Kings v. Blazers, VSL

My First Half Impressions :

Douby - Personally I think he looks good, some people have been saying he's shooting to much but i see him out there making plays. he's doing a better job setting players up then ive ever seen from him and defensively he's pressuring the ball quite well, bayless is scoring but most of its from the line where he's getting a rediculous amount of calls. I'm not ready to call douby a bust yet.

Hawes - Just not playing well tonight, I feel like he thinks he should be dominating and he's not so he's forcing alot.

Shelden Williams - I actually like what he's bringing to the table, he's rebounding the ball very well and blocking some shots , Looks like the banger we could use... most of his offense is coming from putbacks but at least he's staying around the hoop for the most part.

Singletary - I missed the first summer league game so i didnt get to see this kid play but boy is it fun to watch a guy like that on the kings .. lightning quick with very good defense.. love the pressure he put on that led to a douby steal and easy dunk .. he's showing some 3pt range aswell. reminds me of a smaller rondo with a better shot ..

Thompson - I think he's playing alright. Nothing to special here.. some good moves that looked like they would have been bad shots if they hadnt gone in .. however his athletisism is something to be happy about .. the way he moves at his size is incredible. Dont get me wrong i like what i see but i think shelden has been our best big tonight, its only half time though.

Ewing Jr. - ?? barely played but didnt make the most of him minutes anyways .. i hope he gets more time.

Jerryd Bayless - Obviously an offensive force in this game .. the refs are treating him like lebron though .. its interesting to watch a player we would have almost certainly drafted if he fell 1 more spot, my only gripe is we would have drafted him as a point guard and he does not have 1 assist in his 3 halfs of summer league play

well thats just my 2 cents so far ... i'll post some other impressions after the game.

Snapper just said that Shelden is basically only good for putbacks.

"If you ask him to do more than that, he struggles."

Ouch.

Singletary is impressive!

I see nothing wrong with that comment. The problem with Sheldon is that he doesn't seem to realize that.

Douby's looking better this quarter. Slashing and making some plays on both offense and defense.

I think Douby is realizing he's most effective when completely in "I must score" mode.

Considering his decision-making and ballhandling woes, that's a good mentality. Whether he will be efficient enough in that capacity, a la Bjax, remains to be seen.

They're broadcasting this @%^$& game in Uruguay and I can't get it in San Francisco.

Thank you, AT&T!!!

Man, I wish more people with the KINGS would read our theories on Douby. There's no way in HELL he should be playing at the 1 on a regular basis.

I don't see Douby being half the player Bjax was.

Thompson is looking a little more comfortable this game. Some nice offensive and defensive plays.

There's no drop-off in Singletary's game... looks totally in control with the ball in his hands.

Shelden looks slow, tubby, and unskilled.

Douby is having some success with his strategy of relentless attack... not sure that will translate into real games but it's probably his only shot at having an NBA career.

Ewing has played 14 minutes and I don't remember seeing him on the court. Oh wait... he does have 5 fouls.

McCalebb had a couple nice plays.

Spencer hasn't done much but is clearly one of the best players here.

Why'd they take 2 points away from us? I can't believe how incompetent the scorers can be.....this is NBA summer league, not middle school.

I love what I'm seeing from Thompson and Singletary, not always in the results, but the tools they're showing.

I don't know if we'd have taken Bayless if he'd "fallen" to us, but I'm glad things turned out how they did. He's a more talented version of Douby. Let another team have the headache of trying to convert him into a PG for the next several years; I'll take the JT/SS combo.

I don't care what kind of numbers Shelden or Douby put up. We know what they can do against weak competition, and we know their limitations. They're just taking up space and touches.

Yeah, I agree with NME. Bayless looks good now, but he's basically a better version of Jarrett Jack. Not much of a point guard. It's going to put a lot of pressure on Brandon Roy to be a playmaker.

Shelden just looked horrible trying to score. He's just got zero athleticism unless you count strength.

Man, Hawes looks really terrible out there on both offense and defense. His head's not in this one.

Yeah, totally lost and nothing's working.

Thompson's already 6'11" 250, and he still looks kind of like an underdeveloped kid. I think he can take a lot more muscle on that frame very easily, and if he maintains his mobility, look out.
