The problem with this thinking is that if you take Tyreke out of the equation, this team loses. We need that scoring threat on the perimeter just as much as we need Cousins doing damage inside. I don't think it's coincidence that we tend to lose games when Tyreke is an after thought, floating on the perimeter waiting for the ball. He needs to be aggressive on offense; he doesn't play well otherwise.
I feel like this whole season has been a long experiment in trying to fit Tyreke into a role that he doesn't fit. Last year we gave Tyreke the ball and let him make plays. This year much of the time they're running the offense and when that offense doesn't go through Cousins, it's actually been less effective than just giving Tyreke the ball and letting him create. Actually, as much as I like Kyrie Irving as a player, I'm still not convinced that having a better PG is going to make this team substantially better because it will further diminish Tyreke's ability to be a playmaker.
If he were two inches shorter we wouldn't even question it. We'd call him a PG and give him the ball. His mindset on offense is not all that different than Derrick Rose or Russell Westbrook. He's not the best playmaker in the league, but he's pretty damn good. Or at least he was when we, you know, actually let him do it.
