Las Vegas Summer League 2017

Got my tickets, I think this year is a must if you have been thinking about attending, our team is absolutely stacked.

If im not mistaken its usually the second weekend that the bigger names start sitting out right? or does that happen the first weekend as well?

If I recall correctly, there isn't usually much drop off (injury aside) from the end of the first weekend to the second weekend. Often the most experienced guys (say this year a WCS type with two years in the league) will only come in for one or two games. Everybody else pretty much plays it out. I would guess that our "big eight" will play throughout, with the possible exceptions of Giles getting scheduled rest and maaaaybe Buddy getting the last few games off (but I kind of doubt that latter part).
 
Yeah, I agree with the Capt. Not unusual to see a 2nd or 3rd year player, particularly a 3rd year player, only play one or two games, but the rookies usually play all the games unless they're injured, or recovering from an injury. Last year Simmons only played in the first two games if I remember correctly and then they held him out of the rest to insure against further injury.

However, it's still a whose who of basketball and you never know who you'll run into. I was standing in line at the ice cream place last year and Embiid was in line right in front of me. Tall dude, if I say so myself. Anyway, he was very nice and stood there signing autographs for quite a while. Cousins used to show up every year, usually for the 2nd or 3rd game. There's also a training facility there in Las Vegas whose name I can't recall (Cruzdude knows the name) at the moment, but it's open to the public and you never know who you might see working out there..

Once again, if you chill easily, like I do, be prepared for the Thomas & Mack center. Although the temp outside might be 110 degree's, there are times you can see your breath in the center. Especially when the crowd isn't that large. You've been warned! Have fun and I hope to see all of you there.
 
It's Impact Sports on E. Sunset at southern border of the airport, across the street from the runways. Big names will go there for private practice.
 
As I said in another thread topic. I am getting the same feeling I did in 1998. Something special is happening in Sacramento.

My wife found this t-shirt she had only worn once at that Playoff game back in the day. Mine was worn out long ago:

Is this the greatest summer league roster ever assembled? Better than the DMC summer league champs?

One of the greatest teams ever assembled, possibly in any sport. Only 1 loss all year. McCallum with the finals MVP. It was the summer that transcended sports as a whole. It's a shame we had to break them up.
 
When you sign a 36M deal, and immediately become the team's highest paid player, you better make an appearance in Vegas, if not to suit up for summer league at least participate in practice and pick-up. It is how you create goodwill and new bonds. If Bogdan was a no show I would worry he has a diva complex. I have no reason to think he does, so I expect him to be there.

Eh, Bogdanovic finished up with Fenerbahce two weeks ago and will be playing for the national team in August and September.

He'll be a 25 year old rookie with a lot of mileage on him already. I'm okay with him skipping summer league. Besides, that just opens up more time for Buddy and Malachi. I hope they tear it up and set the stage for some serious competition at the SG spot with Bogdanovic when training camp rolls around.

I am not saying he needs to play in Summer League. I am saying he needs to make an appearance there to meet and bond with many of the guys he will be spending the next three years with. Practicing with the guys doesn't seem like a lot to ask either. If I was him I would be eager to get out there and get to know my new teammates.

It's apparently been confirmed that he'll show up in Vegas and be introduced, but I don't know whether he'll practice with the team. My understanding is that Vlade can't even talk about Bogdanovic until he's signed and that can't occur until July 6th. If that's the case and the first SL game is on the 7th he definitely wouldn't be practicing with the team before then.

I have mixed feelings about that. I love that he is dedicated to the team and sure he can doe BBWB in the future, but it really IS an important program.

Still seems odd that you wouldn't play. If you play 1 game and tear it up, feel free to sit the rest, but I'd at least like to get some NBA reps just to get a sense for the competition, pace, style, etc.

I don't consider summer league NBA reps, personally. What would he prove or disprove by playing in a 'rookie' camp? He's been pretty busy and is going to play in a few weeks in another tournament.

Precisely! He will make an appearance and maybe sneak in a practice or two but he will head back to prepare for the Eurobasket with the National Team. Eurobasket is a hell of a lot more important to any basketballer than summer league. The standard of basketball is a heck of a lot higher as well and there is actually something at the end of it.

Dude lets be honest here, summer league games are not a patch on Eurobasket games and player from Europe generally would bleed for their country. On top of that, Serbia's ambitions are pretty high for Eurobasket and Bogdan's as well. He is not going to risk an injury in a glorified pick up game because some fans might have their knickers in a knot about wanting to see him play.

It's not so much about the talent level as it is about the style/pace. It's a different game over here, and I would be doing everything in my power to get up to speed as soon as possible. It's not the end of the world if he doesn't play, I'm just saying that I would personally like to start adjusting sooner rather than later. I'm glad he's at least coming out to practice with the team.
