Lets give Ron Artest the benefit of the doubt here..

Do you guys think he posesses an ounce of self-control? Honestly? He seems like a decent guy but I think he has severe issues... way beyond basketball. I pray I'm wrong.

Piksi you want people like Artest to spit in your face so you can have something to justify yourself with. It secretly delights you that things has gone this way. You're the guy who says: "Those stinking bastards!" And you love it. Admit it.

whatever

I have heard so many people say that he is a good guy in the locker room and a very likeable guy. I would hope that he has been learning how to assert some degree of self control. If he has then the Kings will gotten the better part of this deal for sure.

In a word...no. He has almost a 20 year history proving otherwise. But I am going to be praying really hard that he proves me wrong.

All I'm saying is I'm worried, very worried... then again what do we have to lose?

At this point, in reality, absolutely nothing. If Peja would've netted a guy like Loul Deng, I'm sure Petrie would've made that deal one month ago. And it's not as if Garcia is better than Peja, or a better fit than Peja, but at this point, with the way this team is performing prior to the trade, the Kings were better served struggling through with Garcia and Martin as the starting SG and SF to see if those guys can be legitimate NBA starters.

Now, however, the entire dynamic has changed. Once Bonzi and Reef get back, there will be three players that have a much different skill set than players on Kings' teams past on the offensive end. Rick may need to do some shuffling around, worry less about three point spot ups and more about iso post ups for those three players (starting it all with the Bibby / Miller high pick and roll). And Artest is another step towards being a competitive defensive team. At least one perimeter player will have to fight much harder to get to the painted area for easy layups.

I cannot give Artest "the benefit of the doubt" because in all honesty at this point I have MANY.. however, that being said he is now a King and as so I will support him and truly hope he contributes to this team and inspires some sort of improvement, lord knows we can use it. Hope he is on his best behavior.

Sacramento has always been a place about second chances: Chris Webber, Vernon Maxwell, Jimmy Jackson and Bonzi Wells...to name a few. It's naive to say that this WILL be the turning point in Artest's career...but until he shows us otherwise (on the court), lets give him a chance to succeed.

Remember that when Webber was traded to the Kings, he was very upset and only reported to the team when his father lectured him. True, Webber didn't have the extensive baggage that Artest does. It's up to us how much we let the past bother us. I believe in looking forward. Sometimes in what appears to be the darkest times, a light can appear. Lets hold off on judging Ron Artest..."judge not lest ye be judged"

And, given the way our team has played this season, I don't think we have anything to lose.

GO KINGS!

Ron Artest has had second chances, third chances, and now another chance. He is a CANCER. And he will show his true colors as a prima donna cry baby, just give him time. Ron Artest will be the iceberg that sinks this team. Mark my words!!!

The microscope will definately be on him more than anyone that has ever put on a Kings' uniform. However, as a fan base, I believe that we have to be able to judge him from here on out rather than what he has already done. I completely understand that his past record indicates that he may become a problem child here in Sac, but until that happens we shouldn't hold anything against him. We have to be able to judge him for his actions here in Sac...if we don't then we will be just like almost every other fan base and that we are not. Another thing...I hope that the fans don't hold his agent's statements against him because I truly don't believe those were HIS thoughts (see the article posted above by nbrans).

Prepare for some mean Artest debates guys. They get ugly.
Likewise, prepare for some "Peja is soft" debates. They get intense. Also, he gets to see his favorite player in the league, Tayshaun four times a year now if he stays with the Pacers. That will be fun.

Oh well, if Tay is owning him, we can play Granger against him. I've been wanting to see how Danny plays Prince for a long time now.

No he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from me. That phrase means that you don't know something for sure about a person, so you will not hold something against a person that you don't really know. Artest got the benefit of the the doubt from Indiana after messing up in Chicago.

We know without a single doubt what Artest has done. I will allow him time to to show me he will change. I accept he's a King and I will support him as long as he supports this team with good behavior on and off the court. However, he has a long, long way to go to earn any trust or respect from me. And I have never, ever felt that way about any player that has come to the Kings previously.

Very well put. I am right there with you....

Newsflash, this team has already sunk. What do they have to lose?

He's played more games than he has missed. Peja has played more, but shown up less.

i will.

i'm still not thrilled with the deal, but i'm sure once a few games have passed, i'll have warmed up to him.

he's getting a fresh start, i things will work out for the best

Self respect, character, strong fan-base, etc

I hope that Artest overcomes his demons and is more of a help than hinderance, but if not, we stand to lose what we have left of all of these.

How much self respect and character did this Kings' team have dragging the bottom of the pacific division anyway?

At worst, Artest flips out and gets suspended after ten or so games. No biggie. The kids need the time anyway, and prior to this trade, the Kings weren't vastly improving, so a lottery pick seemed inevitable. So if Artest only plays ten games and the Kings end up in the lottery, the result is not too different from that projected had the trade not been made, at least imho.

No kidding. The Kings have already demonstrated this season that they are a better team if Peja isn't in the building.

I'm not too worried about the character and self respect of Brian Skinner and the rest of his bench warming compadres. I'm more worried about the fact that other than Bibby, this team currently sucks and is headed for the lottery. It's sad that we have to rely on an unstable Artest and Bonzi's soft groin just for the Kings to make the playoffs. But that's the reality.

For what it's worth, my take is just a little different.

Ron Artest arrived at the door with a lot of excess baggage. We all know what's in those bags. They don't need to go everywhere with him, however, now that he's here.

In my mind, Ron can take all those bags and lock them in a room somewhere. As long as he doesn't bring them out, I'm willing to leave them out of the conversation. If, however, he opens that door then all bets are off.

I do not want him to fail, although my earlier more emotional and irrational posts may have made it seem otherwise.

Artest is now a member of the Sacramento Kings. I fully expect him to live up to his part of the bargain. As long as he does, I will live up to my part as a homer fan of the team whose uniform he now wears.

I'm not forgetting about everything that has happened but I'm not going to continue to bring it up. Right now, it's totally immaterial to how I look at him as a King. I hope and pray for all our sakes that it stays that way.

GO KINGS!!!

There is a school of thought out there that suggests a little craziness on a soft squad could spark some toughness...

I think the track records of Rick Adelman getting production from "bad apples" and Geoff Petrie finding the right person at the right time speak volumes. Unfortunately, some people have pressed the mute button.

Peja has been more of a liability than an asset this season, and a change was needed. Well, I think we should just roll with it and see where this ride goes... It couldn't get any worse, last place in the Pacific Division is pretty much "rock bottom" in my book...

Pacers' fan here. I am sorry to intrude on your board, but I thought that I should chime in to let you know what I think about Ron Ron. Rodman was a little crazy. Ron Ron is a whole lot of crazy. He may work out in Sac. In fact, I think that it may be the right place for him. But don't think that your loyal fans are the answer. We gave him a standing ovation at the first game of the year. We all made fools of ourselves defending him to our friends and coworkers. However, I will say this; your days of poor effort by your team are over. Ron only has one speed, and he forces his teammates to play at that pace. Kobe will not tourch you for a lot of points. You may get frustrated at him on the offensive end in terms of shot selection, but you will never question his effort. He seems to care as much as the people sitting in the stands, and that is saying alot in the modern NBA. For this I will miss Ron. Also, with Ron idiot Laker fans can no longer call you the Queens.

THE QUEENS ARE DEAD! LONG LIVE THE KINGS!

My sentiments are similar to VF's...

I would also say that French is right. Pacersland has great fans and community support. We will be kidding ourselves if we think our fan support will win him over. He already had all that in Indiana. Indiana and Sacramento are very similar franchises. Main difference I see is in coaching style which I hope will be the difference that straightens out Ron.

I have slept on it and reality has begun to sink in at last. Ron Artest is a Sacramento King with all the rights and privileges therein. Maybe he can help bring back the excitement that has been missing for some. I know that he will provide help on the court in many ways. Hopefully, this will really be a new beginning for him. BOTTOM LINE: GO KINGS - ALL OF THEM.

I'm going to be interested in what Charles Barkley has to say tonight during the Suns/Heat game, not that I put much stock into anything he says, but it might be entertaining. I just feel that with the Artest trade, the Kings are contenders - a team to get excited about again. I'm not a "player" fan - I'm a "team" fan.
