No surprise there. He's not nearly as good as his last 3 games suggest, however. In fact, he's got to have one of the lowest basketball IQ's in the NBA. He's got some physical gifts, but he's always been his own worst enemy.
I figured they would. I also figure they will match pretty much any offer, unless someone is looking to overspend, in which case we'll be out a starting PF and no reliable backup to the position.
This is what scares me. There was an article in ESPN recently about lot of teams having huge cap space next year, and not a lot of talent to bid for. Someone shall probably overbid for RFAs like JT and Donte. Both are young, and should be part of our future. Hope we don't lose them to overbidding, or we undervaluing them.
Of course, the reverse, matching a huge amount, is also risky.

Sadly, I don't think Donte is going to be part of our future. He always brings the energy and provides the highlights, but he is just too inconsistent over his career and never developed into the player we hoped he would. On the contrary, JT is finally turning into the player over the past 3 games (and even the whole season) that Petrie probably imagined when he drafted him.
Not if we adjust the roster so that Greene ends up playing at SF instead of PF. Right now there's no real backup at the PF position, if we are to assume that Hayes is a C. If not, then our backup at C is Whiteside. If we keep JT and add another natural PF, then Greene would have to shift over to SF, where I think he's a more natural fit wrt to his game. The one chance Petrie has to drag Smart kicking and screaming away from small ball is to let Greene go and draft a big guy. Granted we need a SF also but there are far more big guys available.
To regain some credibility, this team is going to have to overspend at some time. JT has been steadily improving since he entered the league. As far as I'm concerned, he is a King and I don't want him elsewhere. He has no emotional issues, he is improving, he's a nice guy, he is supportive, he's tall and agile, etc. That all has value. I doubt if any other team will go nuts in the offer they make but if that's the worry, extend him now. I don't get the impression JT is going to hold up the Kings for an outrageous extension.
BTW, notice how the players who play opposite Cousins tend to do well.
Oh, I'd be surprised if Greene is extended. The one chance Petrie has to drag Smart kicking and screaming away from small ball is to let Greene go and draft a big guy. Granted we need a SF also but there are far more big guys available.

Not keeping Donte will be a big mistake. There are a lot of parallels between him and Wallace.
You know, people throw out the BBIQ thing all the time, and to be honest, I don't think most of you even know what it is.
Either way, your point stands. Petrie has to manage the roster to balance it out. I sure hope there aren't any guards drafted this year by the Kings.
He's a third big, and i;ve been saying that for years. Doubt at this point teams will think of him as much more. Kid of another Nick Collison. I could see us getting dragged up to the new, much smaller, MLE. But nobody is going to offer him more than that, and its a fair price for big #3. Problem is that right now we don't hav big #2, and if Jason is big #3 then Hayes is big #4 and $5mil is too much to pay for that role, and...
But anyway, keeping Jason should be easy and relatively painless. Teams rarely even bothering offering bids on lower level players like that because the figure the home team can just easily match.

I disagree, if we all expect Cousins to become a superstar, JT is more than fine as the starting pf. I think his post defense has improved alot this year, and he is playing under control. Also he is as hard working big as they come. I also think Chuck is fine as the 3rd big. If we can find a good shotblocking pf, fine, but JT is a solid vet now to have.
But we let the #2/defensive member of the trio get away. Whether its getting lucky in the draft and nabbing an Anthony Davis or Andre Drummond, or somehow trading that pick for a major established defensive guy around the league, the shotblocking anchor frontcourt guy is who we need now to finish the frontcourt. He's there on basically every good team.
