NFL 2023-2024 Thread

welp. no defending Purdy tonight. he had a chance to step up and prove that he could come behind and win... instead, 2 INTs.

funny that our defense was awful all night, but gave us a chance at the end, but our offense couldn't pull it together.

I hate being so right all the time. Smh
I think Purdy will be fine, and he's going to have a lot more chances to prove himself, but tonight was not that night. he cost us the game, but I think we should be ok if the rest of the team doesn't crap the bed again. defense was atrocious

You can also make a good case - Ward cost em the game right before half.

It’s the “Purdy’s as good as the team around him” narrative that is absolutely true. Give him (or anyone with NFL talent) a copious amount of weapons, they’ll be fine. The defense doesn’t crap the bed, he’ll less likely have to put the team on his back.

Purdy will be fine, in a sense. But he’ll only be fine if the team gets healthy and plays to its potential. He isn’t putting anyone on his back, and why should we expect him too. He’s Mr Irrelevant who just happened to be a little better than Trey Lance. The shine is gone. We’re right where we were with Jim. So no Super Bowl. Window slammed. G’nite

Two nonsensical interceptions. He gave me nothing to work with in defending him. I still can’t figure out the first one. No pressure. Just threw it to the wrong team. Second one there was clearly nothing there and should’ve chucked it out. That was Jimmy esque forcing the issue. Something Brock is supposed to be better than.

it’s a shame. He had a very very good game until the defense FINALLY provided the necessary stops and then he couldn’t get the job done and just made bad throws and mistakes.

Anyway, I’m probably not where @SLAB is yet but im definitely feeling more like past seasons. Where obviously this team COULD win the Super Bowl but they aren’t the absolutely dominant team that I thought they were two weeks ago.

and that’s not just because Brock Purdy may not turn out to be Joe Montana…our defensive line is killing me and our secondary leaves much to be desired too.

They need a big performance at home against the Bengals

The secondary has always been average, but the defensive line gets a D tonight - if it wasn't for some good run-stuffs, would've been an F. 49ers offensivele line also didn't run block well, and where was Mason? How 'bout some fresh legs.

For Purdy,
The 2nd interception you expect better - the first one looked like too much anticipation. Purdy is gonna have to be more careful going forward.
That McCaffrey fumble in the beginning of the game really turned the tide of the game early. Letting a bad Vikings team beat you is eye-opening.
Also, that last timeout that Shanahan wasted puts alot more pressure on Purdy. Thats on Shanahan. 49ers are officially in a slump and no longer dominant looking - the next game is now very important against a good Bengals team - they needed this win tonight, and they laid another egg.

I cannot believe Shannahan is gonna let CMC play against the Vikings. I don’t think most people here understand just how bad the Vikings are. My new woman is a Vikings fan so I’ve had the misfortune of watching all of their games. This team was bad before their spat of injuries. They are way worse now.
WE DONT NEED CMC to beat this team!!! Sit him and let him rest!!!! Seems like common sense to me, but then again, Kyle is a Shannahan. Him and his dad have the reputation of running their RB’s into the ground. Kyles gonna do the same with CMC. I shouldn’t be suprised……

I’m here in Minnesota waiting for tonight’s game. Can’t wait to see this stadium. I will be the lone niner fan among tons of her family of Viking fans. Please don’t blow this game…….
So…….

Two weeks ago anything less than "OMG we're the greatest on Earth" was considered a faux pas. So the team isn't perfect... now we're looking for a new QB again? Y'all are funny.

Everyone telling me to calm down like I wasn’t talking perfect sense after the Browns debacle. I very much overrated the team after 5 games. I was on the “OMG UNDEFEATED!” bandwagon, especially after that Dallas beatdown. But that Browns game was EYE OPENING in so many ways. Then they follow it up with that. There’s so many questions about this team. Purdy is one of them. Wilks and the DLine is the biggest though. Imagine being the defensive coordinator that can’t generate a pass rush with Bosa and Hargrave and Armstead and the rest. Is Bosa out of game shape still? Is he just coasting after getting his money? This is still a playoff team (obvs) but has some soul searching to do anything else.

I don't think any team in the league this year doesn't have a few problems that are frustrating their fans. Over the last two games we've learned that we are in the same boat as the other playoff teams in the league. Purdy isn't the second coming of Joe Montana, or at least not yet. Last year's absolutely unstoppable D-Line has looked ordinary this season. We're on our third defensive coordinator in 4 years with the previous two now leading other NFL teams. Our former offensive coordinator is leading the #1 offense in the league in Miami. All those draft picks are getting expensive. Trent Williams is getting older and having trouble staying on the field...

This is just the attrition that all good NFL teams go through. That's why it's harder to maintain multi-year dynasties in the NFL compared to the other pro leagues -- more injuries, the hard cap, team success leading to coaching turnover. I guess we could look back at the sum total of the last half decade and say it will be a huge disappointment if this group never makes it all the way to the promised land but I still remember the decade plus of irrelevance before Harbaugh's tenure and I prefer watching a team that has a chance to win every game instead of just waiting for the draft year after year.

I wonder when they're going to start eyeing the defensive coordinator. Basically the same crew as last year, yet very little consistent pressure and the defense looks like swiss cheese in comparison. Cousins whiffing two easy touchdowns in the red zone made it look like the defense did an okay job.

Well, that was a crap show.

and the only reason it didn’t age well is because this team is thought of too highly. Guess I fell into that trap too. Unfortunately I’ve seen all the Vikings game and that team that the Niners lost to last night was even more short handed than they have been. They are still just as bad. Wanna know how bad they are? Watch their next game. It doesn’t matter who they are playing, they will look like the team I’ve watched all season. That the Niners lost to them is a friggin embarrassment. It just speaks to just how far this team is from being a Super Bowl shoe in like most of the fan base has believed this season. This loss to this horrible crappy Vikings team spoke volumes about our Super Bowl chances.

The loss to the Browns spoke to all the red flags. This game just confirmed it.

That 1st interception was a killer, the 2nd one was desparate - it was 2nd and 10 - he could've thrown away, or make a run outta bounds, - but he forced it.
The first interception was on Jennings. Purdy was throwing to a spot. Jennings made a very soft cut ( or slipped). If he makes a hard cut, that is a catch instead.
