I am a big fan of multiple ballhandlers and creators, but let's look at the backcourt rotation.

Buddy- Gunner

TD- Gunner

Mitchell- Gunner

So you're looking at your ball-dominate franchise player, two gunners, and a 3 point specialist who thinks he's a creator. Someone was always going to get shafted. It's honestly too much and too unbalanced. Buddy in theory should work with this backcourt offensively but everyone knows why it doesn't. If we keep the Fox and Hali tandem, then we probably need 3/D guys to round out the backcourt, which Mitchell can be in like the Beverley mold if he curbs the gunner habits.

Davion I need to see more. He's just been so hit or miss with very little consistency on the offensive end. But in those 7-8 games where he's been outstanding, it looks like a glove fit because of how good he is defensively and directly covers the Fox/Hali weakness. And it's worth noting he was up to 11-24 shooting from 3 a 59% TS in 7 December games before going down, so he certainly looked like he could have been figuring it out.

If you stick with Fox, I think you use Buddy/Barnes to balance out the 3/4 spot, or invest in a mini-reset for some future assets to try and draft it. Something like:

Hali || Mitchell
Fox || TD
?? || King?
???|| Metu?
Holmes || Len

That's the problem though, Fox off of Haliburton vs. Buddy is huge. Watch the last 2 games, Buddy is taking a lot of pressure off of the pick and roll with his presence. Fox won't draw that kind of attention.
If you have Buddy between Simmons and Hali most of Buddy’s problems go away.

I'm still waiting to see that Haliburton-Mitchell backcourt before looking at other options. In a perfect world, Haliburton runs the offense while Mitchell takes the scoring pressure off of him. Mitchell isn't a good shooter, but his confidence and willingness to incorporate the 3 ball in his game gives me hope.

To be fair, I think this sort of interaction has been going on for a while now but we're only just noticing now because there are 7 less players and like 10 less coaches getting in the way of the camera thanks to COVID
James Ham said Mo was livid yesterday hence why he exploded. I think he’s gonna be on Buddy’s A** from here on out. He’s tired of his lack of focus or whatever it is

CP3's managed to lead the Suns with a USG of 20 to Book's 31. There are different ways of running an offense than just having the ball in your hand.
In fact USG% measures possessions ending with shoot, free throw and turnover. If you looks at touches Chris Paul is at 77.4 last year while Booker is at 56.2. But I agree you don’t need to be a ball hog to run an offense.

I'm not saying Buddy doesn't need somebody on his ass, because he does, but just not sure Mo has any credibility at this point with his 40/22/67 shooting stats so far this season. He's been pretty much worthless, other than a couple of games.

Buddy quit on a few defensive plays last night. In my book, quitting should be called out whenever it happens and by whomever.

Mo is seen as a big brother of the team, they highly respect him and do not want to let the guy down.

Only works if Mitchell shoots well enough to draw the defense out.

I think Mitchell can be a league average or better three point shooter. His base, gather, and form looks fine. It certainly looks better than Hali's funky, no jump, elongated release. Though it works. Or Fox's inconsistent, tap dancing, no base, no gather three point form.

Davion being an even worse free throw shooter than Fox doesn’t worry you? A 23 year old gym rat who can’t shoot much of anything yet … is it just a sign of not having touch? Is he magically going to become a passable shooter in his mid-20s despite always being bad to this point? Seems like a very red flag on his shooting potential.

Yes, even players that work hard throughout their college career can get better at shooting. I'm not worried about it.

It would be nice to know who on the Kings is actually sick vs. asymptomatic. The question also pertains to the entire NBA at this point. Anecdotally, it appears the symptoms are quite mild on a general level. Has anyone contracted pneumonia on the Kings or the NBA? Or are we dealing with cold, flu, or no symptoms?

Too early. And we've seen the potential of his shooting stroke (summer league) along with his senior season and before he went on the covid list, was 11-24 from 3 in December and 6-7 on his free throws. I think probably the bigger problem is he hasn't been drawing a ton of contact with only 30 FTA this season, rather than his % at this point.

And he's been so hit or miss with his shooting/scoring this year. Has had 7-8 games where he's just looked outstanding and clearly high-level starter upside. But the other games where he's building brick houses and a complete non-factor on offense. I'd like to see where that normalizes before making any sort of determination of what his upside is.

You see, one guy is De’Aaron Fox and the other guy isn’t.

Yeah I hope to see what Doug might get out of Hali and Fox on the floor together before using Fox as a trade chip.
It’s great seeing what Hali can do alone as a lead guard but Fox can score and might just be better suited as our SG.
Moves still need to be made, but I would think a significant upgrade can happen without parting with those two.

I mean, I get it. But you also can’t not have seen Hali the past few games sans Fox and have your mind wander.
Very true. I just think Hali needs to channel this energy and mentality into those same game when Fox is there. I could understand the difference in aggression if Fox was some super selfish chucker, but, he really isn’t that kind of player IMO. I really wanna see what Coach Christie can do with our team at least semi healthy again before we trade Fox to Philly and watch he and Embiid torch more than half of the Eastern conference :(

We’re 1-2 in these last three games and the win was against an incredibly inconsistent Spurs team that struggles to defend the one thing our team is actually good at on offense.
I get what you’re saying but it’s not like the Kings have suddenly turned into the Warriors since Fox went out.
