After opting out of his contract and looking for a better deal elsewhere, swingman Devean George is coming back to the Dallas Mavericks.
George has agreed to a roughly $2.4 million, one-year deal that keeps him as a reserve on one of the NBA's top teams and puts him in position for a bigger payday next summer, agent Mark Bartelstein said Monday.

I was amused by the opening paragraph to the Derek Fisher to Lakers story:

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Two new signings:
1) Steven Blake back to Portland. This one confuses me. How doies this fit what they are doing? Have two young PGs in Jack and Rodriguez and go out and throw money at another? At least he's pass first I guess.
2) MoPete to the Hornets. That guy is a real winner. Not that the Hornets are actually bad -- without injuries should be rihgt in the playoff mix. But a 50 win WCF team (Utah) looking to take the next step wanted you and had a huge hole in their lineup waiting for you, and you turned away. Meanwhile the Hornets just get a new Desmond Mason rather than a step forward. Funny how all those guys we had to choose from that draft year (2000) -- Hedo, MoPete, Mason -- have all ended up having very similar level careers. All good solid swingmen, and good picks in the 15-25 range. But no stars. Just rotation guys/parttime starters. Could have chosen any of them and gotten a similar level player.

Danny Fortson would be a good back-up in a PF rotation he can block shots and rebound. he also could be had for cheap. of course he would not be at the top of my list.

If the Lakers hadn't already locked in so much money at the SF position with Walton and Radmanovic, I would've suggested looking into Patterson. Of course, he may not have wanted to come back to LA.
Chris Mihm was re-signed for a 2-year, $5M contract, the second year being a player option. If he can keep healthy, and near his production before the injury, he's a bargain. This may mean that Kwame Brown and/or Andrew Bynum are expendable. This also means that Jerry Buss is willing to go into luxury tax territory, which the Fisher and Mihm signings take the Lakers into.

Petrie should take a look at Dee Brown from Utah who is an un-restricted
free-agent, I watched a bunch of this kids summerleague games and he is a
straight baller. Hes lightining quick on offence and defence, a pass-first
original PG,that can score when he wants to, with a nice jumpshot.
What impressed me most about him was his ability to push the ball down the
court on fast breaks.

I don't know if anyone else is paying close attention to the FIBA's but Batista from Uruguay is ripping it up, averaging 21 ppg and almost 13 rebs a game.
Could be a decent pickup.

Plays a position where we are already overloaded. And has been in the league the last couple of years with Atlanta, and did nothing. I first spotted him, or rather his numbers, the year before he joined the NBA. Was grabbing like 15 rebs/gm -- forgot what league/tourney. I was interested sight unseen. But then he came to the NBA, and just lacked the size/athleticism to duplicate that at this level. If you had a Madsen type hole to filll, maybe you could invite him to camp. But we are already awash, indeed buried, in frontcourt driftwood.
