Maloofs on TNT

The Maloofs are not the most articulate folk. :)

They did say they didn't intend for Peja to find out the way he did and were sorry about it.

Do you really believe that is how they wanted this to go down? Jim Gray jumped the gun and broke the trade before it was finalized, which put everyone on the spot.

Anybody Have A Transcript Of The Tnt Interview? I'm Still At Work .....and Would Very Much Appreciate It! Thanks

I just listened to it out of the corner of my ear, but if you've read/heard anything said by them in the last day or two, you've already heard it.

Usual spin -- Peja will be missed, didn't mean to let the cat out of the bag on TV, Ron Artest said he wants to be a King, they're gamblers, etc.

I don't believe they meant for this to happen, but they are not blameless. They made it very obvious in the interview (the one that Peja was watching when he learned he was traded) that the deal was going to happen & that they were excited about it. A simple "no comment" would do.

In defense of the Maloofs.. I saw the press conference with Larry Bird and Donnie Walsh yesterday and they basically said that someone from their side was leaking information pretty much seconds after they said anything.

They were put on the spot. The interview wasn't set up to discuss Artest coming to Sac. The news broke during the interview and what else were they going to say?

The news broke way before the interview. You're reaching.

"No comment." or "Nothing is finalized, we will talk about it when it becomes official." Or, almost anything that doesn't involve going on & on about how great Artest is.

I'm not trying to trash the Maloofs, I just felt bad that Peja saw that interview... the Maloofs seemed downright giddy.

Not to their knowledge. The deal wasn't even finalized when it was reported. As I said earlier, Jim Gray jumped the gun.

It was no coincidence that the Maloofs were on ESPNews on the same day, during the same hour that the trade broke. Looking back on it, yeah, I'm sure they would have done it differently, but that's what was said about the whole Phil Jackson thing to. Before going on ESPNews, they should have spoken to Peja because it was apparent from that interview that both sides had agreed to the deal and it was pending league approval.

If someone was willing to pay me millions a year, they could hurt my feelings any time they wanted, with no complaints from me.

Exactly. They were so gushy about Artest, it was disgusting. Like they couldn't take a couple of minutes to at least make a phone call? Or call Rick or someone else and ask them to find Pedja and clue him in? Very poorly handled, IMHO. And after 7 1/2 years of loyal service, I think that is so little to ask. I hated the Webber trade, too, but I do remember that they had Adelman go to Chris's hotel room to talk to him.

Look, it's really a small thing in the big picture... but I'm just not going to be an idiot anymore as far as the Maloofs go. What they are selling I'm not exactly jumping out of my chair to buy if you know what I mean.

I think it's time for people to stop complaining about the Maloofs. Whatever they do it's not enough for Kings fans. They had the stones to trade for one of the best players in the league and make a serious gamble. They didn't have to take a chance -- they could have been content with mediocrity and just sucked the franchise dry. Instead they made a gamble to make the team better. Listen to Peja, he doesn't give a crap anymore about how it went down. Sure, unfortunate, also the way it goes. Everyone acts like the Maloofs kicked Peja's dog. They traded him. It happens. Long live the Maloofs!

no question

seams like we get something like this every year

BTW - who is next ?

obviously Bibby. He's the only one who's been here long enough for the fans to REALLY get attached to, so he must be the next to go.

Um, if they trade Bibby it will be because he sucks on defense, not because you're attached to him.

No, the gushy about Artest was the good part. Absolutely what you want to see with a new guy coming in.

Just the handling of Peja was the unfortunate part. Doubt they intended it that way, but have gotten the distinct feeling that guys on the way out are more a less just a footnote for us since they no longer are part of the future. As an organization we move on pretty quick.

Enough already, if it wasn't for Bibby we wouldn't have any kind of shot at all to get in the playoffs still, Artest or not.

That's easy to say. Money does not turn you into an emotionless machine. Richness does not make you immune to the emotional blows of life. (And more than one study have shown that happiness ceases to increase after about $60,000/year.)

Or the fact that he's a 6'2" SG.

:D

I didn't mean they shouldn't be excited about Artest. I just meant it was rather unseemly to let Pedja see that before you've told him he's gone.

Yeah but it sure does take some of the sting out of it. Peja seems fine now. If he's over it, we should be too.

Either it's all lies or I must be a GREEDY biznatchi!

Of course, I'm currently looking for a job in Hawaii and am willing to take a pay decrease to do it .... so maybe there is some truth.

But - if you want to pay me 1MM/yr to take insults ... I'd do it.

I couldn't agree agree with you more, and Bibby has played his way into my no-trade-zone these past 10 games. I was more commenting on the "woe is me--I hate the Maloofs--they're going to trade Bibby because I like him" tone of this thread. The Maloofs have basketball in mind. Some people are more concerned about "feelings" around these parts.
