Chandler doesn't put up great stats, but there are a couple things to keep in mind. 1) Games aren't played on paper and stats aren't everything. Chandler provides a lot of the things (size & athleticism up front, shotblocking, rebounding) that the Kings need. 2) He's still only 23. He's five years from his prime, providing some youth and hope for the future as well. 3) The Kings don't need another guy to put up big offensive numbers. If he can get a few points off putbacks, running the floor and open jumpers, that's fine with me. The Kings don't need more scoring. If he could put up 8-10 points, 10+ rebounds and 2 blocks or so a game, I think that would be good enough.
He had asthma a while back, was taken out of the lineup and put back in. And he is not providing anything this year. He's been turning in 0-4 pts over the last few weeks and maxed out around 6 rebounds- avging like 3. On the season he's doing better, but I wouldn't jump until he resumes his old form and his breathing problems are in the past. Guys never, ever improve after 23, and there is no big jump when you hit 28. 9 out of 10 guys have similar stats from 22 to 34. Any big changes are anomalies. Chandler will be a 10/10 player and an above average defender. Coming to the Kings would only be bad for him- he needs to be somewhere he fits in the system- a solid defensive team that doesn't rely on any scoring, only an option if he gets wide open underneath a la Ben Wallace in Detroit. As long as Adleman is in Sac, the system will not use Tyson properly. I don't want him here unless there is a serious movement to alter Kings basketball. So no to Tyson: not healthy, not consistent, not as much upside (KG he ain't) and won't be used properly in Sac.
