MTV's Video Music Awards

VERY good show so far, and I'm not a fan of most MTV offerings.

I don't know the names of most of the people on the stage, but I'm really enjoying the talent.

Much better show than I would have thought possible.

:D

"i just wanted to let the fans at home know that i feel incredibly safe with all the security provided by G-Unit" HAHAHA!!!! JOE GOT AT EM!

our culture is so visually obsessed that mtv has to give awards for best music videos. what ever happened to appreciating musicians for the music they make? even the grammy's is more or less about what you wear.

regardless, mtv is bad for you. go elsewhere for aurul consumption. there is much greater satisfaction in discovering a band on your own...rather than just buying into what mtv promotes; which is, for the most part, utter crap.

i loved the biggie tribute........ it was nice..... they need to do the same for pac though

Padrino -Simply watching the video award show, which has been amazingly well produced for an awards show BTW, doesn't mean I've bought into squat. I'd like to think I'm smart enough not to be fooled into buying something just because I saw it on TV.

Much like a lot of other appreciative threads around here, if you're not into this one, why not just leave it for those who might actually have comments?

i wasnt directing comments directly at you. it was more of the collective "you," if you know what i mean. and i think its pretty valid to provide a grievance related to the subject of a particular thread. there's counter-arguments for everything...and i feel strongly enough about this one to post a counter-argument of sorts. mtv has gone out of its way over the years to move the emphasis of their programming away from music. i have my own issues with the kind of music mtv does support, but i'm not making it a personal issue. i am more concerned and angered that music, in general, is no longer the focus. instead, mtv glorifies "pimping rides" and "punking celebrities." the vma's is a well-produced award show that attempts to get back to the root of things...but still allows itself to become too distracted. thats my view...and i think enough people might agree that its valid to place in this thread, rather than create an anti-mtv thread. ;)

I guess I'll never know then... I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for a picture and I don't want to "google" it until I'm done watching the show. I absolutely HATE knowing the winners ahead of time.

:D

Um, okay...

I'm just talking about a video awards show, for Pete's sake. Sorry if it got you all hyper or something.

My comments are because I have watched this show before and been shocked at some of the stuff going on. This year's show, IMHO, was a pretty drastic departure from some of the stuff of the past. I'm not a hip-hop fan; I'm not an MTV fan. I am, however, a music fan of some 50+ years. As such I'm enjoying the show...

Silly me. I didn't think it through enough to consider all the nuances.

i just cant stop laughing at this picture...... i guess we can go back to callin him Lil Bow Wow

The Killers were hilarious, with whatever drugs they were on. Who was that on the bagels?

A live rendering of R Kelly's rap opera? Why?

The show just seemed absurd to me. Like one giant bad joke. No offense to anyone who enjoyed it, just my opinion.

i really dont think my post impeded your talk of the awards show. it has yet to spurn other comments of negativity towards mtv...so maybe i am alone in my opinion. however, considering this is a public message board where we discuss and debate various subjects, i thought it appropriate to include an alternate opinion on mtv's programming and their methods of programming. if i have in any way offended you or come off as "hyper," i apologize. i thought my statements were relatively well articulated for 10:30 at night, and i thought they were relavent to an extent. i wasnt trying to create a citizen uprising against mtv and the culture it supports, but i am a musician of the past 4 years, and a lover of music for life. my opinion is in no way superior to everybody else's because of that, but my background does afford me with a passion for the subject, and i tend to get very involved and forceful when it comes to musical discussions. again, i apologize if my insight was unwarranted or at the very least unwanted. i shall take my comments elsewhere if this is the inappropriate place for them.

Padrino -

Dude, I started a simple little thread to comment on an award show and next thing I know you're coming on really strong against MTV. Talk about a buzz kill...

It's not about it being a public message board or anything as deep as that. It's simply that you really took the wind out of my sails. I don't watch MTV so perhaps I'm not privvy to all the things you find so offensive.

My post was ONLY about the award show and my mild surprise at how well done it was. Your comments IMHO were really way too heavy for what I was attempting to convey.

But it's all good. The show's over now...and I'll go back to watching CSI: Miami reruns.

no pics of Eva's swimsuit? I figured they'd be everywhere by now. Of course Shaq had to make an appearance:(. Wade should have done that one solo.

all the real hip hop fans know that 50 is a fake.... dude doesnt go anywhere without 10 bodyguards..... he reps NY but lives in Connecticut.... LOL! so when Joe said "id like to tell the people at home i feel so safe tonite with all this police protection courtesy of g-unit" it got under 50's skin..... and he got mad and started poppin off after his wack performance with Yayo..... im sure hes gonna lose a couple of deals after that one...... all in all 50 made himself, g unit and hip hop look real bad that night...... so round one goes to Fat Joe.... HAHAHHAHA

The nuances, posing, etc. were all lost on me. In fact, it looked pretty childish from an "outsider's" point of view. Almost as good as WWE - but not quite.

;)

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here fillmoe. Although 50 made himself look like an A**, Fat Joe has been claiming he's done with the "beef", he's gone on for months saying its childish and he's over it. Then what does he do, he goes on an awards show and pops off with some childish stuff towards 50. Both those guys are fools to me. Thank god for the underground scene.

And wonders if it is all staged for show, just like WWE and WWF.

The whole thing sounds really, really contrived, foolish, whatever... If people hadn't died over it in the past, I'd be positive it was all show.

If it's not all show, the guys involved are too stupid to be allowed out in public. All these contrived insults, etc. do not send a good message. They're bleeping millionaires; you'd think they could show at least a modicum of control and maturity.

IMHO the guy with the rainbow afro wasn't the only clown there last night.

50's a fake a$$. His first album was cool, but the new one sucks. I dunno what it is, but g unit as a whole just seems so fake to me. Yayo and buck the worst of them all. 50 couldn't stand how the attention was shifting to game. There's a good reason why it seems that game is the only talking trash cause he got to know the real g unit and found out how wack and fake they are. When yayo was in jail, game had a homie in there that watched out for yayo. When yayo got out, and then that other foo got out he tried to contact yayo, and guess what happened next. No answer.
