Still thinking about how extraordinarily bad the band was? who the hell wants to listen to that, it had rap and techno sounds with a dude that looked like he was from good charlotte singing stuff that sounded like a sleeping cat.

Well maybe the sound wasn't that bad.. ;)

What the hell kind of band played before the dunk contest? Worst band ever, worst dresser ever worst voice ever
What about Corbin Blue (whoever the **** that is) for the rookie/sophomore game... That kid sounded like an 8 year old girl singing into her hair brush in the bathroom.

Probably the worst dunk contest I've ever seen.
That reward goes to the contest where JR Smith and Birdman took 5 minutes a piece to complete one dunk. The following year they added a time limit.

nba.com said:
Known as "The Birdman," Andersen brought more boos than cheers from the crowd. The former Nugget needed nine attempts before finally converting his first dunk, then six tries on his second.

I got the reason behind both of their last dunks. However I wasn't happy with either one:

Replays showed that Nate used his hand to spring off of Howard's back to make the dunk. Yes he dunked over Dwight Howard but needed "help" to do it.

In Dwight's case, having a 6-11 (or 7ft depending on whom you ask) definitely muscular guy to dunk from the free-throw line is good, but there had to be better.

I thought the dunk contest was very good. Nate's final dunk was really impressive and whole phone booth and Lex Luthor thing was really well done. I don't particularly like that the first round was obviously fixed to get them both into the second round. But overall, nicely done.

Kenny Smith is an idiot and a bad announcer. He spent the entire evening ragging on everyone, talking about how this player can't do "x" and that player can't do "y." After 30 minutes of telling him to shut up, I eventually had to mute the volume. Nice job trying to wreck the whole night with your negativity. Idiot.

Kenny's an idiot. Before he opened his big mouth in the 3 Point Comp, I was rooting for Rashard Lewis to win, but the supposed "know it all" Kenny Smith was so sure Rashard would in the final round. That made me root for Daequan Cook instead, and Thank
God he won. It certainly made Kenny shut up...

... up until the Dunk Competition anyways.

P.S. Both Dwight Howard and Nate Robinson's first dunk in the final round, made me convince their both not human. I couldn't believe how far Dwight's extention was. He's arm was like a mile away from the Rim! I also couldn't believe that nate's head was actually at rim level. I mean he's like 5'2!!! That was sick...!

I thought it was a weak contest this year .. same with the 3pt contest actually.

We need shooters in the 3pt contest IMO, not good players. No Granger, No Bibby, And Rashard Lewis has already been there 1000 times .. Give me house, Morrow, Reddick, ect ..

Dunk contest was horrible this year. I think Fernandez had the two most difficult dunks, along with howards oop off the side of the backboard. I mean, howard is huge, so he can dunk on a 12 foot hoop .. it looked so easy. Same with the FT line dunk. Im so sick of Nate, i feel like he does the same dunks ever year ... LBJ should be nice next year, they need to bring in VC aswell..

I remember reading somewhere on here that bibby was supposed to the 3pt contest. What happened?

And then I saw the highligts for the dunk contest. Pathetic. What was Howard thinking using the extended rim and only doing a regular dunk? He should have windmilled it. That would have been awesome!

Dunking on a 12' rim is hard enough, I thought it did it's job even though it should have been saved for the final round... I don't think he wanted to win it this year , just wanted to entertain the crowd. I'm sure next year with Lebron in the field it'll be a much more exciting event

The dunk contest blew. I mean, it would have been a well and good contest had it not been for the huge standards '08 set. I mean, there was no dunk this year as good as the cupcake dunk last year, and that was the 3rd or 4th best dunk of the 08 contest!

It felt rigged too. Especially with Nate leaving after his second dunk. The final two should have been Rudy and Dwight. Rudy's dunks were impressive. Also, please, no more JR Smith in the dunk contests again. Please.

Smith and Miller destroyed the dunk contest. Worst commentating since Tim Hardway.

that was one of the weakest dunk contests i've ever seen. Jr Smiths first double bounce windmill dunk was so underrated, Dwight didnt do anythign special, rudy had a nice tribute dunk but it was an easy dunk .. Robsinsons dunk over dwight was pretty sweet tho. I dont think Dwight deserved 50's for his dunks.

And yah reggie and smith were terrible

When Kenny Smith said Dwight was the only person in the room that could dunk on 12 feet I laughed out loud. LeBron can dunk on 14 feet, probably 15.

And how annoying was the "Bibby is just one step out of his range. If he could just take one step in he would be in his range. If this was a college 3pt contest Bibby would be in contention, because he's one step out of his range. He just needs to take one more step to get in his range. See, he's missing a few shots, he's outside of his range. One step outside of his range to be honest. Oh did I mention yet that Bibby is one step out of his range?"

Kenny Smith, you are an idiot.

15 feet? LeBron's standing reach measured out before the draft at 8'10.25". Let's just round that up to nine feet. That would mean he'd have to have a SIX FOOT vertical. That's 72 inches. Freak athletes have verticals of about 40 inches.

I believe LeBron could dunk on 12 - it would require about a 36 inch vertical, maybe a bit more. 13 would be pushing it to the limit, with a 48+ inch vertical. The highest ever measured at the pre-draft camps (according to DraftExpress) is 45.5 inches, but LeBron wasn't tested on the max vertical, so I guess it's plausible.

Ah yes, Smith is an idiot. The least he could have done is at least mention that Mike Bibby was possibly one step out of his range.

Stupid Kenny Smith.

Did any one notice Commissioner Stern on his cell phone looking a bit "stern" during portion of the slam dunk competition? Even one of the TV talking heads said something about maybe he had concerns about rules being broken and violations of the league insurance policy. Using a human prop to elevate or dunking at higher and higher rim heights might well be against NBA slam dunk competition rules or outside the bounds of safety. They also commented that all dunks had to be revealed beforehand and approved - thus might have been infraction as well.

Okay maybe I'm doing the opposite Kenny and exaggerating, but just how tall is the top of the backboard? Because I know LeBron can reach that. It's gotta be at least 13' right?

Well, the glass is supposed to be 3.5 feet high, but the rim isn't mounted exactly at the bottom, so I'd say it's about 13 feet at the top of the backboard.

He definitely didn't deserve 50 on his first one. Rudy's second 1 was way better than that n he only got a 42.

I thought Howard's 12' rim was a great idea and i loved it, but he should have raised it up to 13 or 14', I'd say he could still do it. Dwight's 3rd dunk IMO was the best of the night (off the side of the backboard) in a weak contest.

I think it should've been Rudy and Dwight in the finals, because Nate jumped off Chandler's back which was stupid, he may as well have used a ladder. I liked the kryptonite idea though. All in all, I think Dwight should've won, but he definitely should've saved the 12' rim for the 2nd round because he was gonna advance no matter what he did in the first round

Wait what did Devin Harris get the world record in? I wasn't paying attention.

Also Rudy's second dunk would have been a lot better if he didn't mess up 7 times before finally being able to perform it after the judges gave him one more chance after the clock expired. The best part was when he blamed Pau by pointing and giving him a thumbs down.

You could tell that it was most likely rigged from the start, especially when the judges gave Howard a 50 for his first dunk.

edit: He broke the record for fastest time it took to dribble across the court from one end to another.

Shaq between Dwight Howard's legs, hilarious.

Yes, there was very little to comment on, AFAIC. They were obviously having a good time, but once the West went on their big run, and got a huge lead, the game just became boring to watch. There were a few exciting plays, but mostly....ehhhhh! Could be why I found myself doing other things and only half watching the game.

I don't generally watch AS weekend. Didn't watch yesterday and only saw the beginning of the game today before I went to the store. I always thought it was rather snore worthy.
