NFL 2020-21 Season

Today’s QB rumor of the day is/was apparently the Colts and Bears are involved in a bidding war for...

...

...

CARSON WENTZ

There’s one name I’m glad the Niners haven’t had even a whisper of rumored interest in.

We've seen this before with other players - can be tough being a good pro sports player on a bad team. I recall some schadenfreude in the NBA watching Bryant give up before the playoff game was decided against the Suns in the mid-2000's without having Shaq anymore.

In the NFL more recently Melvin Gordon on the Chargers held out to his own detriment.....Austin Ekler took over and was just as good or better. Trying to recall the last QB to do so? To be fair don't know if Watson will hold out yet or capitulate....

QBs taking up like 1/3rd of the teams cap and then mad they don't get protection... I'll forever be spoiled by TB12s unselfishness/rich supermodel wife. But really, if anyone ever wants to challenge his legacy, that's the sacrifice that will need to be made. And I am sure they'll be able to clean up afterwards in endorsement deals. So...

WRT the Stafford deal, didn't Rams give three first round picks, even if one is not as good? NFL teams go nuts over first round picks vs. player value so I can sort of see why Detroit would rather have that deal.

I believe it was “only” 2 firsts, and a third.

Jimmy G, this year’s/Next year’s firsts, and a second and third next year, a second two years from now, and we promise not to make fun of the Texans too bad when they inevitably do something stupid again. Final offer.

just imagine... This could have been all avoided if they just drafted him like they should have instead of Solly “not quite Myles Garrett” Thomas.

I won’t pretend I wanted Mahomes that year, but I was all-aboard drafting Watson at 2.

Once again, pretty much the only name in the QB class that I wanted nothing to do with.

I actually think this is a really good fit for both him and the Colts. He was a top 12 qb in most statistical categories from 2017-2019, he is only 28 and is being reunited with the guy he had his best season with. I won't be surprised if he completely turns it around this year. If he still sucks, they are out a 3rd rounder and a late second round pick. Not the biggest gamble in the world for the most important position on the field. Good move for my eagles too as we are full of aging high dollar players and needed to get a lot younger.

Mock drafts have the 49ers drafting QB Trey Lance @12 - I'm not sure I like that pick based on highlights - his passing looked good, but his running/scrambling just ok could be better - he wasn't bad looking but I don't know about the 12th pick......instead pick up the consensus best player available with 1st pick, - especially if there's a #1/#2 positional rated defensive player - ie CB, linebacker or EDGE rusher, then go maybe 3rd rounder for a QB. Example if Caleb Farley especially or Patrick Surtain is available straight up pick one up to replace (backup) Sherman at 12. @ QB pick up Jamie Newman @ QB - trade up to 3rd round for 4th/5th or 4th this year and next year? - not as good as Lance overall, but they get a top rated player at a defensive position, and can develop or compete Newman under Jimmy G thick contract. I liked Wilson/Fields, if either slips, might be worth extra picks depending on how many and where slip to - maybe Fields if at 6 or 7 ~ can trade 1 and 2 and next year's 3? Jaguars will want a King's ransom for Lawrence.

If the Niners pick a QB I’ll be over the moon. Jim ain’t it, even though Lance is the developmental one of the bunch and would likely sit until Jimmy stubs his toe 3 plays into the season.

I agree the Colts are likely the best landing spot for Wentz but I don't think this makes a lot of sense for the Colts why not get the QB that Reich actually won the Super Bowl with as a 2-3 year stop gap who probably is much cheaper?

Hard to believe the Niners will potentially improve their position in the division by sitting back, picking their noses and pretending JimmyG is the answer at QB.

The Niners have somehow improved their position in the division by doing absolutely nothing but watch their chief rival implode in upon itself.

Would be surprised if anything happens with Wilson....he had a stellar initial 5 or 6 games followed by some average or even poor latter season games - overall a strong season. Rams defense handled them with their best game of the season. Seahawks running backs aren't that impressive - they seem like they force their run-game too often. Their quality of running backs is a notch under the 49ers. With Wilson 32, the Seahawks are starting to wonder, but he's got another 4 or 5 years pretty easy.

All is well though with the Chiefs getting their butts pasted. Next year I hope an AFC team can do the honors - not holding my breath on the Raiders though.

Yes, pick a QB, but smartly. No need to drastically overpay. There are some decent looking QBs in latter rounds. 49ers gambled on the Garoppolo contract and got the short end of that - not a total failure, but poor. Fields might be worth a trade up if around 6+, but many other teams need QBs worse than the 49ers. Garoppolo is an average QB (paid as a superstar); some teams don't even have an average QB.
