The Ohtani talk is heating up. An article in The Athletic talking about possible teams acquiring him and what it might take.

Harrison was deemed not part of the deal but Luciano and Whisenhunt and Vaun Brown and possibly Matos were thought to be possibilities.

For one thing, unless Ohtani was locked up with a contract extension, there is no way I would do a deal.
Secondly, dealing Luciano would be really tough. But it’s baseball and how often does 1 guy make a championship contending difference? Look at SD and the Mets with all the high profile talent they have brought in.
You cant trade for Ohtani. Trading 2 of your top 5 prospects only for him to go to LA in the offseason would be absolutely devastating…. Give him a blank check this off-season and see what happens, but he’s going to LA. We’ve seen the free agent song and dance enough to know the result.

I think there is a shot he goes to Seattle assuming Seattle ponies up. Hell, SF better prepare a $650M package

Really no excuse for the Giants not to just write the blank check. They have as clean a cap sheet as you can get for a good team with only Webb as truly long-term money. And even if it's like a 10 yr/650 mil type deal... that's still honestly probably a value for him. Just hard to quantify how absurd it is that a top 5 hitter and top 10 pitcher comes in 1 dude.

If he goes to LAD, fine, whatever. But I'll be pissed if it comes out they offered $600 mil and we were at like $530 mil. That's inexcusable.

And yeah, absolutely no to trading him. One of the main reasons you go spend a half bill on Ohtani is to use him with all our young guys coming up right now. You want to add Ohtani to Webb/Doval/Matos/Bailey/Luciano/Wisenhunt/Harrison, etc. Not use 5 of them to go get a 2 month rental where you don't have the guarantee he re-ups.

Is Patrick Bailey’s defense tracking to be generationally good?! He’s absurd.
Pretty much. He leads MLB in basically every catcher defense metric, he guns down runners at like a 20% higher clip than average and the Giants pitching staff has roughly 1 ERA lower when he's catching.

Sucks Bart didn't work out, but Bailey is every bit the defensive savant that Buster was.

When was the last time that a team has been officially swept two times in two days? Giants swept by Nats yesterday and Detroit completes their delayed sweep today.

i was too young to watch Nen, but I think it's just about time to say Doval is the best reliver the Giants have had in a long-time.

Also... Luciano! Who cares if he's probably not ready, tired of watching Wisley ground out to SS every single AB. We need to get healthy.

Followed by Schmitt and Villar striking out in three pitches.

Yeah Villar probably isn't a MLB player, but I think we're really hurting Schmitt's development by leaving him up. We've needed him because of the middle infield injuries, but you also don't want to crush his development as a potential everyday player because his stick isn't ready.

100%
I’ve been on the “Send down Schmitt” bandwagon for awhile now… and it’s because I like him, and there’s something there. He still needs big work though. Hopefully this doesn’t set him back.
