The following press release was just sent out by the Kings:

KINGS AND SEAN MAY AGREE TO CONTRACT IN PRINCIPLE

SACRAMENTO, CA ---- The Sacramento Kings and forward Sean May today reached an agreement in principle on a contract, it was announced by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are all excited to have him join the team,” said Petrie. “It’s a great opportunity for him and us as well. We look forward to this being a chance for him to combine his talent with his health and motivation.”

May amassed career averages of 8.5 points (.457 FGs, .333 3FGs, .760 FTs), 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game through 82 games with the Charlotte Bobcats in three seasons, sitting out the 2007-08 campaign due to injury. His best year, statistically, occurred during 2006-07 when he averaged 11.9 points (.500 FGs, .667 3FGs, .768 FTs), 6.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game over 35 contests.

The 13th pick of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Bobcats out of the University of North Carolina, May led the Tar Heels to the 2005 NCAA National Championship and was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

I hope Sean has a sense of humor...and that he realizes the minute he inks that deal he's got a fresh start here with Kings fans.

I wasn't very happy about the rumors but once he becomes a King all he has to do is show up ready to play every night, bring heart and hustle and show that he wants to be here and I think he'll do fine.

(And yes, I'm avoiding the obvious comment about staying away from Dunkin' Donuts. :p )

Let's hope he doesn't live up to his twitter name. ;) Amick said he'd lost something like 25-30 pounds. Let's hope he keeps that weight down. Keeping weight down will be imporatant for his knees.

Doug Christie said after his microfracture surgery (early in his career; pre-Kings) he made a point of taking off some weight off to ease pressure on his knees. Of course, Doug was and is a real health nut. I mean that positively. He really takes care of his body.

I think he'll be ok, the nearest Dunkin Donuts is in Reno, I believe, unless he gets demoted to our D-League team that is.

Of course, there have to be at least 20-30 donut shops in the greater Sacramento area
(Marie's on Freeport being one of the best ;), hint hint Sean).

Come out, give 100% every night and play solid when Hawes/Thompson are on the bench and I'm happy.

Welcome, Sean May.

Huh, odd, this was the original title of that article:

Sacramento Area Restaraunts Cheer the End of the Recession :p

Most of those in Sacramento are gone, too, aren't they?

Edit - yep - closest one is in Pinole, with others in the Bay Area as well.

ohh yeah, I live like an hour from Pinole and then there's also one in Daly City that is right next door to a In N Out.

If any of you know the local McDonalds franchisee, you may want to have him close all his stores by 11pm-no 24 hour locations. :D

What a horrible waste of money.

Let me get this straight. We gave Sean May the veteran's minimum on a one-year contract. Although he has had injury and weight problems, when he has played he has proven himself to be an average NBA player with reasonable potential. He is now at a good playing weight and appears to have rebounded from his knee surgery. We had not one but two roster spots to fill to merely get to the league-mandated minimum number of players (since Brockman is not yet signed), which means we had to spend the money anyway.

Sean may not be your first choice, but a "horrible waste of money"?

What number do you think they will give him? I hear he's been inquiring if Webber's number has been retired. We know it has, so I suggest he ask for #1. It's much more slimming.

yeah, but that was then. He wouldn't be able to compete with today's players.

Im right there with you. Does our management not see that one thing all the other top teams have in common is they dont have undersized bigmen? With the slight exception of Glen Davis, although what he lacks in height and length he makes up for in width. May is undersized and lacks the athleticism to make up for it. So then, how is may supposed to improve interior defense and rebounding? What exactly are the pros of signing may? Can anyone sell this to me?
