RE: Free Throws
I said it several games ago and I'll say it again. Missed free throws are on the coaching technique and not on the player.

If a player misses a free throw in practice then the whole team run sprints. This develops tension, guilt, negativity, and remorse regarding free throws. A good free throw shooter is relaxed and smooth with a clear mind and without a thought of repercussions for a miss.

Coach Brown needs to lighten up on the punishment aspect of free throw practice and let players monitor their own performance. All of the Kings players try hard on free throws. There is no reason to work with their head when it should be clear of negative thoughts.

It started immediately with Sabonis short-pulling the first , potential point of the game. Murray and Huerter each had 0 for 2 stints to pile it on, and surprisingly Barnes had a couple 1 for 2s and even Monk. Fox's miss at the end of the gameI think was intentional...they made a tactical error by not going for a 3 with less than 30s left then. Kings had a chance to hold the Hornets to 2 pt lead, but Monk got beat inside by Hayward whom give 3 or 4" to.

I agree with questions of not playing Holmes and Len. They are the extra size that Brown is forsaking. Len has shown touch with passing on occasion and could be good for 8-10 mpg. Neither of them have the jump shot the Sabonis has, but they can help shore-up defense.

to be fair the kings are a good free throw shooting team. This was just a one off.

Nah, it’s just a way of adding a semblance of game pressure to FT’s in practice. Each player I’m sure has their routine to shoot them relaxed. Practicing no pressure FTs is great and all but a coaches responsibility is to try and mimic game situations in practice

Oubre has already disappeared back into obscurity after this one, only to save up all of his energy and effort until the next time he plays the Kings.

Mike Brown holds nothing back in his Press Conferences. He told the media exactly what happened. Terrible defense and rebounding by everyone not named Domas. The dunks and layups were ridiculous. Their back up center at us alive, just because he's big and athletic. He's not skilled.

The Queta minutes were a disaster.

Yeah Brown should have played Holmes instead of Queta there. I can see putting in Queta if we were up by 10 but the game was too close to mess around like that. For whatever reason, Metu has reverted back to his old low IQ self lately.

I'm big on Keegan but the dude plays way too soft. Rebounds like a point guard. He really needs to pick up that part of his game. I didn't expect him to be above average but he's way worse at it than I imagined.

They shot terrible from the line in the win against Cleveland. Had the Cavs not gone cold in the 4th, the Kings may have lost a close game because of the missed freebies in that as well

It might be interesting to see docking pay instituted for missed FTs to see if it actually improves %s.

yeh but I’m saying overall they are a middle of the pack free throw shooting team. (Around 79 percent) It’s not a season long problem just a few bad games. The only exception individually is KVon

I'd call it a more recent down trend and issue. Barnes is streaky, Sabonis goes through cold streaks, Fox misses big ones regularly, and Huerter has lost confidence. The only guy who feels nearly automatic is Monk

they've stumbled recently, but this was a team with some objectively poor FT shooters who made big strides in the offseason and were hitting their free throws during the long win streak.

We need to get that back.

I have no idea what Brown is actually watching then. The Queta minutes weren't a plus (which minutes for the Kings bench big are?) but his pick and roll defense was about as precise to the type of coverage that Brown is having his bigs play as you can get. Len is also in the same range in terms of ability from what we've seen. I don't know how the Kings defense coaches don't realize that size is key in playing the drop and help scheme off pick and roll that the Kings are playing. He keeps putting Lyles and Metu out there. They both get abused on switches and can't help at the rim. At least Len/Queta take up space. Brown is utilizing a space defensive scheme which is a total fail but at C the bigger you are the bigger impact you have. I would almost guarantee the ONLY plus on net defense ratings most nights are because he usually does FINALLY move to a switch scheme and Domas is best at it. This game was a little different in the sense that the Hornets really rode the roller as the first option. Most teams want that guard driving into the middle and launching pull ups.

The Holmes thing is strange. I think they told him prior to the season that they'll look for deals but once the deadline passes and he's still here, they better play him, and hopefully he buys in.

Yeah, Keegan never had the look of a great rebounder in college and clearly some of his production was certainly manufactured but his offensive rebounding is a missing piece. He's so long he can reach over guys. He should focus more on tapping balls away than rebounding. He's pretty good at that.

I have to take exception to that. Nic Richards finally got some playing time under Steve Clifford, and overall has shown a lot of improvement. His TS% is .652 and he is pulling in 12.4 rebounds per 36 minutes. I fault Coach Brown for not putting in someone like Alex Len to try to slow him down. Queta looks like he will be a good role player two seasons from now.
