Martin at SF? (split from point guard thread)

I moved this into its own thread as it's a different topic than what's being discussed in the never-ending thread.

:)

Kevin Martin is not a SF by any stretch of the imagination. Look around at the other successful 3's in the league and you'll see he'd most likely be eaten alive.

wow... how often will this pop up around here? martin is the second lightest player on our team after sergio... he doesnt have the size to defend the position unless we play the warriors, suns, nets or grizzlies all season...

A sampling of some NBA small forwards aroudn the league:

I have occasionally been accused of not liking Kevin Martin, but I have NEVER tried to get him hurt.

thats only because he beats you to it... martin can get hurt all by himself, its a rare talent that i always assumed that only tall, goofy, whiteguys did, like ostertag or miller....

If we play him at the 3, we can have Reke guard the opposing SF. Beno can guard either the PG or SG, and Martin....Well, we all know Martin cant guard anybody :p

...I'd still rather trade him for a young big or maybe use him to move up in the draft come this summer (as I dont think we're a lock for a top 5 pick this season).

Portland is using a 3 guard starting unit with some success so far... As Gunks mentioned, Martin isnt a good defender no matter who he is on. I assume in this scenerio we have Mr. Wall on our team :)

Portland is a) desperate to get some value out of a terrible singign with Miller, and b) has a gigantic maneating shotblocking center duo to clean up the messes inside. Should also mention that c) its worked for about 3 games.

I've mentioned before the nuttiness in Kingsland, where we as a fanbase are almost softer than the soft little teams we get. Whenever we get any physical advantage at any position there is instantly a thread started proposing we pee it all away and play the guy out of position against bigger people so we can resume our accustomed pathetic 90lb weakling routine.

Its time to quit getting sand kicked on our faces.

+1.

This thread reminds me why I think Don Nelson ruined basketball. Kevin Martin is not a small forward; just because he could be considered tall enough doesn't mean he can play the position.

exactly... with that logic we might as well play evans at sf and greene at pf... oh wait...

the only succesful tweener SF in this day and time is maybe Tayshaun Prince and he is a great defender.

I think it's a good idea against certain teams.

C - Hawes
PF - Thompson
SF - Martin
SG - Tyreke
PG - Udrih

I like that Lineup but I like this better

C - Spencer
PF - JT
SF - Donte Greene
SG - Martin
PG - Tyreke

Thanks for the resize, Larry! :)

and why does Artest have his own name on his shirt? so he remembers who he is, of course.

Martin is not, will not be and has never been a small forward by any stretch of the imagination. Really...

Well, to be fair, we've seen him at SF for stretches. However, I don't recall it ever working in our favor...

And no, Martin is not a small forward. Even if he did bulk up to play the position (which his skinny frame simply won't allow), he'd lose his quickness, which is probably his most valuable talent. I'm okay with this. God forbid he ever get traded to Golden State, however.
