[Game] Kings vs Jazz Game Thread 2/7/11

Forget wosses, we need to Lin out to keep pace with the Cavs. The Cavs think that Blake Griffin is available in next years draft or something. Just remember guys, it could always be worse. But when will it be better? On a brighter note, Reke looked very mobile, he looked to be in good form out there when he wasn't trying to play soccer.

My bad, I meant lins. I get them confused sometimes, lol.

You guys are being silly now with lins and wosses -- this tema is clearly very competitive anymore, and the young guys are getting stronger by the week. If you think we are going to somehow go into enough of a freefall to contend with Cavs etc. its going to be a looong wait. Might as well just settle back in and what happens happens.

If they can be competitive and still lose, that's what I want to see. Just as long as they win enough here and there so they don't get too disgusted.

So I come home and turn on the TV, and I get to see Casspi throw up that garbage? Wow....So the guy who can't create his own shot tries to shoot a three by pretty much bringing it from his side and tossing one up there. Your best player is supposed to take that shot, PERIOD! I'd rather take my chances of Reke throwing one up there I mean come on, what the hell was that...sigh. I really thought this was a more than winnable game for us, the Jazz aren't that good of a team so I figured maybe we could pull out a win. So much for that, on to the Mavs.

The voice of reason as usual. You are right, last season was too much of a headache going into Lin hoping so soon and so often. I remember being at the gym tracking a Wizards game and cheering out loud when they pulled out a miracle win. And getting frustrated when I thought the Warriors were going to lose and tie us for third worst then they pulled it out. No matter who we end up with, one player does not a playoff team make right?

This team is much more competitive, and Cousins seems like he is going to beast before long. If Blake would have had another season ending injury early on Cousins would be the leading candidate for ROY. I am excited as heck about this young team, and I hope they grow uP quickly and get us back in the hunt next year. Here's hoping for what the good guys on this board were wanting last season: more cohesiveness and growing from or team through some great victories (victories like LA and NO)

Even though Blake Griffin's pretty much got ROY sewn up, I'm sure Cousins will be getting a lot of mentions as the "could have been" ROY considering the circumstances. Having the best rookie season of anyone in your draft pretty much qualifies you as ROY even if you technically don't win because the #1 pick from the previous year sat out a whole season.

Beno get the ball and no one, absolutely no one is setting a screen. Then whole play breaks down with Casspi having to off balance a shot that never had the slightest chance. This Kings team are dumb team that's unable to execute in crunch time - ever!

What good is a screen when you have 4 guards and a SF on the floor. They will just switch it. No advantage to take unless you get a big out there.

Hmm doesn't appear to be anything serious but interesting to see coach go into Evans for a change.

Jason Jones is a bit cryptic but sounds like he was laying into Casspi as well??

No no. Just watched the postgame. Coach was completely defending Casspi.

At least Casspi was around and he actually took the blame on himself. I like it when players say "I" instead of "we". For example, Carl Landry chokes clutch FTs, Jeter chokes one, we lose. Carl: "We didn't make our free throws". No Carl, YOU didn't make your free throws.

And that's what I can't stand about Tyreke. In all his postgame quotes it's always "We didn't execute, we turned the ball over", when in all honesty it should have been "I forced up stupid shots and I turned the ball over and killed our momentum".

Question - what would happen if on the last play there was a defensive foul away from the ball? Would we just get 2 FTs or what?

Yes, 2 FT's. Fouling at the end of a game when the other team needs a 3 to tie is an option. Westphal mentioned that is why they wanted to get a quick attempt at a 3.

I tried twice to get the game on Comcast last night. Both times 721 was a blank screen. Nobody else had that problem I guess.

I hate to say this, but I agree with this. I'd rather have Beno be the PG rather than Tyreke.

You think Dally is a gifted athlete? Hell the only thing he can do is block shots. He is terrible on the offense side. Everytime he takes a shot, I cringe.

athelte =/= skilled

He's long, gets off the ground, and has good speed and fludity for such a tall player.

The problem with this thinking is that if you take Tyreke out of the equation, this team loses. We need that scoring threat on the perimeter just as much as we need Cousins doing damage inside. I don't think it's coincidence that we tend to lose games when Tyreke is an after thought, floating on the perimeter waiting for the ball. He needs to be aggressive on offense; he doesn't play well otherwise.

I feel like this whole season has been a long experiment in trying to fit Tyreke into a role that he doesn't fit. Last year we gave Tyreke the ball and let him make plays. This year much of the time they're running the offense and when that offense doesn't go through Cousins, it's actually been less effective than just giving Tyreke the ball and letting him create. Actually, as much as I like Kyrie Irving as a player, I'm still not convinced that having a better PG is going to make this team substantially better because it will further diminish Tyreke's ability to be a playmaker.

If he were two inches shorter we wouldn't even question it. We'd call him a PG and give him the ball. His mindset on offense is not all that different than Derrick Rose or Russell Westbrook. He's not the best playmaker in the league, but he's pretty damn good. Or at least he was when we, you know, actually let him do it.

I tend to agree with most of what you said. Acquiring 2 good, consistent shooter would do wonders for Tyreke and the offense in general. A large part of the problem, even after Tyreke's foot has stopped bothering him, is he has so little room to operate because of our lack of outside shooting.

I agree there are a lot of similarities in the style o fplay between Tyreke, and Rose/Westbrook. And look and the roster of both those teams. Much better shooters. Much better spacing. Rose/Westbrook have much more room to operate.
