NFL 2020-21 Season

Trouble in Chiefsland.

Because after what happened in the Super Bowl “Gutting the O-Line” is the way to go!

This is probably an injury-risk/value assessment by Chiefs management/medical. Chiefs will plug the holes, but wonder how well.

I really enjoyed being wrong and watching the Chiefs get pasted. I wonder if the Niners were able to feast on cruddy tackles like the Bucs, would it have been enough - possibly - but uncertain. Clearly the Bucs had better offense than the 49ers superbowl. More to the point though, much of the Chiefs loss this February goes to the Chiefs defense melting down. They bent against the Niners offense in the 3rd, but stiffened out in the 4th.. Contrast that to the 10-17 pts they gifted through penalties against the Bucs and it was a laugher. Had the Chiefs defense showed up, they probably still actually lose, but it'd be 20-9 instead of 31-9.

Teams are gonna be blueprinting 2021 Superbowl for the Chiefs - but I think the Chiefs will still be a high-level team, and maybe again the favorite. Their mythology has been popped - good riddance.. Raiders and Chargers will do their best to give the Chiefs a few losses next year. They're still public enemy 2 behind Seahawks.

I'm happy to see Juice, Verrett, and Moseley all coming back. I think that's everyone we needed to have. I'd like to see DJ Jones re-sign also. I'm mixed on Trent Williams. Absolutely we need a LT. I don't know that it needs to be one of the highest paid tackles in the league. Especially considering that $20 million or so which would got to Williams is missing from the cap this season because of the 2020 season being played without fans. Center is just as big of a need. I trust this front office to bring in some talent one way or another. It looks like they might be prepping to ship out an Edge Rusher so maybe that's how the O-Line needs get met this season?

Kendrick Bourne to the Pats.

I’ll miss his random switches between clutch handsy 3rd and long grabs and then also bouncing passes off his hands right to the nearest CB.

Not as much as Jimmy G will! :D

Pats also got a TE today from the Titans who is supposedly good but I don't know him but it would be nice to know that even though they re-signed Cam if they have a plan at the QB spot. And frankly I'm not keen on Jimmy G heading back as a solution, will win too many games but not enough big ones.

Young pro-bowl level corner is a bad signing?

In isolation, no. But that team went 1-15 last season. Slicing $15 million a year off the salary cap for a CB feels like an extravagance for a team which clearly has needs all over the field.

With a guy who’s hopefully a stud coming in at QB on his rookie deal. Swing for the fences and hope he hits expectation before he gets signed to a half-billion dollar contract extension.

Lol Chicago, from a potential godfather offer for Russ Wilson to Andy Dalton.

The Texans also signed Tyrod Taylor for a year at 12.5 mil... hmmmmmmm

I love the Alex Mack signing. Still have mixed feelings about how much we're paying Trent Williams but there's no denying that he's elite at what he does. There won't be any excuses for our QB this season with Kittle, Deebo, and Aiyuk out there to catch passes, a C who knows Shanahan's offense inside and out, and the highest paid LT in NFL history. McGlinchey needs to step up at this point but if he's the weakest link on the O-Line we're in pretty good shape there.

We still need depth at CB but it's no longer a necessity that we draft a starter in the first 2 rounds. I don't see any holes on offense now. Though Jimmy G is probably not the franchise QB we once thought he was, he's at worst league average. I don't see any holes on defense either if everyone can stay healthy. This gives Lynch and Shanahan a lot of flexibility with the draft.

Solomon Thomas to the Raiders.

What a storied career. Forced to draft the inferior lineman instead of Myles Garrett because Kaepernick and Chip Kelley won a meaningless game on a last minute drive + 2pt conversion against Jeff Fisher.

Drafted instead of my guy Deshaun Watson. (Or Mahomes, but I’m not going to pretend I wanted him at the time. I was all about the Watson Wagon though)

Then was wholly unimpressive his entire run.

I wish him luck. Great guy. But damn, I wish Kaep lost that game and we got to take Garrett.
