Lakers discussion

The lakers made their offer and the ball is in cwebb's court now, it's all up to him whether he wants to be a laker.

Any way to confirm this? I watched the Suns kick some Laker patooty and they didn't seem to think an actual offer was on the table.

Now I'm hearing that the deal isn't likely to go through and the lakers are probably going to sign Mbenga to a 10 day contract.

I just read the article and I think you're reading a little too much into it. Not that it won't happen, but at this point I don't think it's as close as some want to believe.

But time will tell...

EDIT: I just read your post above. At this point, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in any of the rumors. It's so obvious the Lakers have to do something that pretty much every single possibility is going to be in one rumor or another...

Webber most likely wants a longer deal than the Lakers are willing to commit. I still like the idea but it's most likely not going to happen because of their difference in the term of the contract Webber wants. I like Webber the most but I read that MBenga already took a physical.

Lakers' injury woes continue as Ariza breaks foot in practice

You wonder if this might intensify discussions.....

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3206516

With Andrew Bynum and Chris Mihm already out for the Lakers, L.A.'s front court took another hit. Forward Trevor Ariza, acquired from Orlando on Nov. 20, fractured a bone in his right foot during practice Sunday.

Ariza, who was averaging 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 35 games so far this season, will meet with a foot specialist to determine the extent of the injury and place a timetable for his return to the Lakers' lineup.

The Lakers expect Kwame Brown to play more minutes in Ariza's absence, including in Monday night's game against the Denver Nuggets.

"It's not about his one-on-one defense. It's his team defense that [Denver's Marcus] Camby's renowned for," Lakers coach Phil Jackson told The Los Angeles Times. "We're definitely going to go in to Kwame against Camby. His size and his power against him is obviously a strength that we have."

The Lakers are currently 26-12 this season, good for the fifth-best record in the Western Conference.

More Kwame Brown? Wow. I ALMOST feel sorry for Laker fans. (And notice, I said "almost.")

I think Ariza fractured his foot by landing on Fisher's foot, not Odom's.

Also, the Lakers signed D.J. Mbenga to a 10-day contract. He'll be fine for the short-term. They're free to look at other free agents in the meantime.

The signing of MBenga might have finally closed the door on Webber to the Lakers although he did just sign a 10-day contract. Nice win by the Lakers over the Nuggets.

Nice win by the Lakers over the Nuggets.

Kobe did one of his Kidd impressions. That stuff only comes out when his teammates are cutting around. If they aren't, I hope Phil loosens up the all-pass reins, espec on the road where younger players aren't as bold as they are at home. All-pass won't work against teams that don't double him hardcore. He's going to need to put up some points against SA if we're to have a shot.

what a beautiful loss by the LA Cheaters tonight

This is why it is so easy to not like them.

You do have to give them credit because they accomplished something that scientists couldn't do for thousands of years. They stopped time.

haha seriously what was up with kobe bitchin at the refs at every possession! but what a game by LeBron

The Cavs won the game. There were questionable calls on both ends. Time to move on...

The Lakers miss Bynum, big time!!! During the Cavs game, the ABC commentators said he should be an All-Star this year if not for the injury. I don't think they are that far off. What do you guys think about that comment? (I hope I don't get a PM from VF21 for asking this quetion... :( )

Hopefully, they won't falter vs. the Knicks tonight or it would really make this thread ugly (or beautiful, depends on which side of the fence you're on).

questionable calls have nothing to to with scorers table deliberately stealing time or in this case stopping time and if it went by them they would still be playing until Lakers win the game

Why would I send you a PM about that? As I had to clean the cat box and so unfortunately didn't get to see the game (darn the luck), I don't even know which commentators covered the Cavalier victory over your team. Whether or not Bynum would have been an all-star if he hadn't been injured is simply fodder for discussion anyway and we'll never know for sure. I don't think he would have received the requisite votes from the public regardless...

Bynum was playing great ball, but he wouldn't have been an All-Star this year.

Plenty of chances lie ahead though.
