Because to every good thing comes an end, just like Ax and Smash when Vince tried to stick Crush in the mix.

These are my major gripes that you can chew on. By the mid-90s, fundamental skills and unselfishness were beginning to die out rapidly. Also, plodding, hulking, boring defense laden ball was becoming the norm for less talented teams because it was a hedge against getting nightly beatdowns (prime example: Fratello's Cavs). Now it is damn near THE norm for every team. Sometime in the mid-to-late 90s, players coming out of college were more and more inclined to be high flying dunk artists or 3 pt bombers. Also, the mid-90s saw an influx of kids jumping in straight from high school. No matter how good these players are, they still would be better served to go to college.

Gargy, I absolutely concur. Athletic talent is not used for fundamentals now, but to "show off". While it may be flashy to some, it is not what basketball used to be...or was intended to be. Having said all that...I STILL LOVE BASKETBALL!!

The worst is when fancy plays don't come within the flow of the game. Larry, Magic, Michael, and Doc's creativity came out on the fly. That's what made them so great -- they proved that jaw-dropping moves were fundamental for them.

Augmon made tons of nice plays in that video -- however he was one of the first guys who was taken based on pure 'atheticism' despite having a horrific looking jumpshot and not having many guard skills.

Much like today where players are selected for defense and athleticism, The Plastic Man was one of the pioneers of that whole trend.

I don't think the early 90's was neccesarily perfect when it comes to the NBA. It was a bit more enjoyable overall, but I wouldn't say it was leaps and bounds better than it is now. There was of course MJ, but this was a team after Magic and Bird. So why is it so much better than todays game?

No offense, but I already answered that question above (post #10).

I also think the early 90s were more enjoyable than today because the play was still more old school on average and defense wasn't quite as stodgy.

I was just trying to point out that a guy like Augmon who was in this video was the epitome and the start of the drafting of a player with ATHLETICISM and DEFENSE despite lack of offensive skills.

I don't either and I understood what you meant. The 80s were leaps and bounds better than today. The early 90s were the point when play started to go downhill. This, of course, is my opinion and you have your own.
