Yep, folks. This one will be televised live on NBA-TV as the Kings try to get past the Bulls in the Summer League tournament quarter-finals.

Acy is an animal. He'll do stuff like that in practice scrimmages. Gotta respect a guy who brings it 24/7
He's been very impressive, that's for sure. The shooting has been really fun to watch. 3-5 from 3pt land and 14-15 from the FT line in summer league. Obviously time will tell if the shooting stroke is legit or not, but it's still a great tool to see him show, even if it's such a limited sample.

Stroke looks way more fluid and quicker as well he's not thinking about it and he's wiped off like 0.5 secs of the whined up which makes a massive difference. Honestly if he can develop that he's a 10 year + player with that energy and hustle at the end of a bench and he seems like the guy other fans HATE but everyone in your organisation loves.

I like Quincy Acy very much attitude wise. I thought he was one of the handful of guys I considered logical keepers after last year. End of bencher, right approach, friend of Cousins, all good.

But, BUT...I felt last year and still do feel that he is empty, well, non-stats. His +/- stats last year were absolutely terrible. His rebounding was terrible (because he is a SF playing backup C). His defense was actually bad. The lack of offense wasn't the problem. He was largely ineffective at the very things that he tricks you into thinking he does, because he occasionally does them with enthusiastic style that you remember more than a more restrained but more productive guy. Now he's had a solid summer league, but I think as big men go, he would be a guy who could look better in summer league. In SL there's less size, no Cousins running around. As a 5th "big"? Sure thing. Once he's in the rotation though...we lost last year precisely because we had too many minutes to undersized undertalented types like Quincy Acy. Let alone as a backup center. That may all sound harsh to a would be cult hero. But its also the truth. Last year his net production was -10.5. That was lower than Landry, Gray, Ben, Hayes, Salmons...very lowest on the whole team. His on/off was a -5.2, and only Gray and Vasquez (barely) were that bad (note as all on/off stats, coming in for Cousins can do that). Anyway, I like Acy for what he is. He represents some of the true culture change. As does Reggie. Get me some tough little thug guys. But I urge people to not get too carried away with it until he proves he can actually help us win during the regular season. Last year he most certainly did not. He's 6'7" and not especially long, he's not a center. He's got no ball skills, he's not a SF. He's PF # 5.

At the NBA combine, Acy measured out with a 7'2.75 wingspan. Compare that to an extremely long guy in our Eric Moreland, who has a 7'3.5 wingspan. Quincy has very long arms. Gets off the floor quickly as well....length is not an issue for him

I think the message given to Acy from the coaching staff was to work on expanding his range. He's an energy/hustle guy but not a great defender or rebounder so another way to increase his value is to become more of a stretch 4.

Of course if the Kings wanted a stretch four they could have had a nice one in Adriean Payne. I think he can be a Robert Horry type player. I'd still prefer a Tyson Chandler type next to Cuz as a starter but Payne would make a really nice third big in that rotation. Evolved into a really nice shooter but unlike most stretch fours he's long, athletic and attacks the basket too. Decent rebounder, has a solid back to the basket game and plays with some fire.

An ideal bench big if you can land that Larry Sanders/Marcus Camby/Tyson Chandler athletic center to pair with Cuz.

There were a lot of guys in the middle to end of the first round that I wished the Kings had another 1st rounder to pick up.

I like Acy but he's a smaller Mikki Moore right now. If he can develop a consistent shot he may have a place in the league but he literally does nothing other than give you the ocassional highlight dunk or rare block. Your backup pf who is all abiut hustle should not be struggling to get 3 rebounds a game.

Hah.. Its true though.

I remember being kind of annoyed when people would rave about Landry (in his first tour with us, now everyone seems unanimously against the signing) and his "hustle". ...Landry hustled to score and that was it. And yet, people had this weird idea that he also played defense and rebounded.

Of course, unlike Acy, you could actually count on Landry to get you 15ppg with enough touches.

Acy is playing like a guy who's option has no been picked up. A guy looking for a contract in case it doesn't and a guy in a contract year if the option does get picked up.

People forget that Acy is only 23 yrs old, he still has tons of time to grow. I think playing with Reggie Evans will teach him a lot this year assuming they both stay.
I tend to agree with this. He's young and hasn't had much experience. Especially being on losing teams like Toronto and now Sacramento. Reggie is a guy that can teach him how to do the small things. Honestly, that's how Reggie has lasted so long in the league - rebound, box out, provide energy, hustle, play smart.

I guess the question regarding Acy is, does anyone actually have the patience and playing time to develop his game? With our excessive collection of PFs, I don't think his opportunity is here.

Playing Devil's Advocate here,
how do we know he wouldn't?
FWIW:

Career Per 36 minutes
Landry 17.3
Acy 8.7

Career Per 100 possessions
Landry 24.9
Acy 12.4

Cites: Landry's B-R.com page, Acy's B-R.com page.

Now, don't get me wrong, all things being equal, I'd rather have Acy; I'm sure Carl Landry is a nice young man, but I don't like any part of his game, on any level. But as far as scoring is concerned, Landry and Acy are not the same species; Acy can't even see Landry from where he's standing.

No McDizzle means that we have a chance to win this game. I thought Chicago was by far the best team in Vegas, but they've lost a big piece of their scoring punch. Snell is going to go for 30.
