Malone fired

theres a right way to do things and this is not that.

look getting karl and smith and pushing the tempo may result in more wins and get us into the playoffs but is it sustainable once we're there in terms of getting results.

small ball has never won anything and when push comes to show, defense and execution rule. our best player boogie is wasting away right when we finally were moving in the right direction.
Im getting sick of this too. "small-ball" or more aptly named "Match-up" basketball has dominated the playoffs the last 5 seasons. Miami basically had two bigs on their roster in there 4 year run into the finals. SA in the last 5 years basically has run Timmy with a bunch of swing guys/stretch 4's the last 5 years. OKC may start with a real C, but 95% of the time at the end of games, they roll with Westy-6th man (Martin, Jackson in recent years)-shooter-Durant-Ibaka. Golden State is currently destroying everyone with "small-ball." Houston since they acquired Harden has been a top 7 team in the NBA, although haven't had success in the playoffs.

That's complete nonsense IMO.

I read both basketball and soccer forums from here to Italy and what's the common denominator across the landscape? Fans ***** and moan. Constantly. Here it's a lot more tepid than elsewhere. I also haven't seen a single fan calling for Malone to get fired. Criticism? Of course, but if that criticism effected our FO, while they ignore the constant criticism of our squad's overall lack of talent, they're in well above their heads.
Maybe not in those words, but there've been people talking about "If we had a real coach" type talk. That's fire the coach talk to me.

It was heard. Man, that interview convinced me.

Noticed he mentioned fans, players and the front office as people who want to win badly. He did not mention the coach.

He almost sounds near tears. Weird stuff.

It does sound like he reads message boards. Well, folks, you got what you wanted. The constant talk of how horrible Malone is was heard.
A coach not wanting to win now that's the dumbest thing I've heard.

We can't blame the fans for them wanting to fire malone and this butthead doing it. I'm a diehard patriots fan after our 2-2 start there were threads calling for Billicheck to be fired and we actually had real expectations not delusional ones. Threads of Tom Brady should be traded he's washed up. Thank god we don't have these jokers running the pats cause then Brady would be in Houston and Billicheck would be fired.

Moral of the story you don't listen to the fans.

what we need here is a dam forum or representative to speak for us which is what they have to an extent in overseas football.

liverpool football club often meet with the spirit of shakley - the supporters group and when they were ownership issues years back they were often consulted and at the very least given a forum where they could express their opinion.

we need something of the sort, we are a small market team with the most passionate fan base, and we do not talk out of our ass's, we are key stakeholders and deserve the right to air our opinions here - this isnt that BS we pay so we should have input argument, its good business and if vivek wants to be so revolutionary embracing the fan base prior to growing it globally should be priority. As a side note we need a dam media willing to call out and call a spade a spade and actually question our ownership and team. Accountability as a concept should be embraced and the media needs to do a better job questiong it.

To me it'd seem to lend credence to the report Vivek/PDA wanted to fire Malone since last summer and were looking for any opportunity.

Falling back on a pocket of fans "maybe" referring to wanting the coach fired is a weak, fallback excuse from where I'm sitting. And if PDA did listen to complaints from fans, the team would look a fair amount different than it does.

Wow! Just heard the news!
I'm trying not to overreact but wth are Kings' FO thinkin'? This team is clearly overachieving while playing such a tough schedule!
Wow! I'm shocked...

And with the exception of SA, none of those teams had a bruising big man as their cornerstone. If we had dominant swings, PGs I'd have no problem with our bigs being a few shot blockers to anchor the d. But that isn't the roster or style that makes sense for our team.

People like you love to use that argument while ignoring the fact that teams that have played that style of ball and don't feature the top "littles" in the league pay a price in the form of many losses.

Why does miami even count as an expample. They had freak wing players who can play multiple positions that no team will ever have. Wade/lebron

I'm absolutely shocked by this. I didn't agree with everything Malone did, but he was the best coach we had in a long time. We may or may not have made they playoffs this year, but it felt like things were going in the right direction. It felt like we finally had some stability after years of uncertainty. Now I don't know what to think. I really really hope we don't try to play small ball or any other gimmick ball. We have one of the best bigs in the game. We're uniquely equipped to punish small ball teams, we shouldn't try to join them.

I don't even want to watch the next Kings game now. It just feels gross. I had a feeling from the beginning that Malone wasn't going to be a particularly popular coach with certain kinds of fans. He's not outgoing or outwardly enthusiastic and he doesn't orchestrate offense all that well. But I liked him right away because he radiates integrity and he knows how to teach defense. And this team was badly in need of both of those qualities. Hiring Malone in the first place was the single decision which allowed me to forgive Vivek's more outrageous basketball-related ideas because I knew he had a basketball lifer on the sideline who believes in defense and fundamental basketball down to his core. Now that the only voice I agreed with has been kicked out of the front office, I can see things going downhill in a hurry.

We had a clear path forward yesterday -- find a couple key guys to make the bench unit functional and keep working on building chemistry together as a unit. What now? I don't even know where the arrow is pointing anymore. All signs are it's pointing in the direction of zero defense gimmick-ball and that makes me sick. I do know that it gets harder and harder year after year with every bad decision for me to continue caring about this team. PDA says he genuinely does read and care about what the fans think? Well I've been a fan of the Kings since I was 10 years old and I feel like I just got punched in the face. Thanks a lot guys. From where I'm seated, I think you could probably stand to care a good deal less about the loudly outspoken and obnoxious minority who love to make their opinions known but don't know the first thing about what it takes to win a basketball game.

malone is going to make a killer assistant coach out there for someone, and will most likely get a head coaching gig somewhere down the road.
Most likely pretty quickly in fact.

Our idiots in charge are the only ones who view him as a failure here.

Actually even that isn't right -- they used this whole thing as a pretext. This wasn't about Malone "failing" to win games. This was about a basketball lifer not kissing ass to the bunch of ridiculous amateurs calling themselves his "bosses". He wouldn't play 4 on 5 on defense so Vivek could sell his boy Sim to India. He didn't play PDA's kid he knew since childhoo0d enough. He didn't magically make Vivek's Stauskas pick look good. He wasn't playing the soft and asinine Basketball (IQ=)3.0 piece Derrick Williams enough. Hell, he had the audacity to have the team leading the league in rebounding, free throws shot, and start playing some defense. Can't have that if you are going to be a smallball reared basketball vidiot. Must run n gun and duck and chuck jumpers and more jumpers! Yay! Because ducking and chucking = more points! And that's what fans want! More points! Scoring and points and runnign and scoring and yay! Yay! I'm a ****ing moron! Yay!

We were a 2good bench players away and boogie not getting sick and we make the playoffs this year. No doubt.

That IT tweet speaks volumes.

Would really not be surprised if Vivek eventually winds up coaching this team at some point in his tenure as chairman of the team.
Or he might try crowdsourcing. Let fans in the Arena vote for substitutions and which play we should run next. Just put up a screen by the bench to inform players about each decision.

This has to be the oddest firing in the NBA in many many years.

The Kings show signs of relevancy for the first time in forever, and our management responds by firing the coach? Firing the coach? Not praising him for the clear improvment overall? Wtf?

Lack of player development? How about Cousins? Rudy? DC? All putting up career best numbers. Ben. He even has JT making an impact.

That play with Nik, was that Malone trying to please his bosses by "developing" Nik? Was a suggestion made by the FO to put Nik in that kind of situation? I now wonder, that's for sure. Was he told to give Nik crunch time experience?

So he couldn't turn that turd dwill into anything? Who could?

If pda is listening, he's about to see he badly misread the situation. Fans were upset at the losing, angry even, frustrated, but no one was calling to fire the coach. No one with a clue what they were talking about anyway. The reaction here seems to be almost completely shock, not happiness.

The day when the internet trolls rule the world is upon us. God help us all.

When your ownership acts like impulsive fans, you're in real trouble. Vivek might hear some boo birds Tuesday if he shows his face.

The honeymoon is over.

For Pete it's all about deflection. Now if Corbin plays the way his owner and GM want and it fails, then I can't see PDA lasting past the summer unless Vivek still has the love jones for 'ol Mully.

Damn, what a shocking morning for me! I remember everyone was considering him as the true reason of Warriors's success behind Mark Jackson's.
Clippers should sign Malone IMO. Chris Paul would be happy with him as the assistant.

Wow, I just can't accept this.

Well the IT tweet is interesting again, because as I've said we've had multiple actors, and trying to line up which ones I would kick in the balls right now if I saw them, and which ones are rational basketball people is a bit difficult. Malone was the only one I was willing to bet on.

Here are actors:

Vivek
Mullin
PDA
Malone

here are moves demanding accounting:

draft Thompson (Petrie)
draft Cousins (Petrie)
hire Malone (Vivek)
extend Cousins (Vivek/possibly Mullin)
draft McLemore (Mullin maybe)
draft McCallum (PDA maybe)
let Reke walk
dump Robin Lopez on Portland rather than take him back in the Reke trade
pursue Igoudala hopelessly
sign Landry (Malone probably)
trade 2nds for Mbah a Moute
trade Mbah a Moute for Williams
trade a stack of players for Gay, Acy, Gray
trade Thornton for Evans + Terry
release Jimmer
draft Stauskas
sign Collison
let IT walk
various moves to clear out Outlaw, Acy (likely PDA maneuvering, maybe Vivek needed financially, dumping stretch types though?)
sign Corbin
sign Casspi
sign Hollins
sign Sessions
sign Moreland
fire Malone

IT's little tweet, aside from expressing the general NBA response, would seem to indicate that whoever let him go would not necessarily be the same guy who fired Malone. Or at least if it was, it came as a surprise to Isaiah. I generally assumed PDA was the guy behind the Collison for Isaiah switch. Malone and IT had too good of a relationship for Malone to be secretly backstabbing him. Our owner is too big of an amateur to overlook IT's scoring for the backup PG from the Clippers. And as much of a blight as the Nellieballer might be, I don't think he can express his power but through Vivek. Add that all up and you begin to wonder if Vivek is not only inexperienced, but petulant and knee jerk too, because it suggests he may have been behind not only canning the very coach he hired after the most successful start the franchise has had in 9 years (not that Vivek knows Kings history), but it suggests that he and his sidekick were thinking about doing that as early as this summer.
