NBA Summer League 2014 in Las Vegas

After the Collision signing, which was so much fun, spent time at the Thomas and Mack with Uncia, Bajaden and the Captain. What great guys to watch basketball with.

Looking forward to more Kings tomorrow.

Where is my picture of Sim palming Baja's head??

Yeah, Exum was really impressive in his SL debut.
He looked to have more of a facilitation mentality than did Burke.
If the plan is to play them both together it looks as if they have the skillset to make it work, though Exum needs to work on his shot. However in their first game there was basically zero chemistry between them...and they just took turns running the show rather than working together.

Today is going to be a good day.
First game is Cleveland so we get a second look at Wiggins.
Then the Kings game...and we are going against the Hornets which means we get to see Stauskas vs. Vonleh, and then we can see how much debate there is after the game.
Even though I don't think I've said this before, I would have been fine if we picked Vonleh as we desparate need size and length next to Cousins and I think that Vonleh will end up being a solid player. But...Nik is far more NBA-ready right now compared to Vonleh, so I expect him to 'win' today's match-up.

I don't know. They looked good together to me. It's true they looked to take turns switching from 1 to 2 and back. The alley oop was w thing of beauty. I was worried they'd ignore each other, but they gave the defense fits with the unselfishness. I will say though that at this point burke is a bigger threat to shoot, but Exum is a freak. That jazz team is my early darkhorse in the west. A very solid group of young talent.

Jamychael Green on the Spurs squad and Cory Jefferson on the Nets squad are either shotblocking or possible stretch 4 types. Not seeing Jefferson as a big defensive boost, but he can hit the outside shot, rebound and is very athletic. Green is more a defensive role player who seems to be able to not get in the way of half court offense. Green is an invitee while Jefferson was a 2nd round pick (last player taken) who would have to not get a contract from the Nets to be available. Jefferson could develop into a stretch 4, but his 3pt range is kind of an unknown. His face up shot looks like it could be a part of his offense.

our difficulty is that we already have 17 backup power forwards, so what we need is not just a body of the right style, but somebody good enough to START. And that's not likely to be found in summer league.

Nor in trade it seems. The FA signing issue being that the FAs are starting to dry up and the journeyman bigs are normally some of the last to sign, because they can wait for the teams to shape up and just see which contender wants them.

We've got Acy, Thompson, Landry, and Evans. D-Will shouldn't count as a 4, since he's played his best as a 3. So I count a total of (4) who play the 4 position, and Thompson plays some 5

Work some kind of trade. Moreland is the closest to a rim defender we've seen in awhile but our team salary has us painted into a corner.

For me, Evans is one of the most useful of our big guys. It would be the easiest to make happen, though. Acy, Thompson, or Landry would bother me the least.

I agree, but you usually have to give up something of value in order to make room for other value. I'd like to keep Evans, Acy, and it's looking like Moreland

I know I wrote this elsewhere but as we own the Bighorns, can't we sign Moreland to a contract with the Bighorns with no effect on the Kings salary cap problems? A Bighorn salary would not be added to the Kings salary. He might need to be in Reno at least temporarily anyway and it would allow the FO plenty of time to figure out the situation where we have an over abundance of PFs and need another PG.

We don't own those players rights unless they are signed to the kings

There might be some concerns of circumventing the CBA: typical salary in D-League is not more than $100,000, so signing him to something close to NBA veteran minimum might look like trying to go around the spirit of CBA. Plus if Moreland proves to be useful, you can always dump Outlaw for a smaller expiring adding cash and getting team salary just enough under LT boundary to fit rookie minimum.
