Before and around the Lakers game I surfed the net to find some information about Omri and I even ventured to the dark side and read stuff in Lakers forums and the sentiment that is developing around Casspi caught me by surprise (simply because I am focusing on him as the first Israeli in the NBA and taking the partisan view of the Kings and the more neutral view of the sports media ) -- my boy is starting to be hated by the fans of other teams.
Then it hit me : Omri with his passionate all out approach to the game is really annoying the fans of other teams....

If your own fan base hates you it is a bad thing..but if everyone else hates you...respect!

When the kings play the Bobcats Casspi will ask Stephen Jackson how his *** tastes in Hebrew after the kings demolish them

Exactly.
And once he learns to use his ability to tick other players to get them all worked up while avoiding the technical fouls himself -- that's quite a weapon :cool:
 
I don't know what is to hate about him. Guys like Manu get hate because he flops, acts alot, and gets those calls. He's a cheap player, albeit a talented one. That's what many opposing fans hate about him. Omir isn't cheap. He's not arrogant. He's a guy who works hard on both ends, and puts the team first. Guys like that ala Battier, Christie, etc don't have a lot of haters. However, laker fans are dip$%^&s anyway, and hate anybody good who isn't wearing yellow.
 
you got me curious, so i checked it out myself, here is a quote that describes the general feelings in there:
Just watched the game replay, can't get enough of Casspi's reaction. He just puts his head down when it goes in, then he walks around for a bit, scratches his head, then finally walks off the court yelling and throwing his fist in anger. It's fantastic, all game he was pumping his fists, beating his chest, jumping up and down dancing, smiling, and then boom, it all gets sucked away and it's back to reality, you're a Queen.

1. Gloating is an ugly trait, they somehow forgot that they were two miracle shots away from losing the two games against the kings this week.

2. Casspi is the type of player that you don't want to make him feel like he got something to prove when playing against you, as we saw, he just plays better in these situations, so that kind of comments, if he sees them, just gives him more motivation to beat the Lakers next time.

3. When Casspi was "pumping his fists, beating his chest, jumping up and down", what exactly did the Lakers players were doing? or their "fans"? did THEY were yelling and throwing their fists in anger? or put their head down? i know what they didn't do, and that's cheering their team, they were dead silence for 47 minutes...
 
It's pretty normal that other fans hate when opposing players show emotion because for some reason they take it as a slap in the face.

Manu is hated because he is a winner. He won with Bolonga, Argentina, the Spurs...It's his ball handling skills and dribbling into the paint and fooling of defenders as much as flopping or anything else. He is good and he is hated.Nobody in San Antonio has a problem with him.Intense playoff series in Denver, he goes there and dominates the Nuggets A***$. Hornets in Game seven in New Orleans?C ya...Not to mention the poor suns and what he has done to them over the years.Makes Omri and Tyreke collide while changing the momentum of a game we were in, swatting bats...

That is what I am talking about. the guy is a 21 year old rookie. His sharp play got the Lakers on their heels for most of the game. The Lakers fans really took exception and it was like "you see you little punk..don't mess with the mamba..." ---21 year old rookie....They certainly noticed Omri (:
 
Most of us have learned to just avoid the Laker forums. Your sanity is safer that way...

Seriously, I was dumb enough to check it out myself last night, and I'm kinda glad I got out of there alive. That place reminded me of the "Smug Alert" South Park episode. :eek:

Well it looks like Omri may turn out to be better than the Israeli Matt Harpring some of us predicted him to be... but the toughness that gets under the skin of opposing teams' fans definitely is there.

And even if he was no better than his downside in Matt Harpring, I wouldn't be TOO disappointed even in that.
 
You don't hate players that aren't good. Why bother, they're not worth your time. No, you hate players that drive daggers into your heart, and, they know that they're doing it. But secretly, you wish that they were on your team so you could love them. You hate players that talk the talk, but also walk the walk. Your yelling and screaming doesn't affect them, it only makes them better. They seem to enjoy the adversity, rather than shrink from it. The tougher the battle, the tougher they seem to get.. You just love to hate them. They just always seem to be there at the defining moment to strike one more time. Think Robert Horry! Then think Casspi..

Well the diffrence there, and really the reason that Kings fans pretending not to understand it has to just be for show, is that Omri is also making faces and taunting the opposing crowd. That alone is pretty much a surefire way to get yourself hated -- I can only imagine the comments around here if an opposing player did that in Arco. Actually I don't have to imagine -- I've seen them. Lots of calls for one of our perennial wusses to step up and splat that player etc.

True, but most of my post was a generalization. What Casspi does just adds to it. If he were on the Lakers, I'd probably hate him too. But then they would love him. Glad he's on our team.

I generally agree with this theory, but the exception to the rule is Sasha Vujacic. He is garbage and one of the most hated players in the NBA. Watching him almost break down in tears against the Celtics in the finals a couple years ago was truly gratifying. He is slowly moving into the realm of Rick Fox as my most all time hated Laker.

I was just about to mention him. I hate him, not quite sure why. Maybe because he proclaimed himself "the machine" or maybe because he's dating Maria Sharapova. I sure don't hate him because he's good

Yep. At Stanford I hated Brockman, as he tormented the Cardinal for four years at Washington. Now that he's on my team, I love the guy.

Yeah, the first time I saw Brockman, I was watching a Stanford game. I kept saying thoughout the game, who is this guy and why is he getting every rebound? The next time I saw him was when I was watching a Cal game, and I said, who is this guy, and why is he getting every rebound?
And that was three years ago.

One of my fun moments last night, of which there were few, was when Gooden was trying to post up Brockman and threw his butt and body into Brockman and bounced off. Somehow they called a foul on Brockman. I guess your just susposed to move out of the way, but it was funny.

Taunting is a lot different than tormenting. I hope Casspi or I don't live to regret his taunting behavior.
 
you know, I don't remember fans in israel hated Casspi more than other players in his team (Maccabi is the most popular and hated in israel, i know its absurd).
actually, Casspi was very beloved among the opponent teams fans. But mb is coz he represent the idol and the dream of the israel basketball, who know's.
Anyway, if they hate you it means you are exist, that's my opinion.
