well, if they really want the team out of there, i think they'll find a way to do it. i just don't think the vegas jackets are on that order of magnitude, though.
IMHO the $6,000 Burger is a far better symbol/metaphor for where things have gone wrong between Kings ownership and the common fan. The ASG and the stupid jackets will quickly be forgotten. While the jackets are an affront to my fashion sense it would be a real reach to be offended just for giving them out in town.
The Burger ad on the other hand is a constant reminder that "home" to the Maloofs is their casino in Vegas. Its a constant reminder that the signature brand of the Maloof family is the Palms. Its a constant reminder that in many ways the Kings are simply a marketing tool of The Palms. Then you have the burger itself - beyond the reach of most fans, especially those who remember the days when every seat in the arena was affordably priced and who are now stuck watching at home. I hate this ad, it makes me sick and I hope it goes away.
Yeah, there is this uncomfortable feeling brewing between the arena issues, the Maloof Vegas connection, and the poor performance of the team. I just don't think they get that.
Their insensitive mistake is thinking a struggling team and fan base is going to be happy about getting promo material pushed on them for a game that directly helps the owners financially but doesn't help the city and has no players participating. Add in the uneasiness with the team moving....it's not a huge deal, but it is annoying.
To be fair, K-Mart declined participation in the skills contest.
So we could have had a "representative". But that's not really the kind I'd like to see, myself.
And we all agree, the Kings have no player worthy of participation this year. Except, in an extremely political move, perhaps K-Mart. Although he'd probably rather not play anyway.
K-Mart was invited to the skills contest? Can I see an article or something? Last I remember K-Mart said was IF he was invited to any AS event he would turn it down.

I beg to differ on one account. The Sacramento Kings are the Maloofs Team. They own the team and ARCO arena. The Maloofs as others tried to indicate, are a major player in Las Vegas and George and the rest of the Maloofs were instrumental in helping the NBA put the All Star game there.
Jackets at a Kings game does not mean they are any less Kings fans than you and I. In fact, they are bigger than that, promoting the NBA as well as this All Star Game which happens to be in Las Vegas where they have become the unofficial hosts. Bigger name players see that and remember the Maloofs and their interests which can have a positive effect on getting some of those players to Sacramento. And in a small market the Kings need all the PR help they can get.
You also may not realize that the All Star game will not (can not) come to Sacramento due to the lack of first class hotel rooms. Sacramento, Milwaukee, Salt Lake City, Portland, and a few others, are all in the same boat. But their owners are not involved on a grander scale as our owners are. It's all good for Sacramento and the Kings.
And I take issue with your "Sacramento native" business. Are you implying that if we are not Sacramento natives that we are not as much Kings fans as you are? I started going to Kings games in 1989 and thru the really bad years before my business moved to the coast.
