Official Free Agent Discussion Thread: Who do you want to sign?

I said it in a previous thread that i thought stromile swift and bobby simmons would be nice for our team, both unselfish and much improved from previous seasons.

heres a guy who i think we should sign, but is not a necessity due to bobby jackson: sarunas jasikevicius. great shooting, awsum toughness, just wut we need. could fill in at shooting guard? who knows, i hope kings make a run for him though

Jasikevicius - 6'3" too small for two-guard, especially on our team, also poor defender, at least will be when he comes overseas.
Gadzuric has skills imho comparable to Skinner(may be a little slower) but he is much bigger.

From what I've seen of Gadzuric, he's noticeably faster than Skinner. In fact, from baseline to baseline, I'd say Gadzuric is one of the fastest big men in the NBA. Unfortunately, his offensive game is limited to catching and dunking, so he doesn't get to use that speed to score very often.

Kwame really isn't a gamble if we could get him at the MLE or less. After all the Kings know how to make a PF look good. 16pts 8reb consistanly would be nice.

faster, bigger/longer, better shotblocker, and emerging as a major rebounder (8.3 in 22min is huge).

on the downside, less polished offensively

Basically he's a pure defensive/reboudning roleplayer. But what he does well is exactly what we need somebody to do.

Exactly. While I don't know if we'd start him next to Brad, he'd excel as the 3rd big man for sure. Is he quick enough to play PF? Or is this where we find ourselves again with the whole "Move Miller to PF" debate?

Sometimes I think people worry too much about that "quick enough to play PF" bit. He's a good athlete and quicker than Scot Pollard, who is still that big 6'11" defensive body off the bench that we (or at least I ;) ) am trying to replace to this day.

In any case, of the three guys we got in that trade, Skinner remains the one I wouldn't mind keeping around AS A PF, not a center. He's 6'9". Decent size for a PF and tough enough to be on the roster. If Gadzuric was the 3rd big man as a C/PF, and Skinner a 4th/5th as a PF/C, you'd have a couple of reserve guys with good size/rebounding/defense for their positions which would be a welcome change from the last few years

Fair enough. So ideally we have a frontcourt rotation somewhat like this:

Miller/Gadzuric
??/Skinner
Peja/Barnes

Of course, the several million $$ question is who becomes the ???, and how do we get him. I'm still partial to Kwame for the MLE I guess, unless Memphis has any interest in Thomas and Corliss in a sign & trade for Swift or KG really becomes available.

I thought this would be as good a place as any to ask the question.

How much would Joe Johnson cost on the open market??????

I would assume he would be commanding a fair bit more than the MLE but can someone roughly suggest how much he would be worth in terms of $$$??????

Much appreciated :)

Joe Johnson puts 17.1p+5.1r+3.5a+1s as OG in 39.5 min on a team that scores 110ppg. Has potential to be a good(not brilliant) defender. And i think he's still developing.
I guess something like 7.5-9 mln.. If salary cap jumps to 50 mln, maybe 8.5-10.

Since the Kings will be looking to beef up their frontcourt, Donyell Marshall (versatility) and Dan Gadzuric (great rebounding and shot blocking per 40 mins) seem like a decent choice. But Marshall is a short-term option (32, who knows how fast he may decline), and is coveted by many teams, it is unlikely he'll end up in SAC. As for Gadzuric, he will most probably be resigned by the Bucks.

I don't think there are too many options. But that's why Petrie is GM and I am not; maybe he'll surprise us. Rebuilding will depend mostly on making good trades happen anyways, not on getting a MLE off the market.

I like Donyell Marshall, Eddie Griffin and Kwame Brown as candidates if we're looking for a big man. Among guards, I like Earl Watson, Chris Duhon, Marko Jaric and Raja Bell. Any one of these guys would probably take up most, if not all, of the MLE to be signed.
I don't think we can get Brown for MLE. Now I am not good when it comes to these things but according to hoopshype, Brown has a qualifying offer of $6,970,435 so i would assume for anyone to sing him up they would have to offer him at least that much money

Is this right or can someone sign him up for MLE??????

Considering the suns will match any offer for him, I don'[t think it matters. I'm guessing a guy with his talent and age could get 9 million a year from someone but the phoenix will just match it.

If i'm not mistaken Wiz have to make this offer of 6.97 mln to Kwame in the first place then they are allowed to just match any offer, if they do not make qualifying offer he's free agent and can sign for any money. I very much doubt Wiz will make a qualifying offer to Brown.

Washington might not want to keep Brown, but I can't see them letting him go for free.
If Wiz make a qualifying offer they may be stuck with him as there are not many teams with cap space and it's pretty clear Kwame's not the best or I guess one of the 5 best free agents this year. So it's pretty dangerous not allowing him go for free.
