Magic hand Spurs loss #6

4cwebb

Starter
Hedo with a decent game - 16 points, and Francis with a huge game. Duncan didn't get a double/double again (a recent trend for TD).

Who got the better of that Magic / Rockets trade again? In truth Magic turnaround probably has more to do with the participation of Grant Hill than anything else.

IMO Francis is the best player on the team.

Hill has been solid, but his effort on the boards and as a passer has been weak thus far.

Either he is scoring, or he isn't it seems. I hope he can pick up that all around game he used to have.

Well clearly this means that the Spurs have no shot at the title, because as we all know champiosnhip teams do NOT lose to teams like that.

In other news -- a night after annihilating the Knicks, Dallas turns around and stinks up the place against Atlanta and lets the Hawks drop 113 on them.

P.S. After watching parts of both games I think its entirely possible that both Barrys are out there and available on the trade market.

Isn't Barry what the Spurs need? A guy who can simply make open shots?

They do not seem to have many of those guys.

He was susposed to be the x factor this year. But he hasn't shot well, and it looks like Pop has given up on him. May be a stylistic clash there -- much like Adelman not knowing what to do with an athlete who can't shoot, or Don Nelson not knowing what to do with a real big man, maybe Pop doesn't know what to do with a creative offensive-oriented sweet shooter type.

That was my thinking as well.

Sometimes I watch games and even their backcourt has not even taken a combined 5 shots by half time. And its not always because they are playing poorly. Some guys can go 0-10 and the coach will tell them to keep shooting. Pop will simply sub them out if they go 0-4 and are not playing perfect D.

It seems to play for Pop you must DEFEND and also be hitting your open shots. If either of those is missing to a large degree......you probably won't be playing much.

I wonder what the Spurs record would be if they had 4 spot up shooters around Duncan who can defend and just hit open shots reasonably? Maybe the same 20-6?

Hard to guess.

Barry could play the point with Bobby out. Who would interest the Spurs?
I just can't imagine the Spurs trading him to another contender. At his salary there isn't mcuh we could give them anyway -- we are really constrained by our salary situation. In some ways its perfect -- our main guns get paid all the money, and our scrubs not much of anything. But the problem is if you're trying to trade for somebody who makes any money we almost can't do it without moving one of our major pieces.

And it just keeps getting more and more interesting.

Are the fans on SpursReport proclaiming the sky to be plummeting to ground around their feet yet?

Just curious...

I go to their board every now and then and frankly VF, many, indeed, behave like the sky is falling after a loss. There are some that always say that there is still a lot of time and calm the weather. Just like here :p.

Seemslike th only team that cant loose is Pheonix... oh thats right some team did beat them on their home court!

the only teams to beat the suns were the cavs, kings and t-wolves.... thats nuts. that cavs game was sick though, james almost made a believer.... but he didnt.

everyteam in the southwest division has a losing streak right now.... spurs have 1, mavs have 1, rockets 1, grizz 1 and hornets 4..... wow, but everyteam in the pacific has a win streak.... suns 9, kings 2, lakers, clippers and warriors 1.... thats nuts!

hahah nice game mavs!!!!!

i think the magic got the better end of the deal because they got 2 starters. also look at the W/L compared to last year, it's a HUGE turnaround. houston has been just awful. t-mac is doing all he can, but van gundy is killing that offense. the magic could get home court being in the east.

now if only the lakers had lost tonight........ :D

The Magic got three starters; one of them just happens to be injured at the moment... Regardless, if Grant Hill wasn't healthy this season, it wouldn't matter if Orlando had gotten Houston's entire starting lineup for McGrady.

actually, it might have helped as long as the Magic didn't have to take the offensively inept JVG with Houston's entire starting lineup...
