Petrie to fill backcourt with a player with point guard skills

Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie said Jackson's roster spot will be filled by another backcourt player with point-guard skills.

Sorry if this has been reported

Nope you got the scoop. It'll be interesting to hear who he is linning up. I have my fingers crossed and don't want to be overly optimistic, but IF the right dealwere set in motion there could be a big silver lineing here if a Petrie can some how snag a qualty player from a struggeling team.

Actually, this did come out last week. There was also talk that he'd wait until after 1/5 when 10-day contracts are allowed, or until after 1/10 when teams would have to waive players they don't want to have guaranteed contracts the remainder of the year.

I started to merge this thread with the old one, but - on second thought - decided to leave it as a new thread since the old one dealt primarily with Bobby and this is more or less about who will be obtained to fill the gap...

Sorry for any confusion.

:D

My guess is that the Kings won't sign anyone until they get back from this road trip. They are playing 4 games in 5 nights and there won't be any practice time. It would make sense that they would sign someone on the 10th which would be there first day of practice after the road trip.

Yup
And between us Bulldogs I wonder if there is anyway Petrie could fenagle the disgruntled Rafer Alston from Toronto?

I hope the Kings find someone that is a true PG, that way he won't eat too many of Martin and Evans minutes. Because if he is an OG, then Rick can play him at the 1 and 2, which would hurt Evans and Martins chances...

Darrick Martin? that guy who Brad had an altercation with in the playoff series against Minny?

what about liu wei or what ever his name is..... the guy from china that we had during the preseason. we dont need a scorer, just someone to setup the other players....

you got me.... damn i type too slow...

yeah, but he can play the point well, i watched wei in china, and chen's a lot better then wei

needless to say, neither will likely be signed

here is the comment from an article talking about the Hornets trying to trade Baron Davis:

http://www.nola.com/hornets/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1104908124126600.xml

"Bristow said he has listened to trade offers from every general manager in the league, but declined to say if the team is shopping Davis, which has been rumored for the past month."

EVERY general manager? Really? Including us? :)

furthermore:

"The Hornets could be looking to dump Davis' salary to get under the salary cap and have more money to pursue free agents this summer. After this season, Davis has four years remaining on his contract valued at approximately $58 million."

Aha!! My response:

Sacramento trades:
SG Doug Christie(7.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 5.1 apg in 32.2 minutes)
PG Bobby Jackson(11.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg in 21.7 minutes)
PF Darius Songaila(5.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.8 apg in 17.0 minutes)
Sacramento receives:
PG Baron Davis(19.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 6.1 apg in 30.3 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -5.6 ppg, -8.4 rpg, and -2.1 apg.

New Orleans trades:
PG Baron Davis(19.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 6.1 apg in 30.3 minutes)
New Orleans receives:
SG Doug Christie(7.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 5.1 apg in 32.2 minutes)
PG Bobby Jackson(11.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg in 21.7 minutes)
PF Darius Songaila(5.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.8 apg in 17.0 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +5.6 ppg, +8.4 rpg, and +2.1 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED

Which leaves the Hornets with three guys (if they pick up Bobby's option) wiht contracts ending after next year, at the same time that Mashburn's contract comes off the books. End result = beaucoup cap room for the Hornets next summer to go after free agents. Quick! Call Sam Smith!! :)

Yeah the Rise Guys mentioned this yesterday. It makes no sense.

He's a veteran point, who knows the system, having played with some of the core back in 2000. He played solid for Minny last year. Why do you think it makes no sense?

Just in that he left on a sour note. As I mentioned, it would be kind of like us going out and bringing back Keon to fix our shotblocking problems. Like Martin makes sense on the court in a lot of ways, but REALLY?

PG problem

Does anyone think Petrie has considered Bobby Hurley?

He can run the point. I'd take him over Smush Parker anyday.

Well, he didn't exactly leave on quite the sour note Keon did, nor did he trash the organization on his way out, not that I can recall. Sure, he had a suite in Adelmans doghouse toward the end of his tenure here, but the very traits that got him in there might be what we need now.

That's just it about Mateen...he was a good college player and nothing more. Nevertheless, he's on Seattle's roster, but is on the IL right now. However, it would be nice to get the worst dressed man in the NBA back on the Kings' bench...his sweaters were horrible.

His sweaters may have been bad, but the dude knew how to wave a towel!!!

:D

Thankfully D. Martin was just signed to a 10-day contract with the Clippers so we can stop that talk right now.
