Does anyone have an explanation for what Brown was thinking, bringing in Juan Anderson randomly to guard Banchero. That's one of the oddest late game substitions I've ever seen from a coach with his resume

It should be relatively obvious that when Duarte takes over the starting role for Huerter and not Monk, it's not because Brown thinks Duarte is better than Monk. It doesn't even mean that Brown thinks Huerter is better than Monk. It means that Brown wants Monk's scoring and playmaking off the bench for the 1stQ/3rdQ rotations. Does Monk not close every contested game? Did Monk not drop 46 minutes tonight?

The ONLY thing Monk can do to move into the starting lineup is get WORSE and get passed on the depth chart by a better scoring guard. I don't understand why people don't see this.
It's not about who starts, it's about who finishes.

If starting is the difference between retaining and losing Monk by all means start him. Otherwise the current way we play Monk is one of the things that is 100% working.

Yeah, but he didn’t staaaaaarrrrtttt. Need something to complain about

Holy crap. The Kings made life 1000x harder on themselves. This should’ve been a walk in the park with all their injuries, but we let them take us to double OT on the back of Paolo and a bunch of role players and guys no one here has ever heard of. This goes down as a bad win in my book, but I take a win over a loss any day of the week.

Paolo is legitimate star. He had some low IQ plays, but he can be future face of the NBA in 5 years if he can learn to consistently knock down the 3 like tonight.
dude this is a bad take imo. They will never, and I mean never shoot like they did tonight. That is why they were in the game. If any team shoots that well with that kind of volume they will almost certainly win. They made 10, 10!!!! more threes than us. A team we mostly agree relies on them too much.

I'm a Barnes guy because he does everything that comes to him reliably. But he passed up two mid range jumpers in the final minutes of the fourth; one to pass to a well defended Fox, and the other to an open Keegan. Make of that what you will but I think that's a shot that should be taken by Barnes.
I do think a lot of the Barnes hate that's been swirling around here lately is uncalled for given his recent uptick in play after what was an unusually quiet first month of the season for him. But I will agree that the one thing which has always bothered me about HB and will continue to bother me about HB is that he passes up great shots to pass into mediocre or even poor shots. He's been doing this dating back to his time at North Carolina and it's never not frustrating to watch.

At the end of the night this goes down as a huge wasted opportunity for the Magic. They couldn't miss and yet still managed to lose.

And while Fox's disappearing act and some of the calls down the stretch were concerning, the fact the guys we needed to step up stepped up is almost as big as Fox's Magic act last year.

Kings have built up some strong rebounding edges the last few games

+19 vs Magic
+13 vs Hornets
+25 vs Grizzlies

The second chance points won the game tonight.

Domas has been cleaning up on the defensive and offensive glass lately. I know he always rebounds well, but especially dominant on the boards. He’s seemingly not getting beat for any right now

Keegan had a strong rebounding game. Huerter also added 7 rebounds off the bench but still can’t buy a bucket.

Meh, debbie downer syndrome.

The team was laughable last night. They responded tonight vs a very tough Magic team (even without Franz) and our own star player just being horrible the entire game. Gutty-grit check win without Fox doing anything. How is that anything BUT a great win?

I care we had this sort of response after the worst game of the year last night. That's a sign of a team trying to grow and get better.
Debbie downer syndrome? Really?

Let me see how this wasn’t a great win:
  1. Franz Wagner out
  2. Garry Harris out
  3. Cole Anthony out
  4. Markelle Fultz out
  5. Jonathan Isaac out
  6. Joe Ingles out
  7. Kings barely win by 2pts in double OT. Come on.

Calling me a Debbie downer because I’m critical of bad basketball… yeah ok bud. Maybe I’ve been right to check in less around these fronts with all these weird aggressions even in a win?

There's the rub. Players want to start in this league. Monk is clearly an above-average starter talent wise. You bet that's going to be a discussion this off-season when Monk signs a new contract.

They will never shoot like this again because no team in their right mind plays defense quite like the Kings!!! Not a coincidence that every team in the league seems to have great, or even historic shooting nights against us. Defensive game plan needs to be looked at

Banchero was scoring at will. I think Mike Brown was just trying to throw different looks at him.

Gotta also look at it from the player’s perspective and probably ego as well. When you are the 3rd best player in a team, you expect to start consistently so your overall value goes up even though you might be more useful to the team as a second unit player. It would be hard to keep a player like Monk as a non-starter when it is time for a new contract.

I wouldn't have been too upset with this one even if it was a loss. Aside from Fox who has played well for the kings all season this was a great team effort. It's just hard to overcome the great fluke shooting from the magic. They will never shoot like that again this season. It's just one of those magical nights for them. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team.

As Slim pointed out earlier, it only seems like teams go off on us. Believe me, Ive felt the same way but we are right in the middle for 3pt defense. There were some open threes but they played the averages. Second night of a back to back and a team that averages 10 made threes, it was a good bet that those numbers would go down in the second half. Didn’t work out that way but the logic was sound. And even with a hand in the face Suggs was splashing and Banchero was shooting over.

Sure dude, whatever floats your boat. You did the same thing in the Keegan thread, you've done that with Huerter the whole year. You approach things through a massively negative lens lately and it's just not a whole lot of fun to read and digest. Sorry. I don't choose to view the Kings that way, partially because I'm a fan of this team and I want to believe the best in it. But I've been posting here long enough that people know I'll call out bad play/coaching/players/ideas when I see it. If you can't handle the slightest criticism to your postings, then yeah, maybe take a break from the forum and the team for awhile. Obviously getting to you too deeply.

Was it perfect? No. Our star player was atrocious. But how many games last year did we win in crunch time when Fox was off like this? We had 3 dudes step up in a major way (Domas/Monk/Murray) and pick up the slack for a pure gut-check win in 2OT on the second night of a B-B. After the gutless performance last night, I'll take that.

Does this mean I think we're destined to go win a title because we won this game? No. But I think this was a great response to the "effort" shown last night and the amount of heart the majority of guys played with.

I’m a bit perplexed by the Fox performance. Is he kind of like a sprinter as opposed to a marathon runner? Part of it was that monk had it going so he stepped aside, maybe sound logic and he did still play good defense but rough stretch for awhile
