if we don't make the playoffs it isn't the worse thing, because at least we have some sort plan for the future, well I felt before the trade we were going to slip away to obscurity ( or even worse Vegas.)

I'm working on my optimism ....

My gut tells me "Yes, there is hope" ... BUT:

We thought we had the talent before the season began .. REALITY CHECK

Peja is gone - Artest is the New Kid on the block .. REALITY CHECK

Bonzi could possibly put on a uniform next week - starter or bench .. REALITY CHECK

Rahim is not playing the same prior to his injury ... REALITY CHECK

Bibby's play is more consistent ... what's up with Brad .. REALITY CHECK

Team Chemisty then - Team Chemisty now ... REALITY CHECK

So .. playoffs ???

Yes - doable .... but, reality always steps in.

I've definitely got some NEW EXCITEMENT & ENERGY

My optimism lies in wait - hoping the King's get better "with each game"

I think we have a great shot at the playoffs. There's gonna be an adjustment period, but if we can all stay healthy (physically AND mentally), I'd say we have the inside track on teams like Utah and Minnesota. Can't wait for the game tomorrow night!!

You guys are going to make the playoffs now. Ron will get you there. You should be talking about what seed you will be and not if you make it.

PS: Just signed up because I like the Kings and love Ron Artests game. You guys have won the NBA lottery in my opinion. Look past his talk and watch his game. He brings an intensity you have never seen there. Brad knows and the rest of the players will learn. If they buy into what Ron can do the Kings are going to be contenders again.

I will miss Ron here in Pacer land. Warts and all. :(

Bibby has to be one of the best January players in the league. It seems like he has a super-human run about this point in the season every year, and grinds himself into the ground doing it

Welcome hoopsforlife. I'm a newbie on here as well. I really cannot wait to see Ron play and put up the #s he has and is capable of. Also I think that Artest will do Brad some good. Now if only we can get a rebounder and shot blocker in there as well as a bench PG like Bobby was for us, then we can go pretty far.

Everyone is saying "we need 25-15" "we need 27-13", etc.

What we need is a winning steak and then to play consistent above .500 basketball. Most good teams, not great, having at least one winning streak in them during the year, if we can string 6 or 7 games in a row together or do something like 10 out 13 we can really get back in it and then we have a realistic shot, without a winning streak we look towards next year, and hopefully a good draft pick!

I like this team when its healthy. We obviously still have "big men" problems.

I think Artest brings an 8 pt. average swing due to defense and offense. We have had 8 losses by 8 pts. or less.

Bibby has undoubtedly stepped up and put the team on his shoulders. I want to see him continue to lead on the court.

My concern is off the court. Who keeps this team together in the locker room? Corliss is the first that comes to mind. Our stability off the court is going to be the anchor to build on.

I have faith in RA but it won't be easy. How will KT, Kevin and Francisco perform off the bench?

So many questions, and the answers will only bring more questions.

Spurs vs. Warriors tonight.

Go Spurs!

Since the Spurs, Mavs and Suns are going to the playoffs no matter what
it is always a good thing when those teams beat Western Conf. teams (other than us).

Eastern teams beating Western teams is also good (excepting us).

These two Utah games are critical. If we win both we're only one game behind them.

If the Kings beat them both times, I think they would only be a half game behind. Trouble is the Kings are bringing up the back of the pact. They would still have to catch the Warriors, Timberwolves and the strengthened Hornets. The last few years the Kings were in front of the pact and it was just a matter of placement. This year the Kings are in competition with six or seven (if you give Portland a chance) for two spots. It's going to be a tough road, but sure should be entertaining. For all practical purposes, they are in the playoff run now if they are going to get in.

While its true we have to "catch" people, and problematically we have to basically catch EVERYONE, reaching .500 by the end of the season really is the key. k IF we reach .500, we will have caught those teams and be in the pack for #8. If we do not, we will not have caught them and will not be in the hunt. That simple really. Think its 22-15 from here on out now for us to reach .500? So no matter who we play, we just have to start winning about 2 of every 3 if we're going to get ourselves into the "race", if there is sucha thing, for #8.

No other team in the playoff race just got an addition like we did.
That's well and good, but it doesn;t change the basic equation. Basically unless we make another move to give him some help, Ron alone has to tranform a .400 team into a .600 team for us to make a run at it (and actually even .500 could well have us lose out by a game or 2). That's a lot to ask when we still have all the other problems we've had all season. Rebounding, interior defense, backup PG etc. etc.

Accidentally clicked this thread, saw this.

I thought about this once we I was reeeeeeeee-aaa-eeeally bored. I think I came up with about 8 also. Kinda neat. :)

Not only did we pick up Ron, but we lost Peja. Our record with Peja vs without him is clear enough. The team is playing like it wants to win again. Haven't seen that for a while, individual players yes, the whole team no.

We just beat Denver with no Brad, and Bibby having an off night.

Getting to the playoffs is going to take at least a little bit of luck, but it is a real possibility now.

There's at least room to have hope now. And that is a lot better than the outlook such a very short time ago. However, the Kings will not only need to win but get some help along the way.

Just our luck that the one year when the two best teams in the West will be seeded #1 and #4 (SA and Dallas) we struggle to get to the playoffs. Making the #8 seed will be a success, but if at all possible, getting the #7 or #6 (vs PHX or Denver) would be the best, assuming that Amare sits out all year.

Maybe Charlotte could be the Lakers? That 13 game losing streak has got to hurt. The Lakers are out of reach provided Kobe stays healthy, it's just never bad when they lose.

Clippers at Boston tonight. Clippers are almost in reach.

Sweeping Utah would be a big deal. These games against 5-6-7-8 spot teams are extra important because they're a W and a L in the same game (in order to move up 2 games on an opponent you must win 2, and the opponent must lose 2). Utah knows it too.

These are going to be hard fought.

kings before ron.....18-24 (.429)

kings after ron....14-7 (.667)

kings were buried in the lottery before the trade, now theyre in the playoffs and a win over the lakers away from the 7th spot...and the kings did make another move-they traded away a rebounder/interior defensive guy for two guys that dont play....

alot to ask??? sure....has ron delivered???? well the wins/losses say it all....an interesting note: in the first 42 games the kings held an opponent to 80 points or less one time-against the rockets who were without yao and tmac....in the last 21 games the kings have done so 4 times with the dallas win the latest example....

not bad for a guy that gets a C grade nearly every game.....;)
