Nate Robinson as PG in SacTown??

In todays NYPost, Marc Berman writes an interesting but quick note:

Nate Robinson was given his own Rangers' blue jersey in the locker room, with "Robinson'' stitched on the back. He'll look good in it in Sacramento next season. I do feel N8's played his final game as a Knick, though sources insist D'Antoni wants David Lee back.

I'm sure this is his own personal view. But is that all???? Just one isolated sentence. No backup, no info, nada. Might be an interesting solution as Robinson is a restricted FA. Who would Kings trade for him tho'? Beno stays for sure I think until Nate can take the starting PG from him.

Free Agent.

I like Robinson as a spark off the bench but not as a starter. If we could acquire him some how and get a true PG in the draft or in free agency we'd be set in the backcourt for a while.

Not Nate

I would much rather see Ray Felton taking over the starting role for a few years while we develop our late first round PG. He is still young (25?) and comes from a strong program. He is not a very good shooter yet, but he still has time to develop. His Assist-to-turnover ratio is over 2.4-to-1. It is not great, but if this team picks up the tempo, that number would grow with out running bigs. Plus he is a great character guy who needs a fresh start in a new city. I agree that Nate is best suited as a microwave off the bench.

Hmm..wonder if Marc listens to Kings Talk with Koz and Henry...Koz brought up that scenario last night while throwing things out there.

A 5'7" shoot first PG. How does that help us? Don't get me wrong I like watching Nate, he's an exciting player, but he's not going to help this team much better.

Restricted Free Agent (FA). Meaning NY would want something for him.

The Knicks won't match a $7 million per offer on Nate, a sum which would endanger their chances in the 2010 free-agent sweepstakes. It would appear Donnie Walsh has a plan to return his team to contention. If we fail to coax Hedo from Orlando, I fully expect the Kings to make a move on Spud version 2.0.

"How will this help us win games?" That's not the point at all. This would be a transparent ploy to put butts in seats.

Nate would be a good 6th man type. but then again so is Cisco. So is Nocioni...we've got a lot of good 6th men. Unfortunately too many of them are our starters. But if we had a real starter, Nate's change of pace of the bench is classic 6th man stuff. Problem is that he's still a nut, got ot put up big numbers in the junkball system, and so is probably looking for a big score/starting spot.

Your surely not suggesting that we offer Nate 7 mil a year, are you? What we need is a good starting pt guard. We already have a backup. I'd much rather go after Ramon Sessions or Raymond Felton. They both have bigger upsides. Both figuretively and literally.

Not at all. It's just what I expect to happen.

There's been speculation that Petrie was interested in Nate, and further speculation that New York will try to move him this summer so they can re-sign David Lee and still go after the big 2010 Lebron-Wade-Bosh bonanza. All this article is really saying is that Nate is probably going to be gone next year. Sacramento, in this instance, is where he gets dumped so that New York gets it's way. That's how it always is with NY media. The rest of the country exists to serve their interests as "the greatest city in the world". Nate's not really a PG and the last thing we need is another no-defense scorer in our backcourt. I wouldn't read too much into this as far as Sacramento is concerned. Remember how many times Ron Artest was supposedly getting traded to the Knicks? Yeah, didn't happen did it.

It depends on what we do in the draft but he is a pretty underrated player. I'd rather spend the money on a guy like Hedo or Dre Miller though. I've always liked Nate Rob though.

There were rumors GP wanted Robinson before, especially when shopping Artest. But Lee was the deal breaker according to the rumors.

That was then, and this is now. Our situation has changed since then. Were not trying to unload Artest at any cost.

This is also the way I see it. Lets actually get our star player and then worry about role players. We need some talent at the top, not on the bench and Nate is not really a starter on good team.

This isn't the NFL. You can sign a RFA and the other team either chooses to match or not. If they match then they keep the player, if they don't then they lose him. This isn't the NFL where they get a pick designated by the tender they put out or whatever.

I actually wouldn't mind Felton if we end up drafting a big with our first pick. I was actually anti-Felton last year, but I'll give him credit, he improved greatly last season on both sides of the ball. If he continues to improve his outside shot, he can be a very good PG.

Ricky Rubio or Ramon Sessions.

The best thing that could possibly happen for the Kings this offseason is drafting Blake Griffin and signing Ramon Sessions. Personally, I'd rather have Sessions right now than Rubio anyway. He's young and somewhat proven. He has shown that he can put up ridiculous numbers when given the minutes at point guard. He's already been in the league for a couple of years. With Rubio, we might have to wait 2-3 years before he got up to speed and I don't think Kings fans want to endure anymore 17 win seasons.

PG-Sessions/Beno
SG-Martin/Cisco
C-Hawes/Thompson
PF-Griffin/Thompson
SF-Noccioni/Cisco

That would be your main core and then you would have 2 other rookies and possible a McCants or another role player. That team would be fun and exciting to watch. I still don't think they would make the playoffs next year, but I think they would be set to make their playoff push the year after with another lottery pick and more experience.

if that 17 win season would bring us a future draft pick like john wall and that the young players are getting their minutes.. growing and brick keeps posting those pretty ladies with grades.. i dont mind.. i want to see a more grand picture..

for the kings

I, personaly wouldn't mind going through another season like last, especially if it netted another very good player. Hell, I've got nothing better to do anyway. Besides, it makes for good conservation on the fourms. I doubt the majority of people share my feelings though.

Long term, it would probably make the franchise stronger. In the short term, we would have to endure spectulation from all corners about the Maloff's finances and how they may have to move because of the lack of bodies in the seats

another bad season with players growing and maturing would definitely work for me too.. would test kings fans.. and have so much to talk about your right on that.

a short term quick fix would just give us short bursts in the playoffs then sink back to mediocrity...

for example hawks getting a lot of consecutive high picks are finally paying dividends. we just got 2 lottery picks in the last 2 years..this will be our third.. i wouldnt mind a 4th just to fill the team with cheap.. high potential talent.. than vets

I don't often disagree with you but I completely and totally and 100% think you're out of your mind.

The Sacramento Kings fanbase - the ones who actually pay for the tickets - could not survive another year like this year. And the Maloofs are going to do everything they possibly can to ensure it doesn't happen - as well they should.

The cerebral stuff about making the franchise stronger looks good until you think about it. The franchise would have to SURVIVE first, and another year like this year might well sound a death knell for the Kings in Sacramento.

The fans made it clear when they came out in droves to support the retirement of Vlade and Webb's jerseys. They'll cheer for effort and they'll put up with losses IF the team is working towards a goal. You aren't going to get a lot of fans who will be willing to endure another losing season just for the potential of a lottery pick...again.
