Official Welcome to the Kings: Quincy Douby! (merged)

Welcome, Douby. You'll be flourished in our team!

I like this pick. We have Bibby, Wells, Martin, Artest, and Garcia as our backcourt -excluding Hart and Price -, and I think Douby will fit with those players.

Ok we have fixed our hole at backcourt, then go get some Big (via trade or FA)! Mr. Petrie~ :D

I'm thinking this isnt going to happen...but I guess we'll just have to wait and see...the next couple of weeks will tell alot.

Quincy seems like a good pick. He can really shoot and light it up. It seemed that when Bibby went to the bench the outside threat was non-existent and the team struggled to score. Douby could definitely help with that. But this could be a sign that the Kings are either S&T Bonzi or letting him go.

Brick remember guys who love to shoot in college when they play with on better than and 3 less than starters have a tendency to change once they hit the NBA and are on the bench behind 7-10 better than guys. It will be interesting to see what a year or so of NBA ball does for Douby's game.

Probably not in this case. This is a HUGE shot attempt shooter guy. That's why the transition might be so difficult. 25ppg + very modest stats otherwise -- 4rebs 3ast 3TO. Shooter/scorer just kind of is what he is.

oh so now everyone wants a back up that can score..... yesterday it was defensive minded pass first point guards....

im iffy on this pick....

wow the guys who are against Douby are really banging on his door real hard.

The guy was a on a Rutgers team that had no offense at all, like someone said already.

He is now on a team that has one of the most feared basketball players in the world: Ron Artest.
Do you actually think his supposed selfishness will show with Ron Ron on the team?
ha!

Bottom line is: he is not sg. He would get demolished by all the sg's in the league. He will most likely be a back-up pg if we dont sign anybody else during the offseason.

I enjoyed the interview. He sounded confident, but not cocky. He did said the Kings made a good choice, tho. ;) He plans on proving it. He plans on heading to Sac tomorrow, because he knows he has to work on his body and plans on being best friends with the strength coach. He sounded like he wanted to start working right this minute! :)

He's only played organized ball for 6 years and feels he still has a lot to learn. He's the second oldest of 5 kids and his parents came here from Haiti. He said his dad was a very good soccer player. Interestingly, he says if it wasn't basketball, he might've gone with tennis.

Said he didn't care what number the team gave him.

Biggest negative: His favorite team/player is Lakers/Kobe. (booo, hiss) Actually fell in love with the Lakers during the playoffs that we don't want to mention or remember. They told him that would not go over with Kings fans. He also likes LeBron.

They asked if he was coming out alone and he said yes. He said he's pretty much been doing for himself since the age of 15, so he doesn't need anybody to come with him. (Yay, a grown-up!) His parents are thrilled and happy with how far he's come in just 6 years of organized ball.

He liked Sacramento when he was here. He basically worked out for the team twice. He couldn't remember Petrie's name or the assistant coach. LOL. He talked about knowing that the Kings had a great homecourt advantage, like Rutgers. He likes that.

He was quite engaging and real in the interview. When asked what he wanted to tell the fans he said to tell them that he was going to work really hard and would would do whatever he needed to do to help the team.

My biggest impression was how eager he is to get out here NOW and into the gym ASAP. He's ready to work and learn.

That's about all I remember at the moment....oh yeah...he likes the 2007 Escalade. Guess he can afford it now. ;)

MM...not the same thing at all really if you havce watched him.

He is aggressive offensively, loves ot shoot, but he's not very physical. Skinny little guy. More wormy than forceful. I'm looking for the NBA comparison. And its not Arenas. Not Bobby. Not really House either because he's more than just a jump shooter. He'll slash too.
Are you happy with the pick up?

Pass to who?? A shooter that can consistently make shots (still to be seen) is a huge hole in our line up.

I say have faith in Geoff and wait to see before passing judgement.

a lot of people have said this tonight, and i agree, geoff's got some leeway. but give me a statute.

i'm still waiting to "pass judgment" on a little trade we pulled last year involving a certain guy named webber.

Agreed that is is crazy we did not get a major player for Webber, but I do not think that I am the only one who was happy just to get rid of him!

Sorry to Webber fans :(

Excellent pick, I almost forgot all about the guy. Welcome Quincy!!!

For those of you that think this spells the end of Bonzi Wells...you've got to be kidding. This guy will fill more of a BoJax type of role IF he gets significant time. He may because we need an instant scoring punch off the bench. He reminds me of Cat Mobley a little bit.

LOL. I think that's not a problem. I remember that Garcia's 'Best athlete Ever Faced' was also Kobe. :)

Anyway, I really love his attitude. Kevin, Garcia, and Douby. Petrie loves people who practice a lot with endeavor.

maybe, maybe not. kreidler seems to think so:

"The end of the Bonzi Wells era in Sacramento may not be upon the Kings, but apparently they can see it from here. Hedging their bets against the possible defection of Wells in free agency, the Kings on Wednesday used the 19th pick in the NBA draft on a swingman who knows how to put the ball in the basket."

so if you think it's ludicrous, it really isn't. remember, kreidler's the bee writer who isn't a dunce.

and honestly, i don't think anyone here went into this draft thinking "man, we totally should get the next cat mobley."

Eh...I think Douby jockers are being silly. But as I was not sold on anybody in this draft, it may not be any worse than anybody else we could have gotten. At least he a) is tough minded; and b) has a calling card (scorer)

My biggest problem is that Quincy Douby played like Allen Iverson -- he COMPLETELY dominatyed the ball. Every possession, half the shot clock. Not like he scored prolifically in a way that you can duplicate in the pros. He needed to have the ball, a LOT. And in the pros, just nto goign to happen. Combine that with a 1:1 A/T ratio (and about an 8-9/1 pts/ast ratio) and I have real questions whether he can be a PG in any true sense of the word. People complain about Bibby shooting too much, and then are excited about Douby?

Thanks.

As I said, I know nothing about College Basketball as we don't get any coverage down under so I appreciate your opinion.

Welcome to the Kings!

Now bust your behind and help us win some games. :)

GP is a smart guy. I don't know much about college players. I'll have to respect his choice until I can see him play for myself. I have hopes he can be the BJax replacement we'd like him to be and become yet another fan favorite with this franchise. Hopefully this means Hart is gone in a trade for a big man, but we'll have to see.

Bibby, Hart, Wells, Martin, Garcia, Douby, Price.

7 guards!

Someone has got to go.

Who will it be???

Bibby, Hart and Price are the PG but only Hart and Price are TRUE PGs
Wells, Martin and Douby are SGs
Martin is a SF who can bring ball up court and start plays but is not a PG

The summer league will tell us if Price moves up to PG backup and Hart goes.

Kings lacked outsider shooting-scoring after Peja left. No one on bench other than Kevin was an perimeter scorer. Cisco shot too many 3's and poorly. So we need perimeter scorers and quick-fast players.

Well, I remember Martin and Garcia were also THE MAN on their college teams. At first, both had problem with Kings. Martin didn't know how to play as a team, and Garcia took jumpers so much as if he was Reggie Miller. But what happened as time went by?

Martin played very well at both ends, and became solid scorer of our team. Garcia (before his injury) regulated his shoot attempts, distributed the ball, defended, stole, and blocked the shot.

I think Douby will be changed, too. And I really love his attitude to practice a lot.

Well, time tells everything. :)

ps : Now, go get some BIGs, Petrie~!

Unless You have info that I don't (and it would not surprise me) Geoff and Rick would have been among the "ignorant"

he doesn't need to have inside info; GP and RA aren't infallible and it's been pretty clear so far that that trade was a mistake. it remains to be seen whether or not they can salvage any trade value with corliss and KT, but even so, are we really gonna get someone better than webber provided us with?

Do you know Geoff and Rick?

Neither do I, of course, but I'm not trying to subscribe things to them at the moment.

Rick...was not involved, and it spelled the beginning or the darkest era in his tenure here.

Geoff, MAY have been involved. For his sake I hope not. Because if it was he blew it and has done jack and **** with the "flexible pieces" he got in the deal. Of course the same guy who assembled the leaderless all soft *** team last year and thought we would be good. So maybe he really is just that dense, who knows.

On the other hand, it may well have come from a step higher up. Which thus far unmentioned actors are not too bright, overreact, like to meddle etc.?

Meanwhile many a sheep in the public have a hard time recognizing impact players and just form opinions by whoever screeches with the loudest attack article. That is unfortunate.

cisco was a prolific 3 pt shooter in college, and became shaky in the nba. i hope douby doesn't walk the same path.

Eh...I think Douby jockers are being silly.
I think the bit over-the-top excitement is just the Kings fans "hope springs eternal" thing. That "is this the one," delusionary hope. Course, I like delusion a lot. Quite often beats the he** out of reality.;)

True about Martin. Garcia...actually that was a significant problem for him last year. In any case, the thing is that Martin is a pure shyooting guard. So that attitude is ok. Douby however, if he's supposed to be our backup point (and at his size he is no NBA OG) has to adjust that mentality. We WANT Kevin Martin to attack and be "selfish". Never really had to adjust that much. But from a PG you need a guy who can make others better.

Dunce? No. But a psychic?

Hey Bonzi could be gone, but based on other things not the drafting of Quincy Douby!!!! I remember last year we drafted Garcia and everyone was like "oh, Kevin Martin is gone, Cuttino's gone!" Well Cuttino did go but then we traded for a veteren SG in Bonzi anyway.
