Omri!

Should Omri Casspi be the starting Small Forward on opening night?

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is as if you are saying that the veterans are always better than the rookies. There is no rule that you always have to start with your vets, especially if your rookies are the better option to start and especially when the future of your young team depends on those rookies development.

If what you are saying is right, then we must always start Udrih instead of Evans, Nocioni instead of Thompson.

Now, that is called good coaching?

Not even close. I didn't say anything remotely close to how you interpreted my post.

There's a big difference between adding experience to a young lineup and adding nothing BUT experience to a lineup. I think you can figure out the difference.

I didn't get to see the game.... again.... argh...

but it seems that Noc and Omri had pretty good chemistry on he court tonight? Anyone clarify?

Noc subbed in at PF and when randolph fouled out and Casspi was at SF. They brought ALOT of energy in overtime, both played great defense. Whenever we can get those two out there together that would probably be a good thing.

You can tell Casspi has been a pro for 4 years. He never looks phased and he is already one of the most versatile rookies ive seen this year. His killer instinct and passion for the game is insane, the dude is a straight up winner.
We got our small forward of the future. And im going to call it now an all rookie first team player in Omri.

Plus, he had 3 years serving in the VERY tough Israeli Defense Forces!

I was watching in the gym the televised sac game.. i literally stayed on the bike for an hour just to watch the kings game..

i really loved how casspi grabbed that rebound grant said could be "game changing"

casspi brings that toughness.. and finally! DEFENSE....

and im impressed with his shooting which was supposedly his weak point...

i sure hope he continues to grow....

could he be the hybrid of a cross between Hedo and christie type of player?

A key moment, and one that gives me hope for the future, was when Casspi grabbed an offensive rebound, and immediately passed to Martin set up in the corner for a three. Last year whoever would have grabbed that rebound would have immediately put it right back up and not looked to pass to an open man.

Casspi is the kind of player the Kings need to move forward. He's a team player first. Put five on the floor like him and you'll win a lot of games.:)

yah that was a great play, he was so patient. or when he swatted randolph and randoplh got it back and casspi swatted twice as hard the second time lol. I paused it and looked at Casspis face on that play and it was scary as hell seeing the ferocious look of competitiveness on his face.
I think my next purchase is an Omri jerz!

he wasnt realy serving at the army.. and he wasnt a fighter.. he was just going once a week to clean a building or something..

anywayz Omri is a BEAST,
go Kings.
None the less they still taught him KRAV MAGA! Id think twice before flagrant fouling Casspi.

Whatever he was taught or not taught, Omri Casspi is an incredible young man with a very bright future in front of him in the NBA.

Kingsgirl4 and I were lucky enough to be in attendance at his private "meet and greet" last night before the game, along with a lot of his countrymen and other fans. His father was there along with a couple of former Israeli basketball players and his brother. He is grounded, he is realistic about differences between playing for Maccabi and playing for the Kings, and he's got the kind of dedication and desire you know will take him far.

Whether he starts or not, Casspi is one of the bright spots for the Kings.

Westphal apparently commented on the competitive ferocity in Omri's eyes. Something to the effect that walking up and down the bench and looking into Omri's eyes, he can just see the fierce, burning intensity of his desire to play. I can only hope its contagious. I say Go Casspi! :D

I loved his court awareness for a rookie and he is not

afraid to take the open shot when it's there. His offensive rebound and kick out to Martin in the corner was a veteran move. He is nails and I think he will be starting sooner than later.:D

Yah its not hard too see at all. I hope it rubs off on the rest of our players. Good chance it will if they see a rookie with that kind of passion.

I commented at the game about this. I said, "did you see there were about 4 dark jerseys around him when he had sense enough to look outside and find an open player?"

Casspi's face after that dunk in overtime should be enough to get the start from here on out.. I haven't seen intensity like that in years.

Totally agree. Also in the highlights on NBA.com, it was very evident how much winning means to him. He looked like he was jumping out of his skin with excitement when Beno received the pass from Hawes and was heading to the basket on that last play. Great to see the passion!

Brock and Casspi these guys bring that passion and energy... i saw that too his intensity after the dunk... btw his defense is great for a rookie.. can he be a lock down defender in the future?

loving these guys right now...
Casspi King of hearts
Brock King of Clubs (cause hes going to bruise the opposing teams body like a club :D)

He did a great job on rudy, forcing some bad shots and turnovers.
I think when its all said and done he will be our leading shot blocker and possibly lead us in steals .. unless Kevin keeps stealin at a 2.25 pace per game.

Omri really reminds me of a more energetic better shooting/scoring Kirilenko. Which is a player I think anyone would like on their roster.

He hasn't TAUGHT Krav Maga, but he probably LEARNED some in boot camp.
Basic Krav Maga is taught in every level of basic training. Nothing too extensive though.

No, you don't get taught krav maga in military bootcamp if you're not going to do any kind of a field job, which he didn't. He served in the military in a special capacity for outstanding athletes, which is something we have in Israel to allow athletes to complete their military duties while maintaining their athletic career. Casspi, as far as I know, was in charge of organizing sporting events and competitions inside the military as his military office job. Office jobs is probably what 99% of the athletes do for their service. They do work hard enough, having to still go into the military and train. The most combat-ish thing he had done was probably shoot a gun a few times during bootcamp. But then again, so did I in mine.

Nika, take a look at my profile. I'm Israeli. :)

I served 4 years in the military and went through the 02 Tironut (for the rest of the forum: the simplest bootcamp, the one for non-field soldiers), in which we had some Krav Maga lessons (as I said, nothing extensive, nothing that actually helps in practice). Maybe things were different for him, I really don't know his story in particular.

In any case -- this is becoming really off-topic :)

He's always been a fierce player. That's his edge over other players.
He's full of talent, but his mental strength and toughness are really the things that could take him to the next level.
