Lakers discussion

Great article on bynum and his potential/present.
Check out the video, Bynums offensive moves are broken dow.

"If Bynum makes just marginal strides in his next two years, he could grow into a dominant player. And if, by 21, he makes the same phenomenal jump he's made this season, we could be talking about one of the top two true centers in the league next year.

"Lastly, big men almost always develop late. So imagine if Kareem, who averaged over 26 ppg at the age of 33, can school his most successful pupil on the game's deadliest offensive weapon -- the sky hook. With the skyhook, and more of the offense flowing through him in the years to come, Bynum has the potential to become a big-time scorer."

Very good article. VladetoMiller, what do you say?
LOL - I have made it clear that i am a laker fan and it will be great if the kid can be all that they are talking about. But at the same time I dont get too excited about prospects as I know how it can go. We already have one of those top picks who was supposed to be all that and he is coming of the bench.

It could be a dampier in the making after the contract year, though as I am watching more games I tend to think he is more than that for sure. He did show some good post moves against Bogut yesterday, not sure if he can repeat that against some of the better defenders, but still impressive post moves.

Really good rebounding and I am also surpised by the way refs this year are letting them battle it out in the middle and not calling those little touch fouls like last year, I think that is helping him to be more aggressive on both ends and in his block numbers.

But with reality check I take any such article with a pinch of salt, if what they say about big men developing late then probably we should give a max contract to kwame also I guess ;)

So till the end of the year i will continue to remain skeptical, it may not change after 20 different bandwagon articles :)

Wait... You're a Lakers fan?????? Holy crap. What a surprise.

:p

Whew. I thought you were going to chastise me again.

What I like about Bynum is that he is humble (so far anyways). And very coachable. He is a student of the game. Shaq was awesome for the Lakers but he was not humble, and didn't have the work ethic or the heart that Bynum has. He seems to be taking after Kobe's leadership in terms of working hard on his game. For a change, the "working class" is getting rewarded.

You're believing Phil. Problem 1. He's a jokester.

As for the no real offensive game quote, I'm either seeing things to the contrary or I'm crazier than I thought I was.
No, he showed some moves last night. I was impressed. It's still not consistent, but his touch was very much in effect last night.

Which sucks for me as a Kings fan.

I was talking to vladetomiller.

;)
Watch this, Futuristic...

Hey, VF, did you know that Kobe played with a lung problem in that last game? He was really coughing it up out there. All that and yet he's still probable for tonite against a lottery team instead of just taking the night off. Never ceases to amaze me...

I never cease to be amazed by the resilience of the brave little soldier. I was astounded when he was able to play through a groin injury as though it was nothing more than a mere fantasy and I am even more in awe of his greatness if he cannot breathe. Is there no end to the heart of this brave little soldier?

Writers need to leave that notion alone. The only guy who's even come close to mimicking that shot was Swen Nater (honest). The skyhook will never be duplicated, and if it was, someone with a thinner body like Sampson or Olajuwon would've already done it. Magic Johnson is still the last guy who shot traditional hooks. It's a skill that's gone the way of the midrange game.

Some things never cease to amaze me:rolleyes: I can only wish we had a player that had the drive and motivation that Kobe has.

You can roll your eyes all you like, AleksandarN. I've never questioned Kobe's skill or ability to influence a game. I WILL question, however, the ongoing litany of "injuries" he reports and then plays through. Some things are the stuff legends are made of; others are better suited to late night TV on the "bad movie" channel.

After he's mastered that, he will develop McHale's up-n-unders and Worthy's baseline spins. If time permits, the UTEP 2-step.

PS: God help the East if all he ever does is hone his jumphook down to Kevin Willis level.

Andrew Bynum went down. Clutching his knee. He was helped off the floor, directly to the locker room. No other information yet.

Here's hoping he's ok.

Too bad about Bynum.

But the Grizz just got robbed on the last play of the game. Paul and Stu agree. :)

Pretty hard to imagine how you decide not to blow your whistle on something like that. NBA for ya I guess.

The refs are allergic to calling fouls at the end of quarters. I've seen it countless times. I agree that Lowry was robbed, but I'm sure the Lakers will take the win anyway. ;)

True. I guess may as well foul then if you know it won't be called eh?

Stu made the good point that the excuse is given that the refs don't want to "decide the game" by blowing the whistle... however as the team that commits the foul has to decide to commit the foul in the first place AND the fouled player still has to hit the FT's the refs do far more to decide the outcome of the game by not making the call (paraphrasing what Stu said anyways).

Guess it's a consistent thing, but never have liked it.

Cursed Lakers!! :)

I didn't realize I could still almost throw up at the memory of that image. I hope Bynum is okay.
They interviewed him on the post-game. He said it doesn't hurt when they moved it around while he was seated or when he stands still, but he feels pain when stepping forward. MRI tomorrow, but he said it isn't as bad as he first thought. However, considering major knee injuries to Baylor, Wilt, Magic, Shaq, Horry, and Malone, I'm tense.

Dude, after the 360 palming vio they let Miller get away with, their eyesight itself may be to blame. Kwame = clutch. ::coughs::

When I saw the replay my first thought was Chris Webber. I've been reading this board long enough to know what happened to this franchise and to Chris afterbthat day in Dallas. Bynum sounded as if he was ok but when someone goes down apparantly on their own and they grab their knee I cringe.

He came down on Lamar's foot.

The Lakers need another big man NOW. With both Mihm and Radmanovic injured, they have Ronny Turiaf backing up the PF and C positions, and no one else. Either a free agent or D-League. I'd probably call up Elton Brown from the D-League. He was with the Lakers during training camp, and he's had a good season in the D-League.
