If Murray is a good enough defender to be matched up on a hot Paul George at the end of a close game, then he is a good enough all around player to start. Would be silly if he doesn't for much longer
The only argument against him starting is that the 2nd lineup needs his scoring, and he'll be able to get more opportunities with the backup vs. starters

Brown won't do it, but moving Barnes to the bench at the 4 and letting him be a more the lead shot-creator makes more sense than leaving Keegan there. Right now, he's not a guy that's going to create his own shot; he's going to work off Sabonis in the DHO and launch C&S 3's. Barnes ISO ability plays better in that unit that has severely lacked that ability through 2 games.
I've been saying this for 2+ weeks and getting so much pushback for it. But it is what make sense.

The most frustrating thing about this game is that you can clearly see that the Kings would have won the Blazers game if Keegan was playing.

Yeah. I'm not throwing out an all-star career from Sabonis from 2 bad games. That's foolish, he'll figure it out and play back to his norm.

I don't think Davion-Monk-Holmes-Barnes will continue to be this bad either, especially all in the same game. But as a team, we're relying on our depth and Fox/Sabonis in order to get wins. No coincidence we're 0-2 when the bench has been this bad and Sabonis is struggling.

I think Monk will quickly lose his spot in the rotation to Davis

The only thing I don't get is the folks that agree with us but say "Brown won't do it". I don't think he'll do it tomorrow night, but I think he'll be doing it by January at the latest.

My in person take
Fox easily our best player and second best player on floor tonight. PG was spectacular
Keegan Murray was the best defensive guy on PG….he’s more physical than KZ
Domas has 4-5 guys on him every time he touches it in the paint
Holmes is bad
Monk, Davion, HB AND Domas off to a slow start….that won’t last

Clippers have like 32 full sized wing guys it seems. Defensively, they are really good. It’s encouraging and frustrating after 2 games as we look good but missing FT’s is a hell of a way to lose a game.

I'm not worried about Monk either. 2 bad games doesn't throw out 2 quality years of player growth that he's had. Once we get his role ironed out, he should be fine.

The only 2 guys who are "uh oh, something looks really off" at this point are Barnes and Holmes. Davion shot hasn't been good, but the defense is still there and he's getting that mid-range creation move locked down. Would like him to be better, but he's not "Uh oh" territory quite yet.

When I go back beyond 25 years, Peja was drafted in 96 but didn't play until J-Will's rookie year ... beyond that I don't see anyone we drafted in the 90s likely to have dropped more than 20 on their debut except maybe Brian Grant, Walt Williams or L-Train. Wonder who it was or if they just didn't want to bother going back almost 40 years. Outside chance of Tyus Edney I guess.

I always thought Keegan Murray is a starter, I don't know why they didn't start him. He's got the length to play D, he can block shot, rebound, shoot, assist, poise...I mean what more do you need? Experience? Of course. But if you're talking about experience...how is Okpala a starter? I knew nothing about him...never heard of him until today.

Oh and by the way, Malik Monk is terrible. I thought he's going to be great after having heard how good he play for the Lakers last year. But he is just terrible...he's out of control driving to the basket (lacking awareness), turning over the ball...can't shoot, doesn't do anything well. I guess he want to be a Kings so he and Fox can hang out and forget about practice and honing his game? He should not get any minutes from what I seen the last two games. There is a reason Mike Brown bench him for a stretch in the 2nd Half...he seen enough. Terrence Davis should be coming off the bench, not him. This team is still learning to play D under Brown. But I think Keegan need to start right now!

It really doesn't matter who starts but I think a good way to build is to figure out who makes the game easiest for Fox/Sabonis. That's your engine. We've seen Harkless being the defensive bandaid the last few seasons, give me the shooting/spacing/talent and figure it out later. The potential for the bench is there but Davion has struggled playing actual backup PG this year and Holmes has done nothing on either end. Although offensively he's not really getting his typical looks either. If he does and buys in bench productivity should be solved.

Yeah, mostly agreed. The problem we're having is the lead cogs off the bench have been so bad when we're built in a way where we should be crushing those minutes. Along with sub-par Sabonis performances and downright awful Barnes games with the starters.

Regardless, don't think any major changes should be made until you at least get some sort of a sample on what's going on. After 2 games, where we mostly just beat ourselves out of being 2-0, I think just assuming guys start performing to expectation is the better route than drastically overhauling the off-season plan.

I agree that a larger sample size is needed and I also think Brown is still doing some game time assessments with the bench and some will see expanded minutes while others will be cut dramatically in short order.

Miami could really use Harrison Barnes just saying.....Not sure pairing Monk/Mitchell two low IQ players on offense is a great idea either.
