Playoffs - Optimistic?

The losses are OK in my opinion, as long as they can pull it together for the playoffs. Here's the problem: If the Kings finish 4 or 5, as projected, if they get out of the 1st round they will most likely face the Spurs in round 2. This is not a good thing. The Kings can actually move further in the playoffs by finishing as a lower seed and playing Seattle or Phoenix in the Semis, which they have a good shot to upset; this sets up a West showdown of the Kings and Spurs. Yes, the Kings will probably lose but at least the season was more interesting. Moreover, this raises the Kings stock which could potentially lure star players here.

id rather them finish in the best position they can so they can get homecourt advantage for as long as they can...and if that means facing the Spurs in the second round...

then bring on the Spurs

you are going to have to face them one way or another. whats the difference if your in the playoffs an extra round if u dont make it to the big game? and have some dam confidence in your team.

I don't really care who we are playing going into the playoffs.....I'm more interested in HOW we are playing.

If Bobby survives the trade deadline, he will get stronger the deeper into the playoffs we go, so it is to our advantage to hold off any potential Spurs showdown for as long as possible. Furthermore, this team is going to need its confidence up -- much rather win a couple of series before running into the Spurs. Make us believe we can pull it off, and let us see the prize glimmering just on the other side of Tim Duncan. If inspiration/effort/focus is a problem at all for us, it will never be higher than ti would be in a WCF showdwon with the Spurs.

So yes, it concerns me. But at this point we are prety much locked in unless things fall apart and we actually begin to slide backward, so it is what it is.

Id rather play the Spurs in the 2nd round. If we can beat them, we can beat anyone.

And its been said before- better to peak in May than January. This teams working out our problems now. We'll be deadly in the playoffs.

It is my belief we will be a harder team to beat in the WCF than in the 2nd round. Plenty of time to do the "we can beat anyone" thing in Rnd 3 rather than Rnd 2.

I think health and relative momentum are the most important things!

Outside of the Spurs, I think the Kings chances are at least 50/50, if not better against anyone else in the West.

Lots of basketball left!!

I posted this in a thread in the NBA forum, but I think it merits note here:

If the Suns hold off the Spurs for the 1st seed, after we beat Dallas as the 4th/5th, we would face the Suns, which, as Brick says, would not be all that tough of a matchup in a 7 game playoff series for us, I dont think. The Spurs beat Memphis or Houston in the 1st round, then Seattle in the 2nd and boom, there we have it, a WCF for the ages. Minus a 2002-esque, or Feburary 2004-esque for that matter, conspiracy I think the Kings would have as good a chance as anyone to take out the Spurs in a 7 game series.
Then it'd be off to Miami...

I don't think we have to worry about "luring star players" to the Kings. Those days are long past, IMHO.

As far as the playoffs go, I will continue to have faith that this team will do the best they can, as will Geoff Petrie. That's all I ask. We've been to the playoffs as the clear favorites and not prevailed. We've gone into the WCF, played exceptional ball and not prevailed. At this point I'm pretty much not going to even attempt to predict possible outcomes. I'm just going to watch AND pray that things start going the Kings' way.

GO KINGS!!!!

Amen!!!

cause right now the KINGS are really struggling.

I will always have confidence in this team, cause I know that no matter how big of a rut they get in, they always find a way to pull themselves out.

And as for the "luring star players" ....That really makes me mad. I personally think our team is full of star players as it is. Everyone knows that Bibby, Webber, Miller, Peja, and even Bobby deserve a lot more credit as "stars." I would much rather have them on this team, then to trade one off for Lebron or Bryant, just cause they hone the "star" rep. I know my guys are stars, and the public and the All Star game don't have to make it official for me to acept that.

Um...I'd trade the whole damn TEAM to bring back LeBron. :)

I think the reference was to the fact that Sacto has never signed a true marquee free agent. Best that's ever come is Vlade.

I dont know about really struggling, I mean, we're not a team in disarray or anything like that...we ARE a team right now, despite a few losses the last couple weeks. I think that Peja being out, whether or not he's doing it to prove a point of his worth to the team or he's legit about his injuries...whatever...we're still a TEAM more than we've been since 2002, and that will prove to be worth more come playoff time(berring any injuries, of course). I dont care if we're the 4th, 5th, or 8th seed...we can still win this thing is we're playing as a cognitive unit that is reasonably healthy...I wouldnt want to play us in the first round...or second, for that matter.

I am hopeful. I think they need to up there urgency. Go for the loose balls, get off your feet for the rebounds, and most importantly-MAKE YOUR FREE THROWS.
They are free for God's sake.

Look at the seeds this way: The top 3 are pretty much locked up by SA, PHX and Seattle and I'm confident that Seattle will be #3. The Kings then can only realistically hope for #4 at best which would more than likely align them with SA in the 2nd round and IMO the longer the Kings wait to play SA the better. Thus, being #6 would not be such a bad thing because that would put them against Seattle. Sure homecourt advantage is nice, but we have learned over the past few years that it's not as big a deal as it's made out to be.
As far as when is the best time to play SA the answer would be in the WCF. Why would you want to play them in the 2nd round assuming that Bobby is coming back from the injury? Give Bobby more time to get healthy and the team more time to adjust to him coming back plus the fact that with each series win the confidence level goes up a ton and the Kings have a better shot at going to the WCF by not playing SA in the second round. Another thing...although this may be bad to say, but coming from a Kings fan you can understand...the more games that SA has to play before they play the Kings the more chances there are for a key injury to a key player, however the same can be said for the Kings. Not that I want to see anyone get hurt, but I wouldn't mind seeing a few other contenders come down with the injury bug besides the Kings.

I think that the Kings problem is all mental. I think they could win the whole thing with a few effective frontal-lobatomies. One for 13 in a winable game is mental illness.

I am optimistic that we will make play offs. Anythin else is not that important.

We have got to have a better record than Lakers

My Feelings Exactly ...

I'm on this roller coaster .... up-n-down ... start-to-finish .... no intentions of getting off (heh-heh).

Whatever team gets on with us the 1st Round - fine by me (let's finish the 1st go-around).

I'll worry 'bout that 2nd ride and go-around when it comes.

the playoff picture is very interesting this year. funny thing is, let's say that the kings can somehow get themselves to the WCF's. and let's go one step further and say they win the western conference title. then, in all likelihood, we would play miami for the nba championship. in season's past, any eastern conference team that the kings could see in the nba finals would've been a pushover. this postseason, it will be different. the nba finals, regardless of who goes in the west (because its gonna be miami in the east, lets face it), its gonna be a fun series to watch.

I absolutely 100 percent agree with that. This game is all about matchups. And the better matchup you have earlier, the better your chances are. And I would much rather go through Seattle first then Phoenix, then San Antonio. Than to go through Dallas, then San Antonio. My only problem is I think that Phoenix is going to finish with the number one seed ahead of San Antonio. So if you use this theory and the Kings finish 6th or 7th and Phoenix finishes first, then you would go through Seattle then San Antonio.

I could care less about homecourt advantage. It only matters if it goes to deciding last games where the Kings are 0-3 on the road and 0-1 at home. The Kings since 1998-99 have won 13 road games in the playoffs.

But I would rather catch teams like San Antonio, Minnesota and even Dallas as late as possible. Those teams have a ton of playoff experience. Where teams such as Seattle, Phoenix, Houston have little palyoff experience.

Miami FOR SURE is not going to be a pushover, I was thinking the very same thing just simply viewing their standings in the East, sheesh...As far as Kings seed in playoffs, between now and then so many things could happen, for instance injuries to others and no-injuries here  .
