Kings vs. Lakers pre season game 4

The Lakers have been terrible all preseason, but these wins DO matter to the Kings. We need them. We need the players to buy in, and winning is the best way to do that.

well, got the win, but it was ugly besides the 3rd quarter. and they better bring a better game Sunday if D12 is gonna be back out there for LA

This is the first game I saw the Lakers starters try to regain control of the game. This was a moral victory IMO, make no mistake, the Lakers weren't fooling around anymore in the 3rd quarter and the Kings took the punches. Overall, good game and how this team could possibly work is starting show itself. Now, it's up to Keith Smart to have seen it so who knows if it actually meant anything in the long haul.

Few things:

IT should 100% start at PG
Cousins-Robinson-JJ should be our starting frontcourt. That trio has a real chance of being fantastic on both ends of the court.

The only question left is MT or Reke starting at the 2. MT might have a leg up after tonight's great game and Tyreke's sub-par performance

I like Cousins defending Howard more than Gasol. Will be a good test for Robinson but hey Smart, how about you try Hayes just a few times if Gasol is just handing it to the Kings? I mean the dude was brought here literally for one thing and instead he's played more offense in the post than he has played defense on the big annihilating the Kings at the time.

my biggest complaint is seeing DMC hanging out 18+feet away from the basket. they need to be going down low to him on every play

Did Tyreke have a subpar performance though? I don't think he did really. I think it's more the spacing, the outside threat, and offensive cohesion you saw from the team as a whole when this team is able to spread the floor and Cisco and Thornton provide that. Even Jimmer too. I think they should try starting Reke at the 2 and play Outlaw instead of Cisco. Take the shooting ability away for a few games, just don't ask where it went if they don't hit the same shots.

Thorntons catch and shoot ability works better with JJ and TRob in the starting lineup, and with JJ starting Thornton doesn't have to worry about gaurding the best wing. Smart has some tough decisions to make pretty soon here. We should have at least 2 pre season games with starters and rotations set so that the guys feel comfortable come Chicago.

They have been going down low to him a lot this preseason, more than normal. He's just a dynamic player, which if you really think about it, isn't a bad thing. More set shots away from the basket would be nice if he's going to shoot it though. Maybe play him off of Tryeke in the drive and dish.

DMC's post game is still very raw, he is much more effective using his quick first step on guys like Gasol. Hopefully he works on his post game this season, and next summer to be at another level in year 4. As good as he is right now, there is still so much he needs to work on/add to his game.

I just don't see anything new from Tyreke and that concerns me. His game should have grown in some manner by now. It's still very one note on the offensive end and though he has the tools to be a big difference maker on defense, the effort isn't always there. He looks best when he's not dominating and managing to do a bit of everything, but's tough to say that is what he wants to be in the NBA.

You can just tell that sometimes he gets the ball and he's going 1 on 1, and to hell with the rest of the gameplan.

His defense was maybe average tonight, for every nice defensive play he had, he got burned on another. What was most concerning for me about his offensive night, other than the 5 TO's was him forcing plays that were not there and not looking to get others involved. His scoring efficiency wasn't bad, but we should be expecting a lot more out of Tyreke, especially when he was playing against bench guys for most of his minutes.

We saw a lot of great things from the starters tonight on both ends of the court. We saw a lot of energy and effort on the defensive end and looked balanced offensively with IT running the show.

Have you been following the coaching carousel for reke. He had a great rookie year. Partially because we had no talent and he was being featured to win the 20 5 5. Second year, injured. Third year our smart coach plays him at small forward and not utilizing his strengths. If i were him, id be thinking of the next team that would utilize my strengths. If he gets stuck at small forward say goodbye. Cant believe the bull**** coaching weve seen since adelman left.

.

He played like crap the first half, but in the 4th are you referring to his forcing as Smart calling iso's for him, which he was clearly doing? He played well in the 4th too. Attacked when Smart was calling iso's or had an advantage and moved the ball when he didn't.

How come when the play is an iso for Reke he's being selfish? For all his aggressiveness in the 4th I don't remember a bad shot.

The fact is that Tyreke is an iso heavy player. This was fine in his rookie year when his teammates were sub par. But now we have a lot more talent and we don't need to be iso'ing Tyreke to run an effective offense. So essentially what would be best is for Tyreke to accept a lesser role offensively and for him to play an all around game. He is still deadly in the open floor, this is why i have compared him to Iggy in the past, while most others think of him as the ball dominant D.Rose, Westbrook, Wade mold. His future on this team is in that Iggy stopper/slasher role and if he doesn't accept that than we look for a trade.

Then he blows up somewhere else and this team will continue to suck because they let go of an elite prospect because they couldn't find a way to make him fit. Geez! You don't try to fit elite level talents around role players its the other way around. I hope he gets traded. This team had a chance to build legit squad around 2 young studs. Instead they sign a bunch of jackers and hire a coach who changes lineups and rotations like he changes his underwear. My patience with this organization is wearing thin.

Cousins went through an even worse coaching situation and has grown.

In reke's case, it's hard to argue a coach has misused a player when that player hasn't shown any use that is conducive to winning basketball. It's hard to say he's been played out of position when he's played three different positions and not been able to succeed at any of them except when he was PG and the team was tanking to give him empty stats.

I think the entire league is watching Tyreke to see if he can play winning basketball.

Put him on a team like the Spurs and see what happens. He'll be a perennial All Star.

Your problem is that you view Tyreke as an elite talent on the same level as a Rose, Westbrook, Wade. The rest of the league, especially winning basketball teams aren't looking at him as "the guy". Tyreke isn't on the same level talentwise and mentality wise as the guys mentioned above. He can be useful to a good team, if he would accept a lesser offensive role. Tyreke is a good two way player that when given the ball will produce the 20-5-5 on any given night, the problem is that him getting those stats will not produce winning basketball. IMO his future on this team or any other or any other team trying to win, is as a gaurd that focuses on defense, getting deflections, playing the passing lanes and leaking out on the break(Iggy is the best example), his future isn't as the ball dominant gaurd that you give the ball to and isolate and run pick and rolls with. If he could accept and learn to master the Iggy role he would be perfect for us. However that is a big if. He has played his whole life with the ball in his hand, and frankly the time is running out on us to either use him correctly or try and get some value for him.

It's ok. He'll get traded and the Kings will continue suck because we have morons for an organization that has no vision. Ok, lets keep on playing musical chairs with our second best player instead of finding ways to integrate an offense that heavily involves both Cousins and Evans touching the ball. Lets continue to build this team around role players. 22 wins here we come! Lets resign Keith Smart to a lifetime contract! Give Isaiah Thomas a max contract! This team is a joke.

I agree. Tyreke is a solid talent but it's obvious that his chances of reaching the elite levels are quickly fading away. It's just my opinion, but I see Tyreke's career seasons being about the same as Caron Butlers career seasons. Solid player, can be the best player on a bad team, but no where near elite. We need to find him his place or move on and get something in return for him. It sucks that Thornton can't play defense because it makes it impossible to consider Tyreke as a 6th man for this team. He has to start at SG and he has to do a better job of involving himself in the offense.

so everyone has completely given up on Tyreke after a few preseason games, in which he was mostly used out of position and not used in the proper starting lineup once yet (IT,Evans,JJ,JT,Cuz)
