Lakers discussion

The Lakers need another big man NOW. With both Mihm and Radmanovic injured, they have Ronny Turiaf backing up the PF and C positions, and no one else. Either a free agent or D-League. I'd probably call up Elton Brown from the D-League. He was with the Lakers during training camp, and he's had a good season in the D-League.

Wonder if they would pick up C-Webb.

Kenny Thomas

I hope he recovers quickly. Dislocated kneecap doesn't sound fun in any way, shape or form but it's a lot better than what it might have been.

Jelani McCoy is on the Lakers' D-League affiliate. If they were to call up McCoy, he would be available right away.

A pipe dream would be Jamaal Magloire, but I don't think the Lakers have the right salaries to match up in a trade. I have no idea why Jason Collins is getting playing time over Magloire in New Jersey.

Yes they would. He would be perfect in LA. I hope he has more sense than that, though. If he signs with the Lakers, there's NO WAY the Kings retire his jersey.

DON'T DO IT, CHRIS!!!
Richmond's number was retired!

Maybe it's former Kings' destiny to finish their career with the Lakers: Richmond, Divac... and Webber. :D

8 weeks for Bynum. Not much you can do to rush back from that AFAIK. Just gotta let it heal.

Bynum is a lucky kid. That easily could have been much much worse.

And BTW, Kobe is pretty fun to watch sometimes. I can say that because the Kings won tonight... :)

It's back to Kobe and the scrubs! But it was enough to beat the Sonics tonight.

He's going to miss about as many games as Shaq did in that video I posted. Shaq had ligament tears and he was sent back out to play for about 5 more minutes afterwards (!). There was also a fluid-filled lubricating capsule that popped in his knee. Malone missed 39 games with an initial misdiagnosis of the severity of his problem. Magic missed 40 for an ACL tear with the less advanced care available back in 1982. Horry missed less than 30 after a guy fell into his knee. Hard to fathom Bynum missing 30 games in light of all that and considering how minor it looked by comparison. I guess this type of injury should enter the consciousness of fans because it wasn't even on my radar as a severe injury.

44 FG for Kobe, btw.

I'm sure he'll follow the advice of the docs. Rushing it is a bad thing IMO. You lose muscle mass staying off the knee to let it heal... that lost strength better be back by the time you're back playing again or even worse things can happen.

I know this from experience.. going on my second ACL reconstruction here in a few weeks. :)

Kobe's got a few 50 pt'ers in him I think to keep the ship righted while Andrew is away.

I thought they said 4-8 weeks, not definately 8 weeks. Here's hoping it's closer to the former than the latter.

I think Phil should give Kobe a free pass to shoot as many times as he wants, its the only way we wil stay in the mix.

By the way all these kings fans being so cool about this is causing me to malfunction, part of me now wishes the kings and their fans the best. Dont worry I should be back to woring condition by the time we see each other in march.:)

I think Kobe needs to make an early commitment to scoring 50+ based primarily on what Odom's doing. You can generally tell by the 6 minute mark of the 1st how little Odom is going to be helping him that night. If LO looks disinterested that early in the game, the rest of the night is a guaranteed write-off. Flip side of that is Kobe needs to ditch that "any shot I want" crap and go for good rhythmic pullups w/ his defender backpedaling, or come off of screens.

Kobe tonight for the first time said that the lakers are championship caliber team with bynum in the line up.

Now wouldnt it be awesome if Mitch called Kobe to his office and told him that he was about to be traded to the bulls? Oh the Irony. :D Someone get Ashton Kutchers number, so I can email it to Mitch.

Webber has been talking with the Lakers!

The world is ending! Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!

You didn't include the proper preface to the quote. ;)

Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath-of-God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.

You got anything left Gargamel?

I'm scared beyond the capacity for rational thought.

Webber to the Lakers isn't as far-fetched as some people might believe. His legs may not be the same but his basketball IQ and his passing are still better than 90+% of the players in the league.

I wouldn't like to see Webb in a Lakers uniform but I could sure understand them talking to him.

I don't think it diminishes what he did with the Kings. The Kings moved on and Webber still has game left. I'm for him becoming a Laker if it means helping the Lakers.

Dude, you are SO missing the point. You cannot POSSIBLY imagine what it's like to look at this from a Kings fan point of view. To be totally blunt, what you - as a Lakers fan - think of it doesn't enter into the equation at all. This is Chris Webber we're talking about. The man who, along with Vlade Divac, Mike Bibby, Peja Stojakovic and Doug Christie, formed a team that brought the Kings out of the cellar and into the realm of acceptibility and further than we as fans ever expected to go. Sorry, but you really have NO idea what we're feeling - and I wouldn't expect you to.

Futuristic, I have to agree. We're yin and yang, us and them. Divac and Christie are beloved up there. I'll understand organic chemistry before I understand that.

You and yours, dear Gargy, have bright shiny objects in your trophy case. You have banners in Staples that say something other than Pacific Division Champions. You have memories of the GREATEST times to draw on. We - the fans of the Sacramento Kings - have none of that. The best we have are the memories of the couple of years when we were actually accorded the respect due elite teams with legitimate shots at the big show. The players who took us to those heights are revered, as well they should be. We may not have won it all, but those players took us to heights we previously had only dreamt of...

The Kings tried to make their team better by trading Webber while he was no longer himself after years of service with the Kings. Peja, they traded Artest for. Vlade, they let him walk. Jackson is no where to be found and eventually found in NO where he is a shell of himself with injuries. The point is... the Kings moved on and forced the Kings to move on. Players are now left to do what is best for them. They were no longer wanted by the Kings organization.

Webber on the other hand is no longer the player he once was. But as VF21 said, still better than a lot of big men. They don't want him back in Sacramento. He's not in their plans. The Lakers on the other hand can use somebody like Webber. He will add depth, wisdom, experience, passing ability, capability of producing points, a few rebounds, and some fouls. It is for the temporary although once Bynum comes back, Webber will only make the team deeper. Playing for the Lakers right now should look at least very tempting and he will mesh well with Jackson's triangle. I think he will help more than him being a liability.

When all is said and done, the Maloofs should still retire his jersey ala Mitch Richmond. Just like the Lakers will still retire Shaq's jersey. It's only right.

The lakers made their offer and the ball is in cwebb's court now, it's all up to him whether he wants to be a laker.
