Luol Deng the answer?

I really like his game, if he becomes a unrestricted fa next year....what is your thoughts on lineup below, hoping we can work out a lamar odom deal to clear space.

Beno/SS
Kmart/Cisco
Salmons
Deng/Thompson
B52 Bonger/Hawes

hes a SF not a PF. hes going to be pricey also. not sure if the kings want to drop that much on a player like him. SF is one of the positions you can find players at almost every year. SF players from 6'5-6'9 are plentiful.

The rumor is if he signs the qualifing offer and becomes a FA then Portland is going after him. They will have lots of cap room next year.

If Portland lands him to complete things...

But another slight, very slight, possibility here might be this: Deng not happy wiht the chicago money. Threatens to paly ayear and leave. With Portland looming Chicago either has to show him the money now, or trade him. So a sign and trade involving our own dear William. That of course takes the gigantic stpe of assumign a team like Chiago would want to take on Willy (for a second time even) to be the veteran mentor for their young kids.

WOW, I just looked at Portlands payroll........it made me want to throw up!......wow.....lots of room for Oden, Roy, Bayless, Aldridge.....looks like Kmart, Thompson and Hawes will have fun for YEARS playing against that FUTURE hall of fame team.

I like Deng, but I do have some problems with him. He is a SF, and he has played some guard. He's a very good midrange shooter, but he really sucks from 3 point range. It makes it more difficult to spread the floor, when your SF won't be guarded out at the 3 point line. Its also been rumored that he's looking for 12 mil a year. I don't know that to be a fact, but if it is, I would pass on him.

Now, aside from those things I mentioned, I like the rest of his game. He's a very good passer and has at times, been a decent rebounder for a SF. At around 8 or 9 mil a year, and with his youth being a factor, I would say yes, go after him. But to be honest, I'm not sure that Cisco playing the same amount of minutes wouldn't give you similar stats as Deng, and better 3 point shooting.

Ron: Hey Derrick, I want to give you something.
Derrick Rose: Cool. Is it a veteran's tip on how to handle the pressures of NBA life?
Wild Bill: No, it's a job application to circuit city. They give you a great employee's discount.
Derrick Rose:

I like Deng a lot, but he really doesn't make a whole lot of sense for us. We really should be thinking about using big cap money on bigs or a PG, not a wing player which are a dime a dozen.

I agree too. HOWEVER, scoring was a problem for the Kings last year, especially from the 3. We had no bench guys that could regularly come in and pop in 8 points in 6-8 minutes with the subs. Douby should be that guy but he is more a 2 than a 3. Kings need to come close to RonRon's stats both on offense and defense. Wouldn't it be nice if Jason can play the 4 AND the 3?? The way he runs and his really good outside shot.........hmmmmmmmm

I don't see why he can't........I mean of coarse theres the fact that he would get beat by some SF out there. But still I think he could play the 3 spot pretty well.

I guess on occasion he can handle the ball out on the perimeter, but I don't see him doing it for any consistent period of time. He doesn't have the range for a 3 or the lateral quicks to keep up defensively.

Well, he probably could shoot the 3 as well as Deng can. I do think that some of the quicker 3's in the league could give him problems on defense. Of course the reverse is probably true at the other end of the floor.

Yeah, Portland has really stocked themselves for the future. Wow! Their GM knows how to get it done. LOL
