Nostalgia: My plastic ruler

While doing some tax work this morning I pulled out my plastic one foot ruler to draw a straight line. On looking at it - one side had an ad for Smokey the Bear and on the other was the 1988-89 Kings logo and colors ...... and 13 photographs, the players and the coach and the pictures were of -

Ben Gillery
Ricky Berry
Harold Pressley
Danny Ainge
Jim Petersen
Jawann Oldham
Rodney McCray
Brad Lohaus
Winny Del Negro
Kenny Smith
Wayman Tisdale
Michael Jackson

Jerry Reynolds

I was a season ticket holder then as now. But though they didn't win like I would have liked they were, as they all were, very interesting players and team. I finished and put the ruler back in my desk drawer.

haha appreciate the details.

there can be no nostalgia for Ben Gillery. THE single worst player in the entire vastly undistinguished history of the Sacramento Kings, and a man that my father never forgave for his utter incompetence until the day he passed (the klutz cost my dad a Whopper you see by being compeltey unable to catch shoot, dribble, or even walk without tripping over his own feet).

I still can't figure out how the HELL Gillery went to G'Town and played for John Thompson...and retained absolutely, positively NOTHING in the way of skills?!? The walking wounded Ralph Sampson was a close second as far as all time worst King.

Wow! What a flashback! I know exactly what ruler you are talking about, I had one when I was a kid in school. I wonder what the heck happened to mine lol :D

EDIT: I tried finding a pic online but this is the only one I could find. Ruler is white, on bottom right. You can only see the side with Smokey on it though, as the players pics are on the other side.

I remember him as being lousy but I didn't realize he was that lousy. On the flip side, it was interesting for me see so many notables on one of our teams. Of course their play as a team wasn't notable at the time although I suspect more notable than the present lot. I'm beginning to think that you can call the present group a BBB team. Bankrupt basketball team.

I hate admitting I'm stupid by I am. Can anyone tell me how to get a picture on a thread entry? I have scanned the ruler but can't figure out how to get displayed on this thread.

I have never tried it on this forum but let me test it

Seems to work. I just replied to post, clicked on manage attachments then a window pops up. Click the green "add files" button which opens another screen where you click "select files" and locate the picture you wish to upload, and select "upload." Now the file should be uploaded to the system, just make sure there is a check mark next to the thumbnail indicating that you have selected the file and finally click the button on the bottom right of the attachments window where it says "insert inline" and then you are done.

Sorry if my directions are confusing, I'm terrible with directions lol.

WOW!! great flashback. The good ole days and how could we forget these players also on that same team at one time or another that year: Joe Kleine, Rodney McCray, Ed Pinckney and LaSalle Thompson with Jerry Reynolds as their coach. Kenny Smith was the only King that year (his 2nd year) that started all 81 games in which he played.

Somewhere in early 1989 I went to Arco to buy a ticket to watch the Kings in the new arena. 2 hr before game time SRO (standing room only) was the only ticket at any price. Stood up by the lounge bar and by end of first quarter an usher said I could sit anywhere in the top 2 rows. Packed with cheering, hollering, supportive fans. And their record that year was 27-55. Interesting they scored 105.5 its/gm but were 20th of 25 teams in the NBA at the time. But who cared back then? not many and we were still 9 years away from KingsFans.com (BTW I was one of the originals signing up for KF in 1998). Fun days to watch and hope.

If the pic is out on the web somewhere, then all you have to do is copy its url (normaly just right click on it, click Properties, and copy the address), then when you reply here got to advanced mode and click the little icon just above the text box that looks like a little picture, and paste the address into the little box that will pop up (same effect cn be created by manually typing in the html code
. This is nromally the route I take, and I keep a photobucket.com account where I upload pics from my computer, and then copy their address there and paste it over here.

If the pic is on your computer though, on your phone, whatever, and not on the web, then what you want to do is look down below the text box (in advanced mode again) for the tab labeled "manage attachments". Click it, and follow the steps to uplad your pic to the site. I find that functionality confusing, but it works.

Thanks for posting that. I was there for those games and it was as you say. It was fun and wild. It still can be and is sometimes. Great post.

Thank youy Brick and kingsfanpaul for your help. I made one try last night and I failed. It's too late tonight but I promise to give a shot tomorrow. This is not unusual for me, computers have my number and I've had one or another for over 20 years. Thanks, and when I make it I'll show off.

I'll be watching and waiting. :) I think all the help you need has been posted but sometimes info falls between the mental cracks so feel free to ask more questions.
