Phoenix game Post-Game discussion

Stats were interesting in this wildly up-and-down game. The Kings lead in FG% (50% to 47%) and FG made, reb 46 to 43), ast (23 to 21), and equal in stl and blk and just 3 more TO's. But the 17 more fouls got the Suns 30 more FT. Yep 30 more and they shot 91% to boot. 30 more FT yet the Kings only lost by 16. A good game and more progress to follow the Warrior game.

9 guys get 19 or more min tonight.
Hawes 6/16, 15 pts, 9 reb, 1 ast, 1 blk in 30 min
Mason 2/4, 4 reb, 1 stl in 20 min
Martin 6/13, 20 pts, 7/8 FT, 5 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl in 29 min
Evans 8/17, 21 pts, 3/3 FT, 4 reb, 8 ast, 1 stl, 2 blk in 31 min holding Nash down way below his norm
JT 5/7, 15 pts, 5 reb, 4 ast, and 0 TO in 22 min

Good bench production from 2 guys:
May 7/12 for 14 pts, 7 reb, 1 ast and only 1 TO in 19 min
My fav was Casspi in 24 min shooting 9-14 for 22 pts with 4/5 3's, 7 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl and only 1 TO

Noce and Beno had poor games by comparison. The suns C and PF schooled Hawes and JT outscoring them by 20.

All in all I view game as progress as Kings equal or better in every category except for the 17 more fouls resulting in 30 more FT points but only losing by 16. Congrats guys.

only in Kings land is giving up 143pts a congrats :p

Its the old traditional trap Phoenix used to trick you into under D'Antoni -- they convince you to run around like idiots trying to play their pace and putting up big exciting numbers...whiel you miss the fact that this is the way they play every game and that they are steadily putting you away while you're having fun.

Over the years, I've gone to at least three pre-season games against the Suns. And, to the best of my recollection, each game has been just about the same. They draw you in and then beat the crap out of you when you're not looking... I don't like the Suns.

I think one of the points was if we had anything resembling decent refs instead of scrubs, many of the foul calls probably would not be called and we may have won the game, given we won many of the other traditional categories in stats.

I didn't watch the game or even listen to it but something is definitely wrong if a team scores 51 points(a 3rd of their total) from the free throw line.

Westphal said during the post interview that we; "Ran out of big players."

Hmmm....than encapsulates my frustration with this team/management.

Not to be to crumudgeonly I do like Evans immensely...

YEP! Unfortunately, the fouls took over the game and I suspect the refs couldn't keep up.

I agree, many of the foul calls against the Kings had G-man Gary Gerould scratching his head. For example if you watch the highlights you will see Noch get called for reach-in foul for a maneuver I see all the time during regular season that the regular NBA coaches would not call as a reach-in foul. Noch can be seen rightly saying "WTF?" You know he was thinking "Come here b&%*, and I'll show you a reach-in foul right down ur throat!"

I didn't see the game. I suspect that most of you, if not all of you didn't see the game either. So its impossible for me to criticize or praise anyone with first hand knowledge. All we have is the opinion of scribes, and stats. Oh, and lets not forget about NBA.com's video summery.

So first, let me point out to everyone, that might want to make dramatic changes as a result of this game, that its a preseason game. Secondly, the real ref's will be back for the regular season. And after last nights game, praise the lord! So I'm inclined to forget about the score, and the, Ahemm, freethrows, and concentrate on what there was to be encouraged about.

The Kings beat the Suns in just about every statistical category except perhaps three point defense. And if not for the freethrow abberation, still might have won the game.

Evans looks better and better with each game. His assist to turnover ratio was fine last night, and he's certainly making his presence felt on defense. Martin is finding out that if you actually play defense, you might get a foul called on you once in a while. Casspi is making a statement thats going to be hard to ignore if it continues. The question is, is he better coming off the bench, that at this point appears to be weak, or better starting.

Brockman appears to be a rebound a minute guy. Which is great, as long as you can find the right matchups to keep him on the floor. That could change as he gets more experience. Here are some questions for you. How did Mason get a +20 something for the game while essentially doing nothing? Where is this tough Nocioni guy hiding? Does anyone want Beno back as the starting point guard? Does anyone want Beno? Would anyone notice if I sat at the end of the bench instead of Ely, and collected his money? Is there anyone that can't wait for the next Donte Greene video? Titled " I know what you did last summer ".

Thompson appeared to have a decent first half. He and Stoudemire had similar numbers, perhaps with Thompson have a slight edge. But whatever it was that Thompson was doing on defense in the first half, the ref's decided at halftime they didn't like it, and promptly fouled him out of the game. Followed closely by Martin. Of course Martin's reputation as a physcial dirty player on defense preceeded him.

Highlight of the game: Evans blocking Stoudemire's shot from behind. Note of the game: Nash faking a sore ankle so he wouldn't have to face Evans the rest of the night. ( I made up that last part ):D

I have been to two preseason games this year. Each game has had 55-60 Fouls called. Each game had 60-75 FT's shot. I have to admit I am not sad to see the replacement refs go. It has been a joke.

i was gonna watch the game but i was h... yeah, i missed it but looking at the boxscore i would think that brick nailed it. the kings got suckered into playing at a speed that they are not accustomed to. we have some fast players but unless they play that way all of the time they wont be able to maintain it. this is why we need our big men to learn to play in the post and not be wusses.... its not like the suns were playing defense. the kings scored over 120 points in regulation without the extra free throws. our bigmen combined for 11 freethrows... i dont even want to look at the shot chart, its probably ugly... okay i did... it was ugly... hawes is a scared little girl out there... thompson played in the paint but fouled out so....

we scored enough points to beat every team that played yesterday besides the suns obviously. this team is so scrubtastic.... dragic and frye beat the crap out of this team... you know you suck when you hold j-rich to 0-8 shooting, nash gets injured after 18 minutes of play and the suns still score 143 points in regulation... if this were a double overtime game i could understand the praise of our young players but they got their butts kicked in regulation by frye and dragic....

epic fail.....

Nary a word about how well Evans did, but you can bet your bottom dollar if he didn't do well you'd be all over him.

Hawes let Frye beat him up from the same place where he wishes he could beat other centers up : from range. The refs fell into the trap of letting an all-star (Stoudemire) get the calls, which was exacerbated by the fact they were replacement refs. Evans should have had 10 + dimes, Spencer missed a lot of open looks Evans set him up for.

I blame this loss on Spencer letting Frye go crazy and the refs calling too many damn ticky tack fouls.

AM27, when are you going to give it up and just admit that Evans is a beast and Petrie was right for drafting him?

Agreed we still need improvement (especially defense) and this game was a lesson. But some of you make it sounds like there wasn't even a single positive thing that came out of the game.

ugh... not really, he played horrible last game and i didnt say anything about him. 6 turnovers, 3 assists...

hawes getting beat by frye is only half of the problem, amare shot as many freethrows as our entire team made in the game; 21. not to mention, thompson fouled out.

this team just isnt very good... they have potential but potential doesnt win games... it makes losing easier to deal with.

The best part of the game is that our youngsters shined again--if we're rock bottom and we need a glimpse of hope for the future, this game provided a piece of it. All of our newcomers contributed--Evans, Casspi, May. Of course, in a no-defense all-run-and-gun game, young legs with a modicum of talent will tend to look good, so I'll take this with a slight grain of salt; nonetheless, it's still numbers, and this shows encouragement.

I know the replacement refs had a huge say in this game, but JT's rampant fouling--seriously, 6 fouls in 22 mins? is starting to become a trend...

Sergio needs to get more minutes over Beno. If it weren't for showcasing Beno because of the toxic contract to attract more trade partners, or if it weren't for Beno's "seniority", I'd say we'd see more Sergio...

About beating the Suns in every major aspect...it's more like we're on par with single category; +3 rebound difference isn't much, and they had less turnovers than we had. And some of their free throw attempts could've been translated to more made buckets, and therefore more assists. Of course being on par is a much bigger improvement than what we've had the last few games, but I still don't think we could've beat them if regular refs were there.

i dont see how allowing a team to score 143 points could be viewed in any postive way... the stats are misleading since it was a run and gun game where no one any played defense. casspi had to score 22 points and may chipped in with 14 for us just so we would not look like a jv high school team out there. who expects casspi to go 4-5 from long range with any regularity?

sergio needs to get more minutes... petrie signing beno to a 5 yr deal was almost as bad as petrie drafting douby. sergio had 4 assists in 9 minutes, beno played 20 and only had 1. in this game if sergio had played 20 minutes he couldve easily ended up with 10 assists; off the bench...

Yawnnnnnnn! Same old same old. Boring!!! But your right. I don't even know why we should play the season. Why don't we just forfeit all 82 games and just wait till next year.

I didn't watch the game but reviewing the box score and play by play, we were doing great until 3rd quarter. Stoudemire/Frye destroyed us there. Frye with three 3 pointers in the 3rd....lucky IMO. And a bunch of freethows. The 3rd quarter was the only one that really got us. 19 points from FT in the 3rd as well.

Hawes got school...which is a very bad thing when I read Frye isn't all that.

Positive side:
Evans did well on Nash. We did well for 3 of the the 4 quarter, evenly matched with a team that was expected to be a lot better than ours. Our bench showing some sign of life. Martin trying some D.

Nash is going to get hurt playing against our Evans. You can count on that. ;)

Dude, you really are a downer.

And for the record, Tyreke didn't play horrible last game. True he has 6 to's, but he also had his way with both monta and curry, both on offense and defense. He didn't slow down until St Jackson was guarding him. Room for improvement? Yes. Horrible? No way. You're not watching the same Tyreke everyone else is.

You don't seem to get any enjoyment out of being a Kings fan. Sometimes I wonder why you still root for the team, if everything about them disappoints you so much.

Horrible? So how is 16 points on 50% shooting, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 6 turnovers HORRIBLE? Because of 6 ROOKIE mistakes?

So you became a Kings fan because of Jason Williams? And how often did he have 6 turnover games? Were those acceptable because Jason was so much fun for you to watch that it didn't matter he made so many mistakes?

evans played horrible in that game, luckily for us the warriors are just as bad if not worse than we are. i dont know why you are under the impression that i dislike evans. i didnt say anything positive about the team because they lost. the suns scored 143 points in regulation. im not going to give anyone credit for allowing a team to score 143 points in a game regardless of their individual stats. you dont see me saying anything nice about martin and how he fouled out. sergio is probably the only player on the team outside of casspi worth mentioning. half of the team could all have triple doubles and i wouldnt give them any credit for it because they allowed the suns to score 143 points in regulation...

you know that a team sucks when the fans are congratulating the players for allowing the opposing team to score over 140 points in regulation. whats the worlds record? oddly enough the suns are tied for that record with the celtics at 173 points in regulation....

Its PRESEASON Which Really Doesnt COUNT SMH ... Dude Your Like Chicken Little AND The Sun Just Started Rising SMH THE SKY IS FALLING AHHHHHH THE SKY IS FALLING

evans played horrible in that game,

Dude, I was AT that game. Were you? How can you tell me that he played horribly when YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE THE GAME AND I WAS THERE?

Nobody is CONGRATULATING the Kings for giving up 143 points. If you listened to the game you would have heard the G man stating that Phoenix has scored over 139 points 5 times since Gentry took over. That was 4 times WITHOUT AMAR'E. Phoenix is going to score, you can't take that away from them. What people are congratulating the Kings on is they played a good game. They really did. The refs put them in a VERY bad place, there is no denying that. But you act like we as fans are happy about piling up losses. Losses suck. But compared to last year when Phoenix beat us 129-81, well, this sure looks a HELLUVA LOT better than that.

i dont know why you are under the impression that i dislike evans. ....

Don't try to act innocent, you don't like Evans otherwise you would be happy that even though we didn't get your man-crush we still got a stud.

i didnt say anything positive about the team because they lost. the suns scored 143 points in regulation. im not going to give anyone credit for allowing a team to score 143 points in a game regardless of their individual stats.

Even though their backcourt got shut down by our backcourt, why give anyone from our backcourt any credit, right? Oh, I forgot, except for.....

sergio is probably the only player on the team outside of casspi worth mentioning.

Your other man-crush. Because Sergio did SO well in his limited time out there. Yeah, kid was a beast! I'm so glad he fell in our laps instead of Dejuan Blair.
