Mitch Richmond 2.0

upinsmoke

All-Star
Whats up fellas just some of my thoughts. Who does "Havocs" game resemble most? in my opinion its gotta be "THE ROCK".

"The Rock" (summary)

Height: 6-5; Weight: 220 lbs
Drafted 5th overall

Honors: NBA champion (2002); All-NBA Second Team (1994, '95, '97); All-NBA Third Team (1996, '98); NBA Rookie of the Year (1989); Six-time NBA All-Star (1993-98); All-Star MVP (1995); Olympic gold medalist (1996); Olympic bronze medalist (1988).

"Tyreke Evans"

Height: 6-6; Weight: 220 lbs
ppg 21.0 rpg 3.9
Drafted 4th overall
PPG 20.3 RPG 5.30 APG 5.0

Honors: let the good times roll.

Mitch was a better outside shooter and Reke is a better slasher but not a bad comparison, I think. I think Reke can be better than Mitch when he develops an outside shot.

Completely different players in my opinion. It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. Richmond patented those toe on the line twos. 'Reke can barely make those shots and that's just the beginning.

i dont see it, they are the same height, weight and have similar stats but i just dont see it. tyreke is a pg, mitch wasnt... they have nothing in common.

but seriously, though their stats were similar... tyreke will probably be a much better player in the long run than mitch.

Apples are better on defense, but I prefer the all-around offensive game of the oranges, plus they seem like more natural basketball players...

Not even close! Mitch was a very good outside shooter, and a terrific mid-range shooter with his patented fall away jumper from the top of the key. The only similarities are the size and perhaps the ability to play defense. Mitch was a terrible passer and a fair to poor ballhandler. If Tyreke can master his mid-range and outside shot, then there will be no comparison at all. Mitch made the most out of what he had, but Tyreke's ceiling is much higher.

I like how you think. :)

Mitch Richmond and Tyreke Evans are not all that much alike as pointed out by others. Now, if you added a little bit of another part of original Run TMC crew, Tim Hardaway with his killer crossover - maybe that would be the ticket.

I don't know who in the NBA currently reminds me of Reke except if he continues to get better with a long injury free career, maybe Dwayne Wade - or close to him. For me, the rookies game of filling the stat sheets with 20-5-5, assorted double doubles or future triple doubles from PG position plus tough defense is reminiscent of Lafayette "Fat" Lever. In his mid-to-late 1980's hey day with Denver Nuggets he was one of the top PG's with amazingly consistent double doubles and many, many triple doubles. How many Kings fans even know that Fat was one of the greatest rebounding PG's in NBA history and many Denver fans will tell you the greatest Nugget ever - over Alex English - and pending a long glorious career by Melo. David Thompson not withstanding - but he was back in the 1970's and mostly their ABA days.

This part is just shameful and should be deleted.

Tyreke can be better, and with even a decent jumpshot will be better. Considerably better actually. Mitch was a star, one of the highest end "stars" of his era. But notice the lack of the "super" there. He was limited. Tough, rugged, very very good. But limited. He couldn't carry a team to anything much. He lacked that spark of true greatness. Mitch would be something like a Joe Johnson or Brandon Roy level player, better in come ways, but actually even less able to create for others. Which makes Reke actually a considerably more exciting talent. If he tops out at Mitch status that's pretty close to the very worst he could do.

When that jumpshot is MONEY, Evans will become one of the un-guardables. He will fall into a category which few have ever attained in the NBA. Players like Kobe, Lebron, Mello, and now Durrant can not be guarded by one man only! With an outside J, 'Reke will get open shots as players sag back to prevent his superior quickness. When they try to get up and contest the shot, he will drive by them for the layup or a sweet dish to JT, or maybe a kickout to Martin? Even a short corner 3 from Casspi (who every time I see him play gets better....Where are those Petrie basher anyway ???

When Martin and Garcia are BOTH Healthy, if they can stay off the IR, it will get really hard to guard the Kings. They will have a synergistic effect on the whole team. People have to guard Martin or he will rain baskets like a storm. Garcia is a great outside shooter too. I see Martin starting asap, but Garcia might have to work up win some playing time. But with:

Evans
Martin
Garcia
JT
Hawes (or better yet Brockman)

THAT team would be unstoppable!! Too many athletic shooters to guard. 'Reke can command a double team. From that point if players are getting open, they might get a wide open shot! I could easily see Martin scoring 30+ a night with Evans kicking the ball back out to him on the straight away 3 ball! Same with Casspi on the wing 3! In fact, I dont see any way our team doesnt get a lot better with those 2 in the lineup. Garcia is the emotional leader for this team! Him coming back in some ways is better than Martin coming back (although both are gonna be amazing!!)

So really the Kings need a trade to acquire a GOOD big man who can guard centers and play with his back to the basket for an inside presence. Petrie will get a killer deal or just wait for the draft. And our bench is WAY deep! Petrie is the Best GM in the NBA!

Beno - Sergio

Green - Casspi

Noche - Grene

New Player - Greene

Brockman - New Player

Beno, Sergio, Noche, Greene,

A VERY DEEP BENCH! And SO MANY options for PW to go big, small, and even large with a front line of Hawes 7'/JT 6'10"/Greene 6'11. I think that a free agent center who can guard and defend the rims, and that front line is athletic and can score. Casspi is a steal at 23 by Petrie again!! Brockman has embraced his role and he is contributing as a rookie. There are a lot of players that are playing their roles well! Beno is having his finest season at the PG position. Sergio has played very well. Udoka has given us some good minutes. And they are all only gonna get better. The biggest change will be 'Reke/Martin, the double team twins. Pick your poison. I think that those 2 will really give most teams fits !! GO KINGS !!

I agree with this, but as brick has said many times, we are already a good offensive team without Martin and Garcia. The problem with our team is on the defensive end, and without which every game would become a match of who misses more open shots. Not a very reliable way to win if you ask me.

I have a question, especially to the firm believers in Tyreke's future. How would you compare Evans' superstar potential to that of Kevin Durant?

I thought this thread was going to be about who we should trade for our next star big man because I sure don't see much in common between the Rock and Evans besides some random stat lines. :)

KD is probably two shakes away from being a superstar. Tyreke will eventually be considered one. Whats the question again?

Evans will never shoot as well as Richmond.

I'll take that bet. Jordan and Kobe were HORRIBLE jump shooters when they entered the league. I'm not neccessarily saying Evans will be Jordan or Kobe. Just comparing players that were/are very special players that could get to the rim at will, and had trouble with their jumpshots when they entered the league.

Evans has the same work ethic, the same "want" to be the best. He will work extremely hard on his shooting, guaranteed. I believe we see a noticeable imporvement even by next year, and it will just get better from there.

Even if you don't think he can be a point guard. He doesn't play much like the Rock. Best I can come up with is ... Tyreke = Micheal Ray Richardson - coke.

By any chance, could Tyreke Evans simply be the first Tyreke Evans?

I actually think there's a pretty good chance that's gonna be how he's looked at eventually. We have a great group of young players, some of whom are hybrids in that they're not easily stereotyped. A number of our players are multi-dimensional not only as to talents but to positions they're able to play. And that just might be the future of the NBA, as we're seeing fewer and fewer "pure" players.

You can add Dwayne Wade to this list too
