Make yourself heard at Thunder Game

I don't think it's that simple. Let's assume for sake of argument that had Cousins not fallen ill we would be 15-9 under Malone. It's perfectly plausible that the front office believes that under a coach that ran a more uptempo system, that would be 17-7. Would that fall under the category of caring how you win or caring how much you win?

There seem to be two alternatives here. Either:
1) The front office fired Malone because they thought an up-tempo game would result in more Kings wins, or
2) The front office fired Malone because although they thought an up-tempo game would result in fewer wins, they sure love watching fast breaks.

I have a very hard time believing that they think #2.

Great, so you believe the front office is a bunch of blithering idiots too?

Glad to have you on board! Being ****ing ignorant of NBA basketball and waving around magic numbers, which they haven't done BTW, would be just as bad. Ignorant people are bad enough. Ignorant people who don't know they are ignorant are the really dangerous ones.

You guys can say what you want, but Malone was fired because he refused to be their lap dog. The man had class and integrity, and I think not many people stand up to Vivek and say "No, I refuse to go along with this" multiple times. Not only did he not go along with it, but he went in the opposite direction, playing defense and doing it his way. He made mistakes that I jumped all over at the time, but his team was following him through thick and thin.

It may be true that they didn't like Malone's approach and thought they could do better, but I don't think it was the primary reason for termination. Otherwise, they would have fired him earlier in the season or in the offseason, but how do you justify it after a 5-1 start? You can't. So they waited until we had a losing record, thinking everyone would agree and say "yes, that makes sense." Only no one did. We had more attention this season than in a long time, so people knew Cousins wasn't playing, which is what the media used like an axe against PDA (deservedly so). I think Vivek realized that he had hired a man that put up with no bullcrap, including Vivek's, so he had to go. Vivek doesn't surround himself with folks smarter than he is (no one is smarter), he surrounds himself with people that do what he says (yes men), because it's always worked for him. Except now, because he does not know basketball. Only he doesn't know that yet.

Malone's days were most likely numbered from the first time he disagreed with Vivek. In this entire mess, this is the most pressing issue. An all too eager owner thinking he is doing a great job and already has a great team (he doesn't), when all he has accomplished thus far is hiring and firing the coach that had us off to our best start in years in an entirely unprofessional manner. The media destroyed us in this mess, continue to ridicule us, and now once again we are front and center for all the wrong reasons.

???
I don't even understand why you think that's a question? I think that unequivocally falls under the category of caring more about how. Let's follow your hypothetical to the conclusion: are you telling me that you actually believe that firing a guy over a two-win differential wouldn't be a decision made all about style?

That (hypothetical) two win differential works out to about a 7 or 8 win differential over the season, so that's a bit more than style, no? Last year 7 wins would have been the difference between the 4 seed and finishing 10th in the Western Conference.

I don't stipulate that it would translate into that many more wins over the course of a season, even in your hypothetical.

It could be that, and some. And by "and some", I'm talking about Vivek's ego. Might have been that Malone not only went the opposite direction from what Vivek thought was best, but that he want the opposite direction and it was working, possibly hurting Vivek's ego and the message he keeps trumping behind closed doors.

When you're constantly surrounded by "yes men" and are used to people falling in line, rallying behind your point of view and someone pushes back and does it a different way, and has success doing it a different way, well you might feel threatened. If your ego gets in the way, you might just give that guy his walking papers before he has even more success, making you look worse.

And what do you know, Boogie is returning on Thursday, greatly increasing our chances of getting back on track. Can't let that happen under Malone's watch. Not if you keep telling everyone your way is the path to success.

I think Vivek is very inseure. Just a guess. A secure person can stand having a staff that will differ with him.

Agree with you completely. We might have a real problem with Vivek. He makes Cuban look tame, while staying hidden behind the scenes and assuming the role of puppet master. At least Cuban knows something about basketball. This might be tip of the iceberg sort of stuff. Money corrupts people... Vivek is a self made billionaire.

I agree totally.

When it comes down it, Malone was fired for insubordination.

So, I looked for them but did not see a single sign "supporting Malone" nor bashing the front office. Was a little disappointed but hey, I didn't make a sign either so who am I to criticize.

The video camera was careful to crop Vivek out of the picture when they showed Peja (who was sitting right next to Vivek) and his family) and overall Vivek and PDA never set themselves up as a target for any boos.

PDA kept his head down. He sat next to Vivek for only a few minutes - if you blinked you missed him.

There were no vocal demonstrations, but during the half court ceremony I think the community made a nice statement. Peja was thanking various people - to applause that ranged from polite to enthusiastic depending on whether it was Geoff Petrie or Coach Adelman or his teammates who he was thanking. Then he said "I also want to thank the current front office led by Vivek".... and there was a hush. One guy booed that I could hear (no VF it wasn't me!!). But the silence was a lovely contrast and the statement was made with no chants, taunts, or boos.

Vivek wasn't a participant in Peja's ceremony. They left it to Chris Granger and the president of business operations Matina K. Smartly done by the Kings.

Maybe in another section there was a demonstration - I was in 114 and didn't pick up on anything though.

Agreed. I was in the front of section 222 and there was a definite hush when he said Vivek at first, and after a pause he said "saved the team and kept them in Sacramento" (or some such) at which point there was cheering again. I definitely heard a few guys behind me calling out sarcastically about our "increased pace" in the game.
