Who are we going to sign using the MLE this year?

Or heck, what position will we try to fill with it?

DON'T USE THE MLE.

We don't need another mediocre player wrecking our roster/salary situation. Mediocre players don't help you win championships, they just stop you from getting a good draft pick and take up about 5 million dollars. Evidence: SAR, Salmons.

Good question.

I would actually prefer we did not use it all thise year unless we can get some young guy. Last thing we need is another long term veteran contract on the books.

So I'd offer it to guys liek Darko and Varejao, who will want more. then maybe stat to split it and make smaller offers from it for guys liek Blatche or Amir. But if you can't rbing any kids with potential home with it, I do not see the point in adding another veteran contract to a young team in flux.

Thats my thinking as well.

Offer it to Darko and Varejao but you not likely to get one of those since both will get more somewhere else.

I am intrigued by Amir and Blatche. Would prefer Amir to Blatche but thats just a matter of opinion. Both of those are RFA so we would have to make sure that we are offering more than their current team is prepared to match. Thats why I think Amir is more obtainable than Blatche.

If you are going to use it, the timing must be right. The ability to match on Justin Williams or Ronnie Price comes from having that money available or at least enough to cover whatever is offered.

Man, you know for the MLE I think you have to do that. I really do.

Not anymore. He's likely no more than an MLE signing for anybody. And not for us at this point. There was a time, when yep, made sense. Not in the midst of a youth movement when you just drafted a center and still have your old one at $10+mil. With the rapid decline in Magliore's play of late you could rapidly regret that signing.

It would be nice having Amir and Williams on the bench. Who knows maybe 1 day hopefully in the near they could replace SAR/KT and let those ride the bench until their careers are over with us.

Brevin Knight is who I'd like to use it on then look to deal Bibby for help at the 4 spot.

Don't know if I'd even want to spend the whole MLE on him, and definitely not a long term deal. Would sign him for 2-3 years to mentor Price and next year's draft pick, but much more as a stopgap if we shipped out Bibby than anything else.

If we could pull a Spurs and split it between two promising big men, sure. Otherwise, sit on it, shed some more salaries, and get under the cap to rebuild.
