NFL 2023-2024 Thread

Surprisingly they aren’t. I’ve been lurking at their forums and they are mostly saying they wouldnt be here if it wasnt for their coaches aggressive nature. They would like it if he could pick and choose the moments better but they know this is who he is.
Is that really true, that they wouldn't be here if they didn't have a coach who always wants to go on 4th down, regardless of score and situation? Or is that a narrative that someone started and their just going with it?

Sounds about right. I was thinking it would be pretty close to pick ‘em. Thought the Chiefs might have been the slight favorite because Mahomes.
The interesting dynamic for this superbowl rematch is in the original 2020 game, the 49ers defense was the more dominant and the offence trying to facilitate. Believe the roles have been reversed this year, while on the Chiefs as well, they themselves are reversed as well with a defense that looks better than their offense this year and it showed vs Ravens. So both teams strengths may be juxtaposed for the rematch Superbowl. I think Purdy is figuring out that he can run, and is quicker than many QBs in the league. Make the defense pay for their tight coverage and get like the road-runners in Arizona like tonight.

I sure hope so......alot rolled the 49ers way for this win - it was pretty magical. I hope they beat the Chiefs, and will have to trust in Purdy for that.
This has been a momentum team all year -- they feed off big plays and can struggle when they're bogged down in a trench battle. The defense being so all or nothing is definitely a cause for concern. They looked completely incapable of stopping Detroit's run or pass game for two quarters and then suddenly they were an all league defense again in the second half. Hard to explain but at least they played their better half to close the game out instead of the other way around.

I don't think this Kansas City team is that intimidating though. They lost to the Packers and the Lions this year and just got shut out in the second half by the Ravens. With two weeks to prepare, I like the Niners chances against KC. This is the matchup I wanted. Kittle, Deebo, Juszczyk, Warner, Greenlaw, Bosa, and Armstead were all part of that 2020 Super Bowl squad that had a 10 pt lead in the 4th quarter against Mahomes and Andy Reid then gave up 3 touchdowns and lost. A chance at redemption is all you can ask for, now it's up to them to make the most of it.

Why wouldn't you trust Purdy?

Dude hasn't lost a playoff game he's finished with an intact elbow. Showed us a game winning drive last week and put the team on his back here in the 2nd half and absolutely carried this win. Absolutely nails with his clutch scrambles to keep drives alive.

To some extent, I understand the arguments about his current context with the weapons he has and Shanny as the playcaller. But we've also seen how utterly atrocious this O-Line is, even with the best LT in the game in Trent Williams. It's almost cost them the last 2 weeks. But 21-5 as a starter speaks for itself. NFC championship appearance and now a super bowl appearance speaks for itself. Putting up historically efficient numbers and breaking 49ers passing records. He'll be the 3rd youngest QB EVER to start in a super bowl.

What I really like now, is now the 49ers have above average scrambler in Purdy, who can make the Chiefs pay.....Mahomes does it all the time, and its time for Purdy to follow suit. The nature of the win today gives me hope, though I still think the Chiefs may win.

If you watch college clips of Purdy, he loved running the ball and scrambling - I think it may have been drilled into him to stop by the staff, and I'm pleased that Purdy thought F#$# it, I'm taking off. He needs to do it more - he's quick and nimble (at 24), so take advantage of it. In the 1st half he was sitting in the pocket hell-or-high-water and the interception resulted. He's a good scramperer.

Of course KC may win. This isn't SF vs Denver or Chicago vs New England back in the day. It's a close matchup. Regardless, no good in going into the game scared as a fan

Lucky for you, Tay Tay has a concert in Tokyo Super Bowl Sunday.

SHE OUT
There’s a sixteen hour time difference though so if she leaves directly after the concert, she could probably still make it to Vegas with a couple hours to spare
Sooooooooooooooooooo,

What @Tetsujin is trying to say here is...

That if "Tay Tay" does indeed show up at Allegiant for the Super Bowl, it's all @SLAB's fault?

:p:p:p

It was so awesome to see how emotional big Trent Williams was after the game. He is so happy to be going to his first super bowl. The niners gotta find a way to win this.
My girl is a huge vikings fan and she was so into this game! We went outside here in carmichael aftert the final gun to listen to the celebratory fireworks. What a great evening!

I never want to hear anyone ever call for Shanahan’s job again. People are aware that he’s one of the best coaches in the league right? Despite our lack of rings, this has been a very dominant run by Shanahan, best of any coach outside of 3-4 guys. Do you know how hard it is to reach the NFCCG, let alone 4 times in 5 years?

You would think the lack of success with the Kings would allow fans to appreciate all of this winning…

Wilks? Now… that’s a different story

I’ve said it all year long, Brock has given me all of Keegan’s vibes. He’s not going to be special, he already is special!

The sooner you accept it, the much easier life is. Back to back games where he put the team on his back to get us the victory.

The absolutely insane thing about Brock is that by all accounts he definitely should not be as good as he is. All his measurables are pretty those of any random average dude you’d pull from the stands and he doesn’t quite have a bazooka arm like some of the other small guys like Burrow or Kyler and yet the dude just wins.
people don’t think QB wins should really be a stat and yet the careers of the Tom Brady’s and Joe Montanas of the world would suggest otherwise.

Jim exists. QB wins is a pointless stat because of him.

The thing about Jimmy is that I don’t think his QB wins can be discounted either. The dude had an uncanny ability to play like someone who had never touched a football before for 57 minutes before randomly turning into the lovechild of Joe Montana and Tom Brady whenever it mattered. If anything Jim G was the true successor to Eli Manning’s No no no… YES powers. The Raiders just sucked so much that they were never in games late enough for James G to show up.

He like Brock and Brady was a competent game manager.

Turns out that might be more important than being able to break a play once in a while for 80 yards.

Ravens super QB MVP blah blah blah has a defense that holds the Chiefs to 17 and can't frickin win. Let's talk about that.
