Malone fired

Except he's literally more Malone that Malone was. If Michael Malone was 100% Mike Malone, then Jeff Van Gundy is 200% Mike Malone. No one can ever accuse his teams of being "fast-paced and exciting"
And the silly thing is that Corbin's philosophy isn't that different than Malone.

I know. I'm confused and half-awake and grasping at straws.

Yeah, we played Williams so we'd lose and we could blame it on Malone.
I think people mad for rotations should be mad at the owner, not Malone. The whole coming out in favor of Williams thing in the pre season, I don't think that was Malone's idea. Malone almost immediately benched Williams for Casspi, then suddenly that changed, Casspi was hurt, and now the coach is fired.

I don't think any of that was Malone's idea.

It seems like a large number of people were annoyed if not angered at how the team was losing even against the crappy teams. I bugged out cause pissing and moaning without presenting a solution turns me off. Well, Vivek may be trying to please us. He may very well have listened to the never ending complaints by the fans. So he did something.

It may be the proper decision. What I don't like about this is that he seems to impulsive. He hires a coach and then a GM - backwards and impulsive if you want my opinion. This better work. Even if there were flaws in Malone, at the same time the franchise was developing a decent reputation. How on earth did we get through November with a lousy coach. Should we have done better? I hope he hasn't screwed it all up as this is a major risk.

Well now we know why Casspi wasn't playing.

PDA/Vivek traded for Derrick Williams. Sources cited lack of player development. Derrick Williams comes to mind.
I thought this was known long ago.

I seriously wanna see the players faces right now. Boogie probably got sicker from this crap. WE FIRED A COACH CAUSE HE WANTS TO PLAY A STYLE SUITED TO HIS BEST PLAYRS. Let that sink in. Memphis did this exact thing and sucked and went back to play playoff ball.

People were pretty clearly calling Malone all kinds of things for not playing Casspi lately. If that was the owner and GM's idea, then the idiot in the situation is the owner and GM, not the coach.

PDA's radio talk Friday is bizarre. When he talks about the pg situation, it's clear he's frustrated with Malone's handling of the minutes. But he talks about how much he likes Ray AND Sessions. He just goes all over the place on the fact they can all play the one or two. Then why draft Nik? Where did he think minutes were going to come from or how their skill sets would compliment the roster?

I'm inclined to think that someone high up (maybe PDA) really didn't like Malone's coaching for a while now and has pounced on the opportunity to rid him. If that person is indeed PDA, I also like to think he already has a replacement coach in mind. Someone that he thinks can take this team to another level. So I am at a wait-and-see mode.

I don't see the Cousins/Gay angle here. I don't see why they'd be too broken up about it. If Malone had taken this team deep into the playoff and had developed some gravitas then I can see the franchise players may not be too thrilled about the firing; but at the end of the day, Malone is still a young coach trying to establish himself. He has done a great job imo, probably the best coach since Adelman; but I just don't think he is at that level of respect yet. Although I would not be surprised if someday Malone does become a great coach. I think the FO can easily sell their new coach to Cousins/Gay. I see no problem with the two stars buying into the new coach's philosophy as long as it makes sense.

Lastly, PDA has made some unpopular choices in the past - letting Reke go, letting IT go, signing Casspi, signing Collison. Btw, I do concurred with almost all of his decisions so far. This is the first time that I am not exactly sure he is doing the right thing. But I am going to wait and see what transpire. Coach Karl, Coach Sloan, Coach Webber? We will soon find out.

Pete mentions that he knows fans are frustrated by wanting to win and that he reads stuff. If you (or anyone else connected to the team) are reading this Pete, I hope you'll understand that the fanbase wants to win but not at the cost of knee jerk reactions to style over substance.
What nba FO listens to it's fans.

Noticed he mentioned fans, players and the front office as people who want to win badly. He did not mention the coach.

He almost sounds near tears. Weird stuff.

It does sound like he reads message boards. Well, folks, you got what you wanted. The constant talk of how horrible Malone is was heard.

His player management was better if I remember correctly. Man there has been a lot of confusing info coming from the FO.. And finally, how often does a team and its coaches have Achilles problems? I'm beginning to doubt this is real. Not that it makes any difference bur while Vivek is flitting about the world, ahhhhh never niind! I don't know what to believe.

theres a right way to do things and this is not that.

look getting karl and smith and pushing the tempo may result in more wins and get us into the playoffs but is it sustainable once we're there in terms of getting results.

small ball has never won anything and when push comes to show, defense and execution rule. our best player boogie is wasting away right when we finally were moving in the right direction.

PDA definitely emphasized the fact that they (FO) are listening to us and "reading" our stuff. I really hope we didn't play a role in Malone's firing, as crazy as it sounds.
More teams should listen to the fans. Oh wait that would mean derrick rose would have been traded last week, bosh would gave been traded in the 1st year of the big 3, and many more ludacris things.

I don't know. A lot of the criticism (and Utah fans would know better) was that he played slow, uninspired offense and didn't develop their young talent. Basically the same reasons being suggested for firing Malone.

Why would you let go of Reke and IT if you want to play fast paced up tempo basketball that's what's confusing to me now. I thought we were building around Cousins and now all of a sudden it's small ball. None of the moves we have made make any sense in playing small ball if in fact that's what we wanted to do. Gay and Cousins are not small ball/up tempo players and while Darren Collison is great on the break I think he's more imporant in the half court for us. Also we brought in Carl Landry one of the least athletic 4's in the NBA and Reggie Evans is not a small ball guy either.

Aside from Mclemore/Williams/Collison not one else on the roster is built for small ball and all the guys that were built for it Patterson/Reke/Thornton/IT/Jimmer we traded away to get these guys.

Ding, ding, ding. I've been harping on this for the last year and a half. The total lack of a strategy when it comes to roster management. And when we've finally started to win by playing smash mouth defensive basketball featuring the guy best suited to that in possibly the whole league, we scrap a coach suited for that style in order to pursue Nellie ball.

That's complete nonsense IMO.

I read both basketball and soccer forums from here to Italy and what's the common denominator across the landscape? Fans ***** and moan. Constantly. Here it's a lot more tepid than elsewhere. I also haven't seen a single fan calling for Malone to get fired. Criticism? Of course, but if that criticism effected our FO, while they ignore the constant criticism of our squad's overall lack of talent, they're in well above their heads.

you have to look at the ben draft pick to realise vivek wanted this all along. it was his first team based decision and we all know we more or less selected him. viveks ethos is personified by ben - quick, athletic and can shoot. its small ball time

Cause IT and Tyreke are seen as selfish, not ball movement types. Of course neither are Landry and Williams.
