Official Saints Versus Colts thread

I'm normally an AFC girl, but go Saints! After all the City of New Orleans has been through they deserve this, and I have a tendency to root for the underdog anyways.

I have to be honest, I'm tired of hearing the city of NO DESERVES things, because they've, "been through so much". They dont' deserve ANYTHING as it pertains to the NFL.

I hope the Colts hand the Saints their asses, because of all the vignettes we're gonig to have to put up with for 6 hours prior to the game.

I would probably end up rooting for the Colts, but I also wouldn't mind the Saints winning so I'm going to try to watch the game without any rooting interest. We'll see if that works out.

I've been partial to the Saints for years. I don't normally follow football (I root for them because I like their colors and the Fleur De Lis symbol), but I'm glad to see them get in. Maybe this will solidify my fan-dom?

Go Saints!!

I really have no idea who will win this years Superbowl (at this point) unlike playoff round leading up to AFC/NFC championships where I was more certain of outcomes. Heck, I'm leading our little pick 'em contest by one pt. which is nothing to gloat about as the big game is ultimate clincher.

One thing I know is, Drew Brees can destroy ANY defense and is a great QB in a league with only a tiny handful who deserve that accolade. He sure aint no Mark Sanchez (maybe great down the road) and don't forget that rookie QB had Jets up 17-6 over the Colts before Manning adjusted and they went on a 24-0 close out run.

I think early betting line making Colts 3.5 pt. favorite is probably about right but I would not be surprised if Saints rolled to the win in Miami.

I'm rooting for the Saints because I have always liked Drew Brees. Also, the Saints have never been to the superbowl until now. Hopefully, it will be a good game.

You know, I have to agree with you here.

I'm not a fan of "they deserve it" mantra, especially for a city with a history of being fair weather fans. Still, I'm not going to root against them just because I don't like the narrative. Besides the Colts get some of the most favorable media coverage imaginable, at least up until they dropped the Jets game intentionally. I suspect they will still get plenty, not to mention most of the pundits seem to believe they are just going to steam roll the Saints. Which they may.

Of course you say that having a rooting interest in the game :)

I think we may be due for a blow out and frankly either team is capable of blowing out the other.

Pres. Obama said he's "pulling for New Orleans," with everything they've been through after Hurricane Katrina. ... Not a political comment on my part, but just ironic with Saints and Colts local media and forums going nuts in debating the story.;)

That might have something to do with it...

From the Colts standpoint, they really don't get blown out. Even when they play poorly, the game is usually close at the end, or the last couple of possessions might go poorly, and it winds up being a two or three score game. I can only think of two or three blowouts since 2002, honestly.

With the Saints explosiveness, there's no blowing them out. They can score easily when backed into a corner.

Besides that, both teams are well disciplined. Don't turn the ball over a lot, don't commit a lot of penalties, don't [typically] give up huge plays... There's nothing about the way these two teams play or matchup with one another to suggest that either would be blown out.

By the way, I was going to point out that the line started at Colts -3.5, and is now Colts -6. Vegas is picking the Colts and it's getting more and more biased that way as more people weigh in.

I know the Colts don't get blown out historically, but they've been jumped on before and managed to recover. So its not impossible.

The one thing I think that will keep the game in check is that both teams are turf teams, even with great weather both high powered offenses will lose a step.

Betting on the Super Bowl has become bigger business than the game itself over the past decade, and for the first week and a half, the Indianapolis Colts were the darlings of the gambling world. That has all changed, however, in the days leading up to the big game.

The opening betting line for the Super Bowl was the Colts minus five. The early betting money in Las Vegas sports books came in on the Colts, making odds makers slowly increase the line until it reached seven earlier this week. Now, the number is trending back down.

As of Friday afternoon, the line for the Super Bowl was back where it started, at Colts minus five. That indicates that much of the late money is coming in on the side of the New Orleans Saints. A team that many analysts believe will lose has captured the wallets of gamblers in recent days.

New Orleans came into Super Bowl week with questions relating to stopping Peyton Manning in his quest for a second NFL championship. Now, it appears that there are fans who believe that even if Manning is not stopped, Drew Brees and company can outscore the AFC champs.

The betting total for the game has not moved much since it jumped after the opening line was released. The total is now up to fifty-seven in some sports books, meaning that bettors believe there will be even more scoring than first anticipated.

With less than two days left until kickoff, there is still time for the odds to change. In the past, the lines have moved all the way up until game time, and there is little reason to believe that will not happen here. New Orleans has made believers out of a lot of people this year, and it now looks as though they have brought gamblers on to their bandwagon.

I initially thought the Colts were probably going to win by about opening line to the current -5. I'm less certain now with no Freeney or an ineffective pass rush on Brees. To add insult to that injury, latest report has Manning's top receiver Reggie Wayne hobbling and only listed as probable. I can't imagine this Superbowl being anything but back-and-forth tight (as odds makers have it with a big 57 O/U). So maybe last one with ball wins and possibly in OT.

I've completely ignored talking about the Vikings here. I pretty much felt like crap for 2 days after the loss and just couldn't get over it. Vikings completely choked away the game even though they had Saints number.

I decided I didn't want to blame the refs, but after seeing so many people talk about the missed and blown calls, I just had to go that route. I guess it's easy to blame the refs, like in 2002 with the Kings and fakers.

Then, VP of officiating Mike Pereira came out that a flag should have been thrown on a low hit that would've taken back an interception thrown by Favre. He also discussed 2 other controversial plays in OT (there were 3, he didn't talk about the BS pass interference play), but said that both pretty much came down to there not being enough visual evidence to overturn. I don't agree that it'd be hard to overturn the Meachem catch ch after watching the play on youtube countless times, but of course my bias eyes see the what they want to see. The Thomas run isn't as clear, but a Vikings defender's helmet made Thomas fumble the ball while in the air and it appeared that he didn't get cross the line.

This made it harder to accept the loss and just look forward to next year. However, again, I got over it. I still feel somewhat bitter about the loss and am very angered to see the Saints in the SB. Vikings are the superior team and deserved to be in the SB. Saints have been milking a hurricane that happened about 5 years ago.

I'm not even sure I'll watch the game. I just want the Colts to run all over the Saints and annihilate them 49-0.
