It's sad that Brad Miller, Bonzi Wells, Kenny Thomas and Mo Evans were the newest Kings alumni worth bringing in(certainly a few guys missing like Kevin Martin, Ron Artest, Shareef) but after that team the franchise has been filled with mediocrity. Guys like Donte Greene, John Salmons, Spencer Hawes etc will just be remembered as relics of extremely dark times for this franchise.

The only redeemable alums from the last 8-10 years are Francisco Garcia, Jason Thompson, Beno Udrih, Isaiah Thomas, Tyreke Evans and thats about it. From near a decade of teams those are the only guys I would be happy to see in a reunion type event like Saturdays match.
I don't really think that's why there was a cutoff though. I wasn't clear on the exact reasons other than maybe all the newer guys still having careers and playing somewhere in the world at the moment so couldn't make it, and of course Shareef got forced out of the front office here only last year. But plenty of the older guys coming in were completely irrelevant as players. Several of them were even unpopular. Darrick Martin? Greg "quite a bit heavier than a" Kite? Donte and Salmons etc. could have showed up with no shame at all. Thought Cisco might come back, guess not.

It was a great night at the old arena. I thought it was interesting that Cousins fouled out on a very close blocking foul and was very composed when he left the floor. The affect of having all of those former players present did the trick. He is capable of acting like an adult. It might help to have someone like Moses Malone on the coaching staff to get in his face and tell him when to shut up.

That is not how Cuz works. Getting in the face of a personality like Cuz only makes things worse.

A friendly voice with a little sense of humor would likely fare better.

Or a coach who isn't afraid to light up the team but say we aren't defending hard enough instead of saying you guys aren't defending hard enough.....I've seen it work with Cuz....I'm going to subliminally insert Malone in this response.

Well if you are scared to tell Cousins how it is then it's just going to be a problem from the get go
Not necessarily.

There's a difference between "telling somebody how it is" and attempting to establish dominance over them because you are either a bully or an insecure little crap.

Human communication requires a read for who you are talking to. Some people are like dogs and respond well to being ordered about and chain of commanded. Some people are exactly the opposite and inherently rebel against authority and attempts to pressure them. Cuz is one of those.

Not playing the bully and trying to dominate somebody like that isn't giving up on the message, its about delivering the message in a manner where it will be accepted. You have to know your animal.

This was maybe Phil Jackson's best quality as a head coach. He knew how to motivate his players. Some needed to be challenged. Some needed to be prodded and needled. Some needed to have their confidence built up. Some worked best when they were yelled at.

10% of communication is what you say and 90% is how you say it. You don't have to change your message, you just have to be cognizant of how you deliver it to maximize the effectiveness it has on your particular audience.

I almost guarantee that Cousins would not have a problem with ANY coach that was fair, unbiased, and consistent in his (or her) discipline and punishments while working to meet the goal of winning (not self-aggrandizement or ego-boosting).

He was fine with Calipari and fine with Malone, who are known as harsh but fair.

It's the coaches who are unfair/biased ego-maniacs who come from a place of authoritarians who require obedience (instead of we're all working together for the betterment of the team) that Demarcus will not abide.
